- I wanted to take a break from wrenching in the garage. Figured it was time for Dani to drive stick shift again. Not just and stick shift... 3 on the tree! Her first time rowing gears on the column and she did pretty good. Maybe next time she'll take it on the street.

My Dad taught me in his 70 Datsun Kingcab pickup. He stopped at 7-11 to get a 6 pack of "courage". Only had a mild case of whiplash from the 1st 50 clutch dump/stalls.
Love and miss you, Pop!!
@@vwbyoy88 my friends dad gave him a beer before teaching him to drive. People really didn't care about DWIs back then. More than once in the 80s a cop made me pour out my beer then let my drunk ass drive away. You really had to be black out drunk to get a DWI back then.
When we were kids, the family car was a ‘59 Biscayne 6 banger with three on the tree. Now my daily driver is a ‘58 Delray 6 banger three on the tree overdrive. I absolutely have to have that third pedal,
Danni I love your boots! I grew up on a farm everything was manual I was about 4 or 5 sitting between mom & dad in a 49 Ford shifting the gears not much later the Ford tractor, at 16 a 4&3 transmission with 2 speed axle straight truck my dad & uncle built to haul corn. It was a beast! Life was good
Dani did great, and Dan should have been a driving instructor. Nice work you two. An amazing afternoon with DD Speed Shop. Cheers!! 😎
My Dad taught me that on a three on the tree, “back and up” is for “backing up”. It’s been 40 years and I still remember that.
This reminds me how much I don't miss the old manual transmissions. Drove enough of them over the years. Could drive them just fine but I don't miss them one bit.
I taught my wife with 3 kids in the car too . Lot of laughter. One guy pulled up beside us and asked if we needed help😢I told him she was learning, he said I understand 😅😅😅
You did great Dani keep practicing you will have no problems I learned to drive on my dad's 62 galaxy 500
I learned to drive a three on the tree at around age 10, in my dads 1963 Rambler station wagon. As best as I can remember, I did very well. I have always preferred manual transmissions, and still do, even though I have some serious knee problems, and using the clutch for more than just a short time can be painful. Out of the five cars I currently have, three have manual transmissions, though they all have floor shifters. Two five speeds and one four speed. I have also been riding motorcycles almost my entire life, starting with a small dirt bike at age 8.
Daniels arm through the steering wheel is priceless ❤
Surprised it didn't get stuck.
My first car was a 68 Biscayne, 3 on tree. My pap taught me how to drive it!!! He was really hard on me but I did it!!
she did great we need to see her drive the black nomad now. thank you for sharing GOD bless you guys.
Good job Dani, thats not an easy thing to do when being nervous and having RUclips watchers.
I taught my buddies wife how to drive manual in my '83 s-10 5 speed. It took her a while but she got it.
My dad taught me how to drive a manual on his brand new 1969 C-10, 350 V- 8 with the granny low 4 speed. I was 9. We were at our cabin outside of Bailey Colorado. I was driving down the loooong driveway shifting gears as instructed. As I got to the bottom of the driveway near the 90 degree turn to the right, I downshifted just as instructed. At the corner, he said "now turn hard right". He seemed to forget that truck had no power steering and I was 9. Hit the tree at the bottom of the driveway in that brand new truck.
great driving Daniel. Fun video to watch.
Reminds me of when my pops tried to teach men, he got fed up. Turns out my mom was a better teacher... The story went, my dad also tried to teach my mom, he got fed up then too. So my mom taught herself on the drives to the store.
Bravo Dani! And Dan, too! Wonderfully entertaining vid, and informative as well. Dani really did very well...she should drive it more and practice. Sometime this summer I'm going to (try) teach my honey to drive a standard on our 1990 Samurai 4x4 5spd. Dan's instructions to Dani were a great primer...wish me luck lol
My daughter's ist manual Subaru an empty parking lot half an hour of circles starts and stops. She wants a manual in everything now.
That went very good!
Three on the tree is the hardest manual to learn on. Dani, you actually did quite well. Before long you'll be stopping, starting and shifting without even thinking. Dan, you're also a good patient teacher.
This thumbnail pic should be on a shirt!!😂😂
Well done Dani 👍❤️
So what I learned, from this video, is just how much Dan REALLY, REALLY hates doing bodywork, on the Camaro.
I've been driving sticks my whole life, but I've got to say I never cared for three on the tree much. Lol!
Yesssss
She did damn fine fir her first 3 speed Saginaw column shift driving experience you rock Danny let the clutch out slowly no Gass once u hear tge engine stsrt to idle down stop letting out on clutch then give it a lil gas an gently ease up a tiny bit on clutch as ur starting to give it more gas hold on cloth till car is rolling pretty good an then ket rest of wsy out on clutch but do it slowly onve it all wsy out u can give it as muvh gas as u want I bought my wife a new chevette 4 cylinder 4 speed transmission took her to our local state park which is a lake pulked car diwn to boat launching ramp left it semi u turned almost headed back up hill but not quite I never mentioned to her I keft car and steering wheel in a location in relation to the water tgat if she had stalled it an panicked on me an car started to roll it would roll bk an firth till it stopped on its own I left it where it was not facing straight down hill toward water but not up hill to where if it rolled backwards it would roll in water it would seesaw fiwsrd an back an firth till it came to a stopwatch ger thinking if she did panic it was definitely going in the water I gave her instructions one time an then ssid it's all yours dive us or drown us either way this is yiur first and last brand new car if u sink it she actually did perfect no bucking the clutch I was extremely shocked an happy
Danny did a gell of a good job it being a 55 slack in shifter the clutch from whst I seen if it was new was catching wsy too high Dan
Words of encouragement : "Janky and ...now the only thing is" 🤔
Did Danny ever learn how to put in 3rd gear ???
If anyone is wondering about all the bollards (posts) in the parking lot, they have have outlets to allow Winnipeggers to plug their engine block heaters in, so they can start their car on those very cold -40 degree winter days.
I'm from Texas, that is foreign to me. Thanks
you go Danni... Learn 3 on the tree and you can drive anything.... That was my first manual way back...
I taught my daughter on old country roads, made her stop on 40% hills and start, she didn’t like me for a week or so, but he can still drive a stick!
been too frisco a few times, nothing like parking in between 2 parked cars on a 40% facing up hill! the true test of any seasond manual driver!
only way to learn
If you can play video games with coordination you can drive a manual and once you learn it never goes away
How can A Person with purple hair possibly be unhappy 😢?🤔
I want purple when in school I dyed my bangs blue they wanted to through me out I was the first to were a Maxie same then I wore hot pants 5 other girls they did nothing to them but me my mother had to bring me clothes to change 😂😅❤ I like how you grew them your self 😂
My Dad taught my Mom how to drive a 3 on the tree in their '56 Ford Fairlane. Years later, my Mom taught me how to drive a 3 on the tree in my newly purchased '62 Ford Falcon, which also had a non-synchro first gear. She taught me how to double clutch, throw a quick rev in while the clutch was engaged, and drop it into first while moving without scratching a tooth.
I always taught clutch friction point by having the driver learn how to ride out the clutch at only idle, no gas and not stall it. Once that’s mastered the rest comes quick at least that’s how it always was for me in the drinker seat.
exactly how i teach anyone how it drive a stick shift. learn to work the friction point first so there is no rodeo starts.
Once you get past the fear it's not hard and it is fun also I like the four on the floor better
Danielle keep practicing the more you practice the better you'll get at it before you know it you'll be driving it on the road
Nicely done Dani. Can't wait for round 2 when Dan comes home with a Kenworth 😁
Teaching my girlfriend stick in “OUR” rare 55 Nomad….lol
DANNI YOU DID GREAT. Dan you are a great instructor. Dated my wife for 4 years after college, living in our respective parents' homes. Just celebrated 40 years of marriage. I told her she could have killed me and been out by now. Joke. You are an inspiration to people everywhere on being calm. I think your vitamin Mur helps you. Love your channel. I watch some episodes a few times. Was born in 1957, so love TriPods. Also Chevelles , Novas and Pontiacs. Keep up the great work. I learned on a 1949 Ford farm truck with a 4 speed and dual speed axle. Also drove a 1969 Chevy work truck with a three on the tree. Danielle, you will be driving like an ace soon. Laugh and love.
Regards,
Marc P.S. You crack me up.
Priceless ! And again, you two work great together
When She switched her glasses it was like when Stallone turned his hat around in over the top.
In first gear, put your palm on the gear shift facing the dash. When you go to second, push up and toward the dash. Do the same thing to get to third.
that works if the shifter is adjusted correctly. if not the shifter will come out of first and hangup and the trans will still be in first gear.
another interesting afternoon with DD speed shop well done Dani
I taught my daughter how to drive a stick shift. She became a race car driver. And totalled the car in a rain storm.
Good job Dani... you'll get the hang of it the more you do it...props for learning on 3 on the tree!
Hence as ive said before buy her a cheap manual 4 cylinder vehicle so she can learn in a less powerful vehicle, make he drive it until she is proficient.
good idea.
Put Dani behind a 100lb clutch starting on a steep uphill incline. 😊
It’s something you will never forget! Teaching a family member to drive a stick! Lol
I think Dannie did great for the first time. A few more visits to the parking lot and she’ll be taking off in the new-mad!
Dani nailed it.
Dan whants a four speed in the 70 thats what this vejio is saying
Good job Dani ! We all had to start where you're at. Practice, and then more practice. You'll get there, no need to stress.
Darlin you did just fine. Way better than many. 😉
Your doing a great job Danielle way to go girl and Dan has great patience teaching you
Dani you did a great job learning to drive 3 on the tree
Got to learn sometime, it is not as hard as you think it is, you can do it😊
Dannie is a smart gal. I'm sure she'll do just fine. And Dan, you did a great job of teaching. Must get that from Mur!
Dude, Dani driving a stick is so much fun compared to an automatic. And 3 on the tree is even more fun. My 58 Studebaker is a 3 on the tree and my 13 year old can do it, and so can you
That's so kewl you taught her this Dan everyone needs to know this I think ya did good teaching her I CAN FEEL HER EYES BURNING THRU YOU when you said your driving home even with her glasses on Great Job guys
I want me a 55 so much, ,,but I’m not Rich , I’m a junk man, that happens to drive around in my mater1969 chevy, picking up junk cars, and trucks and even some times houses, lol thanks BigAl California.
For your first time Dani you done great
GOOD JOB!.... Send that video of bumby road to your Provincial government and local mayor.
Lol great thumb nail. The looks on both you faces, priceless 😂
It's easier to burn out than take off normal. I learned the punch it and dump the clutch method. Wouldn't recommend it on your most expensive car, but... I didn't stall it.( Square body straight six three on tree.)
With practice dani youll get the clutch it takes time well done both of you good vids love it from down under in AUSTRALIA
Dani did great!!!
Well done Dani nice work guys greetings from Adelaide sth Australia 🇦🇺 👏 👍 🐨🦘🐪🪃
Dani did great for her first time
Well done Danni! The hardest part of driving a manual is the takeoff, and the stopping. Once you've got that under control it's all good from there. Keep up the practice and you'll be shredding rear tyres in no time!
I cried learning to drive manual and I was in '90 Ford Tempo. I can't imagine the stress of driving the bank's '55 Nomad!
Nice work Dani! And kudos to Dan for calmly explaining everything!
I learned on a 1950's dump truck when I was 4 putting up hay
Dannie definitely did awesome. Once you can master the take off everything else comes naturally. The only issue i see is that she needs some blocks on the pedals or some platform shoes because shes too short to work the pedals quickly and if shes ever on a hill needing to take off and starts rolling back thats really the only issue most people have when learning. Youll get it though and once you do itll be like you always knew how! You got this! And as always you have a great instructor! Lol keep practicing! Id suggest maybe getting her a little ford ranger with a stick that she can bounce around in without all the nervousness of damaging a nomad because im sure that factors in too!
Hahaha heck yeah im barely into the video and im rolling laughing this is awesome content!😂 Seriously though you guys are awesome, thank you for the great content.
L.o.l iam not even there and i am scard
Great job keepin it cool and getting moving!!! Looked like yall had some fun 😁
Well Danielle you drove the chevy 2 you can drive the hotrod nomad, no problem just awesome power on demand.😊
Dani did a good job
Good job Dani. You're a trooper. You'll be driving 3 on a tree, on the streets, in no time flat.
Dan you are very patient and a good teacher. You were really clutch today.
Ok she ,has to get this down pat,so she can do the burn out contests next week, thanks BigAl California..
❤❤ love your videos awesome content😊
Nice ,good job, you should of put the tires in some water, so it would spin a little on take off lol thanks BigAl California
Dani I was going to tell Dan he should start with the gas and clutch dance taking off but then he got there. Once you figure out how each car clutch wants you to start you are golden. Only other thing is when things get a little freaky driving you just step on the clutch. Always clutch first then regroup.
doing good Danielle another couple weeks of driving around the parking lot you'll be good to go you'll be able to stop and start on Hill ask Dan about it clutch heel toe just remember the more you practice the better it gets and I'll be waiting for that video of the stopping and starting on the hill
🧢 hats off to you Dan for having so much patience with Dannie especially with the best car in the fleet 👍👏
Dani makes everything cute. Absolutely adorable.
??
Row, row, row your Nomad, gently down the street.....
Brilliant thumbnail picture😂
Now teach her to rev it up real good and sidestep the clutch.
I learned to do burnouts by starting at a traffic light on a hill.
Nice job Danny keep practicing you'll be a pro🎉
You won't wanna drive an auto once you get on to the shifting..... go Danny go!!!
Dani did do a goos job. Watch the road not your foot. Dan you are a good teacher. She will soon be a pro
Well done Danni you done really well keep it up we would love to see more of you driving the nomad
tell us more about the marker light on the Caprice Dani !
Dani did great! Dan you were kind and patient with Dani and you did fantastic teaching her a standard gear set up. Now that she has the basics it's just practice driving with the clutch and shifter for her confidence to grow enough to take to the road or even the blower Nomad. Dani's smile when she did a perfect start and shift sequence was adorable.
Dani, it's like swimming. Once you get it you got it.
Thanks for sharing this video with us
Dani needs a cushion behind her back to make it easier to reach the pedals.
Brave Man Dan. Great job driving in The nomad Danielle 👍✌️🇺🇲
Great job Dani ! I remember my first time ! Lol ! Now Im a Gear jammer !
