Do you mainly play these retro fighting games single player? I was just wondering since games like fatal fury 2 for the neo geo are literally almost unplayable in single player mode. The ai reads every one of your moves and has temporary invincibility frames where your attacks wont land. I just want a good single player fighting experience but I have yet to find one after relentlessly searching the neo geo fighting games library and much more.

Endless Duel was so good. It was easily one of the best looking games of that generation. My brothers and I spent countless hours playing it on emulation way back when. It was the reason we figured out how to configure a second controller to the emulator.
Years later after moving away from home, it was the first SFC cartridge I imported. Even though by that time, PS2 was king of the world, I still got my jollies in my Navy barracks room playing a Super Famicom fighter.

Fun fact, if you play the game and not lose a match, your last boss fight will be Epyon. I dont think i was ever able to beat Epyon. If I did, it was definitely down to the wire as I've spend a lot of time fighting him and got close so many times. Dont remember if you have to be in hard mode or not to get him to trigger. I wanna say Epyon is also a hidden character but only playable in versus mode.

Sailor Moon S more specifically well known as "kusoge". It's so unbalanced and crazy that it's dumb fun. I recommend to see highlights from tournaments.
Weaponlord is underrated. Big amount of mechanics and crazy combos. Recommendation to go and look at combo videos from this game.
Gundam W Endless duel is superb. Good control and very clean and colorful graphics. Sad that this game have balance issues. Recommendation to go and look at combo videos

Weaponlord is so underrated. The parrying, weapon breaks/collisions, combos and staggering to extend the combis and into fatalities is awesome. On top of that the story mode changes depending on which characters you perform finishing moves on .

    • @Jackrost01
      @Jackrost01 2 года назад

@@pheenmachine Big issue is balance and wacky input for specials and of course how you approch to mixups.
You can gain muscle memory for inputs, but game is prety fast to follow all list of inputs for your chacter. It's have logic, that input copy same direction as your character do this move, but you need very fast to move your fingers and parry at the same time. Limited animation also confuse.
For combo - this game have plenty infinites. Snes version have them big amount of it.
Mixups is strange. Almost no one have overhead. To break throught block you need to use armor breaker move.It weakenss block for next attacks. So defender need to use, but with this animations is really not easy

  • @walterht8083

Weaponlord is great, super deep, and received a lot of hype in videogame magazines before its release (and very little after its release), it was like designed by 90s fighting game nerds to make it as deep as possible. I was a kid in the 90s and was weirded out by how my Nintendo magazine had built up hype for this game for months, and nothing at all after its release.
Wiki has some examples on how revolutionary it was
""At its core, Weaponlord is a standard 2D fighting game experience. Where it differs is in its gameplay mechanics, and in some of its aesthetic choices and presentation. The game features thrust-blocking, an aggressive blocking system similar to Street Fighter III's Parry system. Also introduced in the game are Deflect moves, a counterattack maneuver that each character has. Certain special moves, known as "Take Downs", knock opponents onto their back. A player can then follow up with additional attacks while their foe is still on the floor.
In addition, when certain attacks are performed on an opponent in mid-swing, the player can cut off a piece of their clothing or their hair. Players can finish off matches using "Death Combos", Fatality-style combination attacks that can have a gory effect on opponents.
Weaponlord's fighters possess between 9 and 12 special moves each. Moves can be executed one of several ways: sweeping motions on the directional pad followed by an attack button, "charge" moves where a directional button is held for 2 seconds quickly followed by the opposite direction, and finally an attack button, or hold down moves where the player must first hold down an attack button, followed by a directional motion, and finish it by releasing said attack button.""

THIS. Is why Xmen: Children of the Atom is one of the greatest fighting games of all time. It too was released in 94/95 and it's so incredibly good, it not only blows all its feeble competition out of the water but it aged like fine wine to this day.
Far superior to all of it's muffled, clunky, so called "peer group". And I say that as a fighting game enthusiast.
People will make excuse after excuse but almost 30 years later...there is no excuse.

    1. seriously? Everyone knows TMNT Tournament Fighters. Everyone who knows more than just Capcom. And those are many. Overlooked and forgotten? You may have forgotten what popular franchise TMNT was back in those days.
    2. This should make no.1 spot on the list! I liked the arcade versions. Played all of them on M.A.M.E. a long time ago. PI 1 + 2 were undoubtedly the best in the entire series. Awesome graphics with a unique style, over the top characters, and a plot that makes for the funniest fighter ever. A damn matrimonial ceremony is about to happen. Oh boy. This is indeed unique and fun.
    3. ah, just no. I like the idea behind it, but it leaves a rather bland and clunky impression.
    4. overlooked because it is Japan only. What's even the point?
    5. another Japan exclusive. Next!
    6. Really? Anything else that was not a Japan exclusive?
    7. Do I need to ask again?
    8. Well, aside from you telling us that it is worth a look, from a first impression I'mrather not impressed. Pretty basic. Maybe too basic. Nothing that had been done with style already - Street Fighter II Turbo and TMNT Tournament Fighters comes to my mind. Then we also had Mortal Kombat II and Killer Instinct. All of those games doing the right things at the right time. Fighters History doesn't seem to be at the same level.
    9. Tried that one once. Mediocre gameplay, nothing really special. They tried to pack in the Golden Axe feel and tie it in with SFII gameplay. didn't work to any end.
    10. This looks like a game I want to try maybe. But look when it got released. Most people were ready to jumpto the next console to hit the market.
    11. Headache indusing. It has that one female character with bouncing breasts. But Mai Shiranui won that trophy years before this came out. So not one point given.
    12. Like place no.8, nothing special here. And of course Japan exclusive. Right? You wonder it was overlooked by most gamers?
    13. many games on this list already do NOT deserve the title "great" attached to them. But this is a new low. What is this?
    14. Now that should be way higher upthe list, like being mentioned at no.2 spot. For a Japan exclusive it does have potential and it plays very well too. Tried it once and confused it for a Capcom fighter.
    15. Just no. Big no. This is one of those games only perverts seem to like for reasons I do not ask for. Just no.
To sum it up. Only really two names have been dropped here anyone might take a look at either on the SNES or even the arcade originals (if those exist) and play them whenever there is a chance:
1: Power Instinct 1 and 2. Definitely great fighting games. Great humor, awesome graphic style, nice gameplay, hilarious special moves. Everything makes perfect nonsense in a great way.
2: That Gundamn fighting game towards the end in this list. Maybe there ws another I have seen once or twwice while checking emulation lists.
The rest is just bland and forgettable meh.

I think the only one on this list I've played was the Power Rangers one, and Fighter's History now on the Switch(total SF2 ripoff, idgaf who wants to deny that, lol). Some of those games look so good though, I wish I'd had the chance to play more of these.
TMNT, Taekwando, Ranma 1/2, Weaponlord, Battle Tycoon, Super Variable Geo, & Sailor Moon

Fighter's History received a pretty bad rep due to that lawsuit, even though Capcom *lost* due to how general the ideas and designs it tried to claim were. The similarities between the two games are IMO fairly surface level. Which is a sentiment the court apparently held as well, as the court also found that the majority of Capcom's claimed similar characters and moves (excluding the stuff that was considered too generic to protect) were more different than similar.

I remember being surprised by the Capcom v DataE lawsuit because of Fighter s History, it had some similarities but nothing that serious next to World Heroes, Hanzo & Fumma were exactly Ryu & Ken; and the amount of reskinned characters.
