    Dr. Melfi was the one woman that Tony wanted and couldn't have. That's probably why he was so attracted to her, because she didn't fall at his feet like other women did. She also understood him better than anyone else, even Carmella. It makes sense that Tony would fall in love with her when he confides in her and opens himself up to her all the time.

      Yes but that woman reminded Tony of his mother, that turned him off and that's why we never see her again in the remainder of the show.
      He says "You remind me of someone back home"
      She asks: "Someone that you want to fuck?"
      And at that moment he was turned off. In addition he also felt that it wasn't appropriate to have sex with a woman who conducts business with him; regardless if she was hot or not. He was a horn dog yes but that was a line he couldn't cross.

I think he deeply cared for her and maybe received a false sense of love because he could speak to her in a way he could never speak to his family or friends. That coupled with the fact she was basically the only woman despite all his power, status and wealth - who he could never get - I think he thought he loved her, but I don't think he truly did.

      @@comedychrises nah she was definitely attracted to him in the beginning. there was definitely a connection between them, why else would they keep seeing each other for 7 years especially after the way Tony has behaved with her. even earlier in the show when she bumped into him in public, she lowkey flirted with him. and like the other dude TAPAS said, she admitted it to her therapist later on in the series, but she grew disgusted by his stories and way of thinking. but the thing about Melfi is that she's smart. she knows she can't mingle with a sociopathic mobster, especially someone like Tony Soprano, who's incredibly dangerous in almost every way. on top of that he's her patient, that would destroy the therapy (if there was any) and the dynamic of their relationship. and again, they're two completely different people. yeah i know opposites attract sometimes, but there are a lot of times when two opposing people shouldn't be together because it genuinely would not work out.

    This is my first session with Dr. Melfi (watching this clip), and I love her too =(

    @stoneharper7038 2 года назад +31

    Here’s my opinion on Tony:
    He definitely wants what he can’t have, but this was not one of those moments. Early on, my thought has always been that Melfi is the woman Tony wanted to end up with, a beautiful, smart, independent go getter who was willing to challenge Tony and make him a better man.
    However, I think he thinks that Carmela is the woman he deserves to be with. Not saying Carm isn’t a good woman but their relationship was always strained, and they don’t seem to have much spark. It’s evident throughout the entire series that he is deeply insecure and I am sure he thinks Carm is the best he deserves

    • @godfather4377
      @godfather4377 Год назад +8

      I don't think Tony would have left Carmela for Melfi though. I think Tony definitely saw something 'different' in Melfi. At this time he was depressed, and she was being that sympathetic ear he needed, after all its her job. I'm sure this is pretty common, where the opposite sex/patient, thinks they're in love with their therapist.
      Especially at the time when his mother and wife weren't giving him the sympathy he wanted. But they're people that live with him day in and day out, and they aren't being paid to help with Tony's depression.. It didn't hurt she's very attractive, which Tony will come calling to that. As he can't keep his eyes or hands off any woman that's attractive to him.
      I don't really think he was ever in love with Melfi. I think he was very attracted to her. Reality is, he didn't even know the real Melfi. Dr. Melfi vs Jennifer Melfi are two separate people. People at their job are different personality wise than in their personal life. Especially a shrink.
      That is what Melfi was trying to explain to him, twice, when he made advances at her. And she's right. You can tell this is probably not the first time a patient has done this to her.

    • @BookshelfQBattler
      @BookshelfQBattler 6 месяцев назад

      A) Tony wants the good woman but would never change and he has to be smoking crackhead if he thinks Melfi will sit around while he bangs side whores
      B) Carmela might have turned out differently if she’d met a better man. How we make idiot decisions young and end up locked in well into old age is a constant theme

  • @rcnelson
    @rcnelson 7 лет назад +58

    No wonder Tony wanted to keep his visits to the shrink a secret. Not just for the weakness he thought the visits would show, but because in his world macho men weren't supposed to pleasure women and here he is, all ga-ga and wrapped around a woman's finger.
