One of the most terrifying villains in dramatic TV history. Because it's so real and common. Many of my friends have mothers like this. It's scary how much power they weild over these men. A really cruel mother is the worst thing for a boy. They'll never recover. Not really.

I had a narcissistic grandmother, and an uncaring, narcissistic father. They would tag-team me and my mousy mom. The only time my grandmother would talk to people would be to sharpen her claws. She would call my mom every day about 3 PM and put my mom in such a horrible state of anguish I couldn't stand to be in the same room. Good times.

Even told the family I was a drunk or drug addict. Single handedly turned everyone against me and I still am amazed at how she managed it. A true manipulative narc. I noticed these traits from her mother. My Nana was verbally vicious to me. She was no help either. It's generational. These women pass it down. Luckily my father kept me the hell way from them growing up.

This is even confirmed in a later scene where she asks him to take the macaroons away but leave some "for the lunatics" and then eyes them the entire time while Tony is pouring them onto the tray. 2:09-2:11 is such a masterclass of acting and directing! Love how this scene feels so real as they all just stare at Tony in varying states of confusion and/or horror before reacting! Most movies/TV shows have characters instantly react when another one falls down, faints, etc. but this is like real life where it takes a few seconds to process and then move. I also love how Livia continues to try and bring the attention back to her even as Tony is laying on the floor, acting all overdramatic lol! Also, at 9:40 when she complains about Junior not knocking--"I could've been in the nude!"--I think it would have been hilarious if Junior responded, "Yeah, just like in the old days."

This is totally my family! The father mother relationship is totally my dad and his mom. The mother daughter and AJ and Tony are my family. Maybe this is how most families where a narcissist is involved are like. The griping continuously is so relatable.

Nancy really made Livia a real life person. “I will not eat in this house!”, everything thing she said was believable.

Olivia was the best to re watch...toxic but very funny...Nancy made her very real and consistent in her misery making of family.

The name Chase chose for her - Livia - so perfect. Livia was the wife of the emperor Augustus. Look her up. Yikes.

Watch the series I, Claudius. Another Livia, you just have to be careful with what you eat.

It takes a lot of skill to play such a despicable character perfectly, especially with the difficulties the actress was going trough, the character feels so real.

Nancy Marchand, what an incredible actress she was. Truly amazing as Livia Soprano. She was also in a Naked Gun film too showing her range as an actor. RIP.

It’s amazing how Livia has been gone since season 3, and she was still talked about the seasons after that.
Shows what a powerful character she was.
