They gave him a lot of things to be sympathetic about but it all kind of goes out the window when you see him choking and beating the shit out of his girlfriend over and over. Still jarring to me even after watching the whole series several times. Brutal af. A great and complex character played to perfection by Mr. Imperioli.
Sil and Tony's family were pretty honest to him too. But Sil was more careful than Christopha, obviously, because Sil knows his temper very well and is more calm by nature too
And that's why Sopranos is the greatest - there's no moral lecturing here - just complex characters. And that's the thing - men that beat their women aren't 100% bad - they're complex - as all humans are.

In this there was no going back, no forgive and forget. She was going to have to go away for ever, and to him it was her fault for doing this to him.
