Why I traded my Golf R for an M340i | POV

The golf r is one of my favourite cars, however, the MK8 had many issues that made the daily drive a real pain. It pushed me to make the decision to get a BMW M340i instead! Fingers crossed that the MK8.5 will have everything fixed because I still love that car!

I went from the Cupra Formentor 310bhp to the M340i, night and day improvement. It staggers me that they didn’t think to illuminate the touch controls for temperatures, at night I’d have to wait till I pass a light in order to get an idea of where the control is. The 2.0 engine needs work, the 3.0 in the BMW is way smoother and the power curve is constant. I do miss the adaptive cruise control though

I have a '16 R and I haven't upgraded because I hate the newer steering controls you mentioned, but I will say that new black edition R does look good.

My leased m340 goes back in around 3 weeks. I'm planning to order a lease for the golf R mk 8.5 black edition due for delivery in around 6 months. Which car feels faster? How would you compare the driving experience?

Haha thanks man! If Audi doesn’t bring the RS3 hatch to Canada then I might get the mk8.5 golf r 😅

I personally like my 8R better and luckily have had zero issues since ownership.
