I just got my xcaliber 22in 22 arc barre in today, i ran the factory 62's and the factory 75's to get some brass the 62's averaged 3250fps sd of 9.8 and the 75's averaged 3075 with a SD of 7. Both loading shot half moa 3 shot groups. I may not even end up handloading for this rifle with that kind of performance out of a gas gun with factory ammo. Velocity was collected with a garmin
They both are pretty efficient cartridges. Federal just rushed the 224V….. the issues with the twist and 95smk were the main ones. The other issues were primer pockets loosening quickly and difficulty tuning loads. Hornady talked about some 224V issues on the podcast on 22arc. Basically the 22arc was a lot easier to work up loads and still had good precision at the higher velocities. The 224V took a lot of work to develop a load with each bullet. They also had to lower the velocity to get decent groups. So far I’ve been using a BA 16” and a RA 22” in 22arc with good results. Neither of my barrels like the 88 eldm with the powders I have. The 75eldm, 62eld vt, 55vmax, 53vmax and Barnes 50vg have held 1moa or better with the powders I have on hand.
I'll give it time to see if primer pockets are an actual issue or a Hornady talk down issue. If the heavier 88's aren't running well, kinda defeats the purpose of a fast twist TR ARC. I can run 75gr in my standard 223 Wylde.
@@OutdoorEDventures I’m interested to see as well. The 88s held ~2.5moa and the velocity was lower than I expected. A different powder might help but a 1-6.5 would probably be better. The main benefits I’m seeing are: 1. ability to use higher bc bullets at mag length 2. Higher velocities with those projectiles in shorter barrels with less pressure. 3. Brass life has been good so far. I have 10-12 loadings on my nosler and starline brass and it still looks good. I’ve been annealing so we’ll see, only had to trim once so far.
Thanks for the info dude. I’ve been wanting to get into 22 Valkyrie for a long time, was finally going to make the jump, and came across this Hornady advertising all over RUclips podcasts. But the thing is, I prefer to be with the Valk because of the smaller bolt face, plus it’s just cheaper.
I also noticed that they don’t supply any data with the Valkyrie using the same 62 gr bullet as the ARC. The only reason for me to use the ARC is it can share the bolt and mags with my Gredal.
Time will tell to see if ARC will do as stated. I'm already hearing conversation that heavies are not good with the 22 ARC which kinda defeats the purpose in its design.
I’ve got an early 20” 1/7, 26” Rainer Ultramatch 1/8, 20” Faxon 1/6.5 match. The Rainer is the best shooter, the 6.5 is finicky. Pushing for velocity in this cartridge loosens primer pockets quickly but in the 26” , its magic, you get the velocity and don’t have to push the brass so hard

The Valkyrie would not outrun the 22LBC aka 22 Grendel in powders that I used. CFE 223 is tops in velocity of what I used, leverlution is another good one
Yeah, the problem with .224 Valkyrie is that PTG screwed up the reamers when it came out. I think they did the same thing for 6.8 SPC and they sent me a .50 Beowulf reamer that was entirely screwed up. Any way, the bad chambers were causing pressure issues and accuracy problems with factory ammo. They should have never dealt with PTG and they should have started with a 6mm chambering. .22 ARC on the other hand has all of the issues of any 7.62x39 based wildcat, the case head is too big for the AR15 bolt so the lugs are weak and also the magazines are a compromise. The 6.8 SPC which the .224 Valkyrie is based on has good magazines and has good bolts (because the case head is smaller) so if your barrel is cut right it's going to be good. I wish PTG never had the chance to screw up .224 Valkyrie because there is no reason for 22 ARC to exist beside PTG's screw-up...
Well in all fairness the Valkyrie wasn't Hornady's .think it was federal ? And they really screwed it up when it first came out. Also think the original basis for the Arc ( both 6 and 22) was out before the Valkyrie in the wild cat realm

Why run a 62gr in either ARC or Vale? Purpose of a fast TR is to run long heavies.

I converted my own brass so we will see if it's a Federal brass issue or cartridge flaw.
Bear Creek Arsenal, always check your tightness on the gas block. I’ve seen a couple flat out totally loose

Only thing I have heard bad about the valkyrie is case head separation issues. Not sure how true it is as I don’t have one though

I also think Hornady changed something from the original 22 Grendel. I haven't been able to investigate a converted case versus Hornady's 22 ARC case.
I'll have to remember the hand towel brass deflector next time I misplace my regular brass catchers.👍👍
