- 22 ARC, which one will you be shooting?
22ARC, made from 6 ARC or 22 ARC made from Hornadys factory round, using the 6.5 Grendel case?
Don't worry, we have both reamers.
We've been building the 22 ARC based off the 6 arc cartridge for some time now, our reamer is a Manson reamer with a shorter free bore.
I hope this video explains the difference and if you need help, we are always here.

Be happy they are good at marketing, because that means sales, so you don’t get bought by private equity, then sold to an overseas buyer. And I’m glad they necked down grendel
Like you said they are good at marketing. If you stick the new varmint match bullet in a 224 valkyrie, you'll have the same ballistics. They create a new high bc bullet then and act like they have a superior cartride comparing apples to oranges.
Hornady is good at cartridge development for latest trends in demand that are driven by rifle manufacturers, competition shooters, hunters, and the military.
They like chasing cartridges that are useful to shooters, and are the current market pace-setters well ahead of Federal, Remington, and Winchester.
This is very informative.
If the 22 ARC is as accurate as my 6 ARC, then this will be a great option!
Very interesting good info thanks
220 swift as well as the 22-250, and the newer early 2000 's 223wssm is much better than the new stuff coming out
1:30 EXACTLY. Hornady needs to spend less time and effort on marketing the "next big thing" and focus more on supporting the cartridges they already have. They're effectively killing 6 ARC by underproduction after marketing the hell out of it forever. It's pathetic.
I agree I'm still pissed about the 6.5 Grendel they used to make the American Gunner version that was cheaper and it came in like a 200 round plastic box now they want to sell the Hornady black for 38 dollars for a box of 20. Come on.
Bolt gun question. Is there an advantage with the Hornady 22 ARC shooting the heavier 69-80 grain bullets compared to 223 0r 22-250? 22 ARC longer case neck? I shoot 223 with 28” 69g sierra’s which is good to 700m, won’t be trading 223 for 22 ARC just curious.
Yes, more case capacity means more speed, usually you can load them longer in a bolt gun as well. With that said, you'll have to find a mini action with the grendel bolt face in a bolt gun and i think theres better options for a short action, but lots of people run one.
The 22 arc will be faster than a 223 but slower than a 22-250.
I really like its specs because I want a bit more speed on the heavy 22 cal bullets, but don’t want to step all the way up to the greater powder burn and much shorter barrel life of a custom long throat fast twist 22-250.
For a long time I wished there was a factory option to fill this spot. It may not be what you need, but personally I’m excited to get one.
I'll sick with my swift 60gr sierra haven't lost a coyote yet
If current hunters had more exposure to the 220 Swift, these other newer cartridges wouldn't get any traction. IMHO
@@markcarew6724 an that's the truth these guys today have no idea what the swift even is that's said there supposed to be gun gurus riiight
@@waynemayle865 They also don't seem to know the difference between great bullets and those unsuitable for big game. The 220 Swift also doesn't leave the poor coyotes spinning and shrieking after being hit.
@@markcarew6724 🤣🤣🤣that's exactly right
@markcarew6724 the .220 Swift is still KING OF THE MOUNTIAN!
I'd like a maximum speed AR15 cartridge running 35 to 55 grain bullets.
22GT might be the ticket.
243 wssm in a ar15 made by jard inc.
@@bryantillotson8243 they still making them?
@@specializeddynamics yes they are. They are also making a sf ar10 in 22 creedmoor.
You can still get 243 wssm ammo through choice ammo. It's an awesome round for an ar15. 10 percent more juice than the regular 243 win.
Is either caliber (Factory 22 Arc / 22 Arc Wildcat) limited by the number of rounds you can have in a mag similar to the 22-250?
No, should fit to max capacity
You can fit around 26 in a 6arc or grendel mag
Should only have 90 grain projectiles. No point in less
Some like the speed for night hunting, but the 90’s will be a nice long range pill
Question. It states that the ammo is designed to be used in a AR-15. What do I need to convert my 5.56 ar to fire 22arc?
Barrel and bolt.
And Grendel mags. Basically everything you need for a 6.5 Grendel /6ARC@@specializeddynamics
So is the 22 arc, just the 22 grendel wildcat? Was looking at a 22 grendel last year.
It’s an exact 22 Grendel
I stopped watching when you brought up the “problem” that Hornady can’t keep up with 6 ARC brass and somehow can’t do 22 because it’s different brass. You realize that different headstamp brass is made in different production runs, right? It’s not like they’d just neck down 6 ARC brass even if the shoulder dimensions were the same.
As to why 22 ARC is longer, it’s probably because it didn’t need to be due to .224 bullets being a little shorter for the weight range that’s optical compared to 6mm’s and not needing to be shortened to work best in AR mags. Sorry you jumped the gun and spec’d the wrong reamer.
Appreciate the feedback, but I guarantee this will be more popular than the 6 arc and they won’t be able to keep up no matter what.
@@specializeddynamics So you think the 4th factory supported SAAMI .22 cal option on the market that fits in AR mag length is going to be more popular than the only 6mm SAAMI option? Great logic.
@@CoryHarrison-js6ph let’s revisit in a year and look at sales. It’s called trends, the .22 cal is the hot ticket right now.
6arc vs 6x45 video
Arc burns more powder and therefore pushes the bullets a bit faster. It also lets you seat the heavy bullets out to mag length. Can’t really do that in the 6x45 because the case is too long.
@@Cowboy.underwater I've shot 95gr vld in my 6x45 no issue
@@taylorfritz3801
What was your overall length?
Did it fit in your magazine?
How much powder did you use?
Rifle, barrel length, velocity?
Genuinely curious, I considered building one a while ago.
All Hornady is is a bunch of blister tip bullets and not much else. If they had stuck with the original I'm talking the original bonded bullet they would have something. I wouldn't even buy a bullet from them for Tweety birds it would fail some how some way. Sing there praises boys I'll stick with nosler or something else. They can't match a 22-250 so they need to quit trying so do other companies it was designed to shoot 50-55 grain bullets so all ammo companies need to quit with the lighter faster bullets ain't what it was designed for even heaver bullets won't work that's what the AI is for
You will probably see less and less 6.5 grendel
I agree because Hornady won’t be able to keep up with the “new” 22 arc brass
6.5 Grendel has been adding roughly 10 new factory loads per year, including the new 100gr ELD-VT load from Hornady.
There are now 124 factory loads for 6.5 Grendel.
@@LRRPFco52 I don't doubt it, we just don't see all of those here where I live. There is Hornady Black 6.5 Grendel on the shelves here. While all of the stores carry all of the Hornady 6 Arc offerings.
I reload so I rarely use factory ammo, so I don't necessarily pay attention to calibers I don't have.
@@jdrollason When I think factory ammo, I primarily refer to online orders. I order by the case unless I see something I really want on shelves. I wait for deals then pounce.
@@LRRPFco52 Gotcha
