Oh My God !!! Your 6ARC is crying at the loss of love with the new kid in town showing up in her domain. I'm staying with the 6ARC as I'm to invested in it to take on another new comer. As always, you make it look easy.

I've been shooting .224 AR (22 grendel) for about a decade now, and absolutely love it. Wish it took traction years ago instead of 224 valk or 6mm arc. 26-28" barrels seem to be the sweet spot, with a +2 over rifle length gas system, atleast for me. Able to get around 3050ish with 90gr Bergers. I'm glad to see someone posting about it! Cant wait to see how yours develops.

I’ve known about the 22 Grendel for a while now but there is almost no companies making barrels chambered for it and the few that do are usually always out of stock. I would love it if you could do more testing and get the optimal twist rate, gas length, chamber dimensions, and other characteristics just right so it shoots at its best for 80 -90gr. And then produce a barrel somewhere around the 20 to 24 inch length we can buy from you. And also either a custom bushing or a custom sizing die.

Been shooting the 22 Grendel aka 224 Predator aka 224 AR for several years now. I like it very much, 24” Bull BHW 1/7”twist, 20” AR Performance 1/7.7” twist and most recent an 18” Satern barrel in 1/8” twist. All of them are tack drivers. The 24” 1/7 will over-rotate and disintegrate some lightweight Varmint bullets, no so with the 1/7.7 and 1/8 twist so I designate the 24” as heavy specialist but it’ll shoot fmj 55 and 62 just fine, the jackets are thicker.

Good luck. I have been working with 22 grendel for 2 years. Cannon tactical 24in barrel. Has a lot of brass issues with over growing and pressure. 88 elds as a bullet have been horrible. They get fliers all the time. 85.5 bergers were best but still need buffer and spring mods all the time. My chamber was a Jim Cannon chamber and seems to grow brass .0015 . Sent barrel back and still not good groups. If you come up with a good reamer or barrel I would be very interested in buying one. Good luck. I have experimented with at least 6 bullets different brass(alexander, lapua). Several powders etc. If you want to discuss it let me know.

In my testing, i used the same 6 ARC brass for find pressures and see if their is failure with brass. I loaded that piece of brass 15 times and still holding strong. The 88's are the best performer so far as you can see in the groups shown. This barrel I made and can offer the same at DPGunworks.com

wait so what is the difference between this and 6mm arc? is it chambered in 223 essentially but using the grendel case? the bullet does not look to be the same used in the 223 case as it is in the video. it looks to be longer but it could just be how the camera captured it. i know you can get 6mm in that same weight so i was just curious. great vid man. wildcat rounds are always something interesting to look into, especially in the ar platform

Seen some videos start to come up for the 25 creedmoor. (Creedmoor comes in 6.5, 6mm, 22) AR-15 6.5 Grendel, 6mm arc, 224 Valkyrie.

Im currently building a 25 Creedmoor bolt gun with a WTO switch lug. The availability on 135gr Bergers seem to be regularly in stock. I did some testing on a RPR in that caliber and shown outstanding performance at 1K being 6.8 MRAD. As for the 25 cal, I did own a 25x45 AR15 barrel and was a really heavy hitter. Another great cartridge is 6x45. For the AR, their seems to be lots of choices in either 22, 25, and 6mm to suit all shooting disciplines. A 25 Grendel might be the sweet spot

This video gave me enough info about the 6mm ARC vs the 6.5G to make up my mind.
The 6.5 Grendel has better ammo selection and pricing than 6 arc, more manufacturers make it, for cheaper.
Both are equal out to 500y and looking at the performance of both from a hunter's point of view the 6.5 Grendel is more approachable and capable for deer and pigs.

It's the special follower that tilts to always make sure the nose is up.
The ONLY downside I've noticed it's that loaded mags don't drop free, but that is actually part of the design, the sides are designed to swell to accommodate different width cartridges and keep them feeding upwards

NO, the 6mmAR, 243LBC and 6mm Predator have been out for years. The 6mmARC was done by Hornady to get around a NC clause while they were making someone elses dies. The 22 Grendel/224AR/224 Predator were wildcats long before Hornady made the 6mm ARC. The 6mm ARC is .029" shorter than the rest.

Are the ballistics that much better than what the 6.5 Grendel can produce with similar weight bullets? Sierra show 3060fps with an 85gr bullets and Hornady has over 2700fps with a 100grain bullet out of the 6.5. With availability of components being considerably easier to find I see the 22 Grendel as a non viable option. Definitely fun to chase perfection as a hobby though

22 Grendel will suffer similar issues to the 224. When you try to reduce the barrel length for a more compact DMR, the performance starts to wane very quickly and a 223 becomes a better choice. That being said, the shorter, fatter case manages some of this.
The Grendel has diminishing returns past a 20” barrel but works wonderfully out to 800-1000 (altitude-dependent) down to a 12.0” barrel. The ARC’s accuracy across mass production parts seems questionable in an AR unless you find a way to properly reach 60,000psi. (I’ve made hits at 1300 yards with a Ruger American home build in 6ARC with factory 108s and works even better with handloads)
If anything, the Grendel should be explored in the other direction bore wise, like a 6.8 or 7mm Grendel and brought as close to a 16”/18” barrel as possible, with some performance overlap much like a 338 Federal vs a .308 Win.
I’m curious though if you know any manufacture who makes bolts that will take the 60,000 PSI like a JP Enhanced bolt.

I've thought about a 25 grendel as Im exploring the 25 Creedmoor. Thanks for sharing. I agree, from my 6 ARC factory barrel testing (27 barrels) accuracy has not been good unless it was a 18 or 20 inch rifle. I decided to take matters of the 6 ARC in the AR15 in my hands and designed a reamer with a shorten Freebore which now shoots factory ammo near half MOA. I offer these barrels at DPGunworks.com

@@EagleEyeShooting There's supposed to be some chemical in the RL17 to keep it from burning too fast and building too much pressure. The 6BR guys were getting 200 fps more, but that holds a lot more powder. I ran almost everything (for 6 ARC) past QL last weekend and 8208 XBR got only 2796 fps with the Hornady 105 grain BTHP without going over 62,000, and that was just average.

no, because just like 6.5 grendel to 6 arc, lighter and faster is not always better. looks good on paper and against paper but not when shooting actual flesh.

I won't own a AR-15 with a barrel longer than 18", and you must be using some high pressure to launch a 90gr 22 cal faster than a 6.5 Grendel can launch the same weight
