Jason’s “DIE, MOTHERFUCKER DIE!” will never be topped. Rob does a wonderful job whenever he does have to do his minimal backing vocals, and he’s arguably a better fit as far as his playing style but Jason brought so much raw energy and obvious passion for the music. He put it all out there for everyone to see and hear every night, which is probably why he’s still so widely respected and admired among longtime fans. The most common criticism I hear, which is also the dumbest IMO, is how he played with a pick. Who fucking cares?! The dude was great at what he did for nearly 15 years. Newsted will always be my favorite Metallica member
Jason is the reason on why I picked up the bass and on why I want to do backing vocals. What a BEAST. Cliff's backing vocals are insanely good too. But Jason's stage presence is INFECTIOUS and I love it!
Rob is so good playing-wise but his vocals sound a little quiet almost like they turned his mic way down compared to the other two. My favorite performance of Rob is definitely WRATH OF MAAAAN but you can't compare the other two in that case because the song was released recently. If you don't think Rob has it like Cliff and Jason, you may be right, or you just haven't seen him play 72 Seasons live!
after james blew his voice, they would make jason sing seek n destroy time to time, there are footage of him singing songs like whiplash, the four horsemen and bell tolls. He probably had a better technique than james, seeing that he can still do the growls and james just mimicking and sometimes not even doing the screams nowadays.
I miss Jason in the band so much when it comes to their live performance. Don’t get me wrong. I love Rob. I think he’s one of the best active bass players today. He can do some things that not everybody can do when it comes to plain base and if we can’t have Jason, I’m glad we have Rob but man Jason‘s vocals live just added like an extra layer of energyto the feeling in the arena
Cliff was the best bassist, but you got to give credit to Jason for the overrall package. Dude was a monster on backong vocals. Robs pretty decent too, his crab walking ass.
All the times I saw them live was back in the day when Jason was with them I really want to see them with Rob. I think Rob is a phenomenal player but man when Jason would do backing vocals, I swear Kirk would just be mouthing it sometimes like I couldn’t hear him at all And then one time Jason couldn’t get to the time, but Kirk didn’t know that and there was no sound coming from Kirk at all lol . And I love Kirk and Metallica is my favorite band but when Jason stepped up to the mic, he was the lead vocalist it felt like.
Jason was the only guy who could make James sound like a backing singer
man jason's voice was something else! shame that he left metallica...
I miss his howl in of wolf and man
He didn't just leave Metallica. HE FOCKING LEFT THE BAND
Cliff backing were so good and jason captures his energy as well

I think every bassist they had fit the best for their era, although Cliff's era was sadly too short. Also I don't understand the pick criticism either
Holy fucking shit, I never knew Cliff sounded like that
I would argue Cliff was the better BACKING vocalist but Jason was all around a superior vocalist
Jason is basically just an evil metal vocalist
No way cliff was the better backing vocalist, he was the better bassist but when it came to singing jason was by far the best
If you ever feel useless, just know that Kirk also has a microphone

I always thought it was cool that when Jason was in the band, they’d let him sing lead parts of Whiplash and Seek and Destroy sometimes
One of the reasons why I still miss Jason :((
0:43 it seems (and sounds) like Day on the green
it's not, it's from Hampton Coliseum 1986

Bass playing ability aside, when it comes to backup vocals, Jason was the best!
Jason and Cliff? Flip a coin. Both are incredible. Rob? He's a good bassist but he's been a place holder for 20 years.
Rest in Peace Cliff
Let my people go
I just watched finished prince of Egypt like 30 minutes ago and this song was on my mind the entire time
Land of goshen
Jason is the best! Best bassist/backing vocalist/force of nature they ever had!
Jason was the one who could do lead vocal better than James sometimes. Incredible guy.

Jason is the only one who was really good as vocalist imo.
0:51 holy shit cliff
Jason is the best
JASON
Jason’s vocals are insane

Who all love Metallica?
Jason > Cliff > Rob but Rob has gotten soooooo much better. He was pretty terrible the first few years.
Bring Jason back! Help James' tired voice and extend the career of Metallica.
Cliff was the best bassist, but you got to give credit to Jason for the overrall package. Dude was a monster on backong vocals. Robs pretty decent too, his crab walking ass.
If you can’t tell almost all their best backing was on creeping death, this confirms it’s the best off of RtL (in my opinion)
Forever ROCK...
Matters more than the bass playing lol
Jason was better than James Cliff Robert
Imagine how useless kirk felt when he had to do backing vocals alongside Jason.
