  • We love a good hearty dinner, and cabbage rolls are no exception 😍 these cabbage leaves are stuffed with rice and ground meat for the ultimate comforting meal - we love to make this year round, served alongside some potatoes 🥔 aaand we like it with a dollop of sour cream too, although not traditional in some places, we find it the perfect accompaniment!

It’s always interesting when people accuse someone of making the dish incorrectly rather than just differently from what they are accustomed to doing. It’s more polite to just share your family’s spin on it without being so dismissive.
She did a great job and I would try her recipe.

We cook them in a thin tomato sauce that has brown sugar and lemon juice in it and let it simmer for hours on the stove in a covered pot, or 1/2 an hour in a pressure cooker. I've never seen them without a sauce before.

This is a little different than the way my German/Polish mom made them. Her filling was ground beef, rice, bacon, and maybe onions. Can't remember for sure; it's been 40 years. She pressure cooked them, and the cabbage was always slimy too me, unless I got one from the bottom of the pot that had crisped up. I like the way you baked them. I want to try it that way. Thanks!

Those look great, I’d definitely try them!! Just to add to the confusion (lol), my momma’s cabbage rolls are cooked on top of a layer of sauerkraut and the top is a tomato gravy of sorts. I’m not looking at the recipe but from memory you melt a small amount of crisco in your frying pan and then add equal amount of flour to make roux. Then you add in good quality tomato JUICE. Cook it together until it makes a gravy consistency, then season with salt and pepper, I also add in a touch of sugar to cut the acidity of the tomato juice. We always have that meal with mashed potatoes. It’s a special dinner at our house because when we make it we make an extra large disposable turkey roasting pan so we are sure to have leftovers. Put a scoop of mashed potatoes then 2 cabbage rolls leaning crosswise on the top and then light layer of gravy over the whole thing…SOOO GOOD!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
