I am old school enough to remember the days of hand written reports. Oh those were the days. Funny to watch all the newbies when the dreaded system crash occurs. Many fun times watching them completely get lost. Anyways we call ours MDC's Mobile Dispatch Computers. Our old MDT's were all one unit now the MDC's are three pieces like a desktop.
Paul Jameson Sure is. When I FTO'd my past few rooks they were dumfounded with me putting up a note pad on the dashboard. They truly never even thought of what to do without the use of a computer
PremierAutoMan86 yeah that made me lol. I volunteer with fire services and I get picked on by my cop friends but it's all love. We take good care of each other.
Dude your transparency is gold.. like a girl being truly honest/straight up. Only a very few cops show how it works and only few girls show and except what they are. If everyone could be like that this world would be a utopia.
I was rewatching this video in class and my teacher walked 3 seconds before all those girls came on screen then I had to explain my way out of the situation I got put into thanks 401 really appreciate it
You mentioned sending direct message to dispatch "when you don't want it to go out over the radio". That reminded me of a question I've had for a long time: why aren't police radios encrypted? Wouldn't that solve a lot of problems? The technology has been around for a long time. Just curious. Love your videos, thanks.
+Officer401 I appreciate your willing to show us, for me and about 7 or so years I'd need to have a basic understanding of how the MBT's work, but I understand the need for departments to keep that know how under wraps
I work for a Security company as an armed gaurd. We use Spillman for reports, name databases, vehicle databases, and we use the CAD program. Its a really awesome system!
Here in Maryland a lot of agencies now use a program called E-Tix, created by Maryland State Police, which allows them to write warnings and citations all on the computer and then print them out on a small in car printer. They take the car's registration and the driver's license and scan the barcodes on them and it populates everything they need (name, address, car, etc.). All they have to do is select the charges and hit submit and print out the warning or citation. It also allows any other department using the program to see if the other person has been stopped before. Even if they were only given a warning. It's pretty cool.
I went on a ride along with my local PD (a city in Oregon) and watching him pump out police reports in the car in minutes and getting them approved makes me feel a lot better because my Police report writing supervisor makes it seem like i will be sitting at the office at 3 am for hours putting together reports
The procedure to get back to the department's network and access applications is very similar in the entire corporate world. Most telecommuters or remote workers use the same 4G / VPN technology to access the corporate servers, so nothing specific to a police laptop setup. But I do wonder before the 3G/4G revolution, how did the police MDTs gain their connectivity say back in the late 90s or early 2000s?
*This was a subject I have been wondering about for a while. I have a huge interest in becoming a police officer but man, am I TERRIBLE at streets, directions, etc. I still have some issues navigating the city i'v lived near my whole life. I often wondered if police had GPS to the calls your were dispatched to, or did you really just kinda have to know where it was. That would honestly be a nightmare for me.*
Not to mention you generally work certain areas or sections of the city. You'll quickly learn any area you drive around every day, especially when you start referencing street names in reports and on the radio.
Yup I’ve seen the police cars in my area with gps and all active calls listed on them, I’ve seen cops use google maps on their laptops to get to calls.
You will learn this from your FTO. He will expect you to only get better over your FTO until you've learned your city. If you're really worried, spend some time driving around your city. Get a real map. Start with the big streets/roads and learn every intersection along them. Then move to smaller streets/back roads. To learn an intersection, learn both the names of the streets intersecting and the block numbers on either side. So, they may say "600 block of Supercop Street", which generally means the housing numbers in that bock are in the 600s. For standard numbering, each block generally goes up 100. But, there are some weird places out there.
I used to work for the company that is the service center for all the Toughbooks in the US. Between police, military, and medical you’d be amazed at some of the stuff that came in...... Well, Officer401 wouldn’t be surprised, but most people would.
I'm in the process for Phoenix PD. Just subscribed. This has some good insight. Although all jurisdictions are different these videos are helpful. Awesome!
Not going to lie, when you started talking about the map function, showing all the calls in your jurisdiction, I totally nerded out. It made me think of a real life skyrim, looking at the map for all current and active quest.
Dan C at my agency it just depends on how the officer enters it. We can enter “verbal warnings” into the system so another officer can see if you’ve been warned before, but we have to actually do it. If we don’t then there’s no record of it.
Tactical Blue also do you know the drug war is the root source of the majority of gangs and the cartels income? you can't even keep drugs out of prison, I don't see the point in trying to fight them in a so called "free"(as in the most locked up) nation.. just regulate it and sell all at pharmacies and take the power away from gangs and use the taxes for education instead of billions being smuggled out every year to fund cartel armies
Carolyn mmitchell, part of your logic is correct, but the other side of the coin is way different. I taken people to jail for misdemeanor drug offenses. However, they needed to go to jail to open their eyes. I had two cases where people came back and thanked me because literally I changed their lives by taking them to jail. You don't see those cases on tv because it doesn't sell ads. Yes, some drugs should be regulated, others cannot because it causes so much damage not only to the person using it, but to families, relatives & friends.
In the 1980s, when dinos ruled, NCIC was done on crts and teletypes. Civilians with scanners could get a lot information from dispatch to car transmissions. Some agencies still primarily use the radio, so personal information is still in the clear.
I asked a similar question in a license plate collector group on Facebook I'm in and maybe one or 2 LEOs answered and if I remember correctly, I believe the US and Canada use similar software, so if I went to Canada, they could look me up, but they also answered that Mexico is a different system than the US and Canada. I did see alot of Baja California plates when I lived in Southern California, and I moved closer to Canada and now I see more Canadian plates and saw one European plate that was from Austria and that got me wondering how would a US based officer look up the plate or license that's from Europe or even China, Japan, China or another country
So a while back my cousin and I were hanging out on the sidewalk by a restaurant/shopping center playing Pokémon Go while our families were waiting for a table at the restaurant and a cop pulled up and asked us if we knew about a robbery that had happened in the vicinity. The only reason that he asked was because we were two guys wearing shorts 😂 that’s literally the only thing that matched the BOLO. He ran our ID’s via radio and asked us what we were up to and made sure that we didn’t do anything. It was quite the story when we finally got back to the restaurant.
Here in RI I worked for the Department of Attorney General - we had the entire criminal history system in our office plus AFIS connectivity. NCIC and BCI of course but the MDT's also can check INFACTS and DMV. Now most departments in the state use IMC, but Providence was special - HTE wined and dined the command staff. It sucked.
The ncic violation is funny compared to the egregious stuff former assistant vice undersecretary of defense John Rogers and his daughter are directly responsible for or people have confessed to. People have tangibly endangered police and service members lives with their actions not to mention literally billions of lost value. Some people need to go to prison. They’ve thoroughly earned it. I know there’s some good law enforcement and people who watch these videos. If you can help I and a lot of people would really appreciate it.
I worked on various CAD systems. Not Spillman, but I probably worked on the crappy one you said :D. Actually, one of the ones I worked on is from San Diego. It was called VisiCAD. I worked on the GIS, so my job was to make sure driving directions were correct and the map display was correct. I also worked on a reverse 911 system for chemical spills.
I would like to add on to a point that you made about using a Jetpack for your data needs, I believe Indiana has a contract with Verizon (or only certain agencies do here, idk the specifics) to allow cars to have decent internet speeds for a lot cheaper price and with that, more and more patrol cars are being equipped with an interior modem with an exterior antenna to have a hard connection to the cellular rather than relying on WiFi. Just thought I'd add my tidbit, love your videos.
I ran a man once and he was an active Escaped State Convict Wow.....I played it cool and got him to submit peacefully to arrest....he was on a date with a local bar maid. She was freaking out....lol
@David Bryant Holy shit you're right, this guy is a giant scam artist, pretending to be a preacher... "All you need to make good people do bad things is religion." So, so true.
You can go to www.edo.cjis.gov and submit a fingerprint card to get a copy of your own report. I'm not sure if it's exactly the same as what comes up on the MDT, but it's close
So, I figured I'd share because maybe someone would like to know. A department close to me uses spillman for their CAD software, and from what I know it's basically just used as a for call information (Type of call, Call notes, Responding units, location, time of dispatch, etc.), unit information (Unit status and what not) and GPS. If I'm not mistaken it has applications for fire prevention (Fire inspection/code checks and all that fun paperwork heavy stuff), but I'm only educated on what fire apparatus use it for, which is primarily the 3 categories above.
In Australia we did away with MDT's and switch to iPad mini's, so the officer can run your information without having to go back to a vehicle. You just have to learn to keep your eyes on the individual at the same time as the screen so you dont get your block knocked off.
I love how regular people get ticketed for windows that are tinted just slightly too dark, but in the cop car, you can't even see out of the windows lol
At my previous agency we used the InterAct reporting system and I LOVED it! (especially as a detective). At my new agency we use Spillman, and I am having a hard time getting used to it. To me, Spillman isn't very 'user friendly' and it doesn't flow as well as InterAct. InterAct was also web-based; and when you wanted to save or print a report, it would make the report a PDF which was nice. And with InterAct, everything is pretty explanatory and easy. You know when your photos or documents are uploaded; and sound-alikes will also appear when searching names (whereas in Spillman the name will not appear unless you spell it correctly). Anyways: I just REALLY miss the InterAct system. It's only about 5 years old; but it has the same really great database that Spillman has. :)
Well, if successful, they'll do a lot. The thing about hacking is its not as easy as you might think. Mainly, a laptop that would usually serve that purpose would usually have full disk encryption, which of course, would require either millions of years of brute force attacking with all the processing power in the world, or them to find a vulnerability in AES, which would be only slightly easier than disproving 2+2=4.
That would be impossible, every state, county and town has conflicting rules on it What is legal in my city could be illegal in surrounding cities, same goes for each state
Flipcheck305 photo radar (the real deal) I HATE a non human determining and be trusted as calibrated etc.... I am ok if I get human interaction to tell me I am a led foot ... But damn if a person is a possible dangerous speeding vehicle... That stupid ticket is about revenue not safety .... Speed trap by the school 35 during school 45 other times. Everyone. Hey man, was wondering if it would be in your interest to check out a trailer for the game "ready or not" it is a SWAT based game. By the look of it, it is trying to take a more serious and dark approach to the SWAT genre, just thought it would be fun to hear the opinion from somebody who has prior experience with the subject. sorry for bad english i am albanian :p
AbundantlyClear hahah, thank you kind sir, i went to an english school so i have a good understanding of the language. But of course, if there are any mistakes with my grammar i always try to correct it. But thank you :p i try my best
Secrets of in-car police laptops... That obviously besides the safety of the law enforcement officer, and then also properly securing any weapon... The laptop is an quite the valued tool of law enforcement, but is also rarely properly secured. These laptops are frequently variations of Panasonic Toughbook laptops. Despite attempts at properly securing them, it's not all that difficult to get "complete access" to the device in less than two minutes. Hackers conferences in places such as Las Vegas have already shown many examples of how easy it is to obtain access
if someone had a speeding warrant in say..California or Utah..like far west and they are pulled over in Tx or Georgia..How would that work? Im not talking serious warrants but say a $150 -200 dollar speeding warrant.. What would transpire?
Chet Manley No state is going to travel 1000 or 2000 miles for a $200 dollar ticket. I asked to see of the cop would answer..I live in San Francisco and my friend got a 103 in a 70 and got an attorney in the Dallas/Ft Worth area.. then moved..The atty got it reduced from $361 to $175..He has been pulled over all over the country since 2007 WHEN HE GOT THE TICKET..The cops TELL him NO ONE IS GOING TO WAIST ALL THE TIME TO DEAL WITH THIS..OFF HE GOES..EVEN WHEN HE WENT TO AUSTIN WHICH WAS 300 MILES FROM WHERE HE GOT THE TICKET IN the DALLAS area.
Dude by your name you are either a wanna be cop or military freak but thank god you are obviously NOT a cop because you cant even comprehend my post which about a TICKET WHICH ALREADY HAS HAD A BENCH WARRANT SINCE 2007 AND NO COP OR SHERIFFS DEPT IS GOING TO TRAVEL 1800 MILES for a $175 ticket..Ive seen him get pulled over on road trips into Colorado and none of them give 2 shits.. its not murder or even "EVADING" LOL..as you said ..Its a sub $200 ticket that even cops from THE SAME STATE didnt care about when he was 300 miles from DFW..Its not worth all the B.S.
Mic Mule you are absolutely right, but the software creators don't make and never will make it compatible with Linux or any linux-based software. Why you ask...it's cheaper to just make patches and randomly send them out.
Being a software developer I don't understand your point about price of development for linux based systems vs NT based systems (windows). The languages used to code programs for linux based systems is usually C++ or C#, the language used on windows systems are pretty much the same. C# for the ease-of-use and C++ for resource intensive applications. So where exactly does the cost come into play?
Ahahah got so excited just looking at that literally 2 seconds ago lmao you put a huge smile on my face your a big influence on why I wanna become a cop
ROFLhacks Nothing to do with the car being stolen. Could be in your parents name. Girlfriends car. Rental cars. Borrowed from a friend. Work vehicle registered to the owner of the company. Ect.... Also stolen cars aren’t always reported right away. You may have just stole it 5 mins ago and no one knows. Also if I am going to write someone a ticket I am going to verify who they are. Not just assume they are the owner. What if you let someone borrow your car and they got stopped and told the officer they forgot their wallet but they were the owner of the car. Now you have a ticket in your name and you weren’t even there. Now you have to go back and prove it wasn’t you. Just a few reasons to always check the drivers ID.
license plates do not have driver licenses attach to the returns. So when officers run license plates we can only see the register owner of the vehicle. Then we ask for license plate to verify the identity of the driver.
Sounds like my local PD can use Spillman. They have the latest and greatest of Explorer Interceptor, the computer has been replaced with what seems to be a Tesla Touch Screen. The program was very intuitive, and it had GPS, showed active calls, get into the record of the individual(but they contact dispatch for that), however they still had to hand write on paper a after action report. after every call, they had to spend 5-10 min(depending on the call) handwriting a filed report which they still had to input in the system at the department after patrol. I was doing a ride along, and I told my Officer that someone should come up with a better system.
one cool noteworthy feature in a patrol car, at least in my area, is that you can listen to nearby phone call conversations..... shouldn't be legal but apparently it is. i got into a small fender bender and while i was calling my boss for the vehicle and insurance information i heard my conversation being broadcasted through the patrol cars speakers
Stopped eating tide-pods to watch this video!
FuzzFam yes please
FuzzFam ?
FuzzFam Hola.
Ahahahhaha lol
those tide pods are so damn yummy

Do cops even fill up their patrol cars at just any gas stations? I never seen that before.
@@johnsanchez3236 I've seen cops filling up gas before.
@@johnsanchez3236 Pretty much. They've got a gas card

Same in EMS! Makes me feel old especially when the newbies look at map books like "WTF are those?!" 😂

How to become a firefighter
1: Don’t
2: Become a cop
LMFAO wonder what a firefighter would say to that.
I am one and it gave me a pretty good chuckle.
Coming from a firefighting family its normally..
(one doesn't simply become a cop
they have to fail Fire training first)
Then U won't be able to become a firefighter

As a former EMT we had a GPS in the ambulances, so I'd like to think by 2018 all emergency vehicles would have them.
Not to mention you generally work certain areas or sections of the city. You'll quickly learn any area you drive around every day, especially when you start referencing street names in reports and on the radio.

Are verbal and written warnings saved in the database? I have heard different things from cop friends and was curious.
Dan C at my agency it just depends on how the officer enters it. We can enter “verbal warnings” into the system so another officer can see if you’ve been warned before, but we have to actually do it. If we don’t then there’s no record of it.
it all depends on the system the police agency uses. Some systems share warnings among police departments. Others like mine don't.
Tactical Blue how do you feel about the drug war and locking up "criminals" who are non violent offenders for felony charges for simple human weakness

You should do a video about running international plates through the system

Not all databases have that capability. I work in Texas, so I have my fair share of Mexican license plates. I can't run them... so not much I can do.

I ran a man once and he was an active Escaped State Convict
Wow.....I played it cool and got him to submit peacefully to arrest....he was on a date with a local bar maid. She was freaking out....lol
Daymond ' Chief ' Jones Well... women like bad boys.
I caught one once over a pedestrian violation of all things.
really? @David Bryant
@David Bryant Holy shit you're right, this guy is a giant scam artist, pretending to be a preacher... "All you need to make good people do bad things is religion." So, so true.
They upgraded our county jail to Spillman from DSI overnight with no warning or training. It was a great couple weeks.
Is there any way for a civilian to find out what comes up when your name and Lic number gets looked up?
No, I have never shown anybody my terminal.
Please tell me that all the personal information viewable at 6:28 is fake.
Yes, it's fake.
In Australia we did away with MDT's and switch to iPad mini's, so the officer can run your information without having to go back to a vehicle. You just have to learn to keep your eyes on the individual at the same time as the screen so you dont get your block knocked off.
They become a fire fighter after they find out they're too intelligent to become a cop LMAO!

Do you ever work with park ranger officers?
I worked with some before. Sometimes when we are too busy, they back us up.
The police department in Arizona used spillman! That's crazy cool.
Ever had a creepy ass call, you can't forgot about?
Tax Tic watch today's video
Loved it!! Stopped doing HW just to watch. Love your channel!!
was in the middle of snorting a line of ajax to watch this
That chicks face and noises cracks me up every time
@@doobs930069 same. Lol in fact gunna go watch that clip
When U go to a callout and the firefighters are on scene, then ask them why they need Spillman and what they use it for
Bob The It's obvious that they use it to stalk their wives and mistresses.
what will happen if a professional hacker got hold of that laptop?
ItsShadow Bonnie they could find da wae
It probably has full disk encryption.
In Texas, MDCs are required to have software where we can wipe out all the data remotely.
Core Frisk Donald trump gets set as wanted for murder
Well, if successful, they'll do a lot. The thing about hacking is its not as easy as you might think. Mainly, a laptop that would usually serve that purpose would usually have full disk encryption, which of course, would require either millions of years of brute force attacking with all the processing power in the world, or them to find a vulnerability in AES, which would be only slightly easier than disproving 2+2=4.
Love the little shot at firefighters 🤣😂
Officer401 make a video about window tints
That would be impossible, every state, county and town has conflicting rules on it
What is legal in my city could be illegal in surrounding cities, same goes for each state
He has before on a vid
Flipcheck305 photo radar (the real deal) I HATE a non human determining and be trusted as calibrated etc.... I am ok if I get human interaction to tell me I am a led foot ... But damn if a person is a possible dangerous speeding vehicle... That stupid ticket is about revenue not safety .... Speed trap by the school 35 during school 45 other times. Everyone. Yes
Really rocking that 49 MPH
Hey man, was wondering if it would be in your interest to check out a trailer for the game "ready or not" it is a SWAT based game. By the look of it, it is trying to take a more serious and dark approach to the SWAT genre, just thought it would be fun to hear the opinion from somebody who has prior experience with the subject. sorry for bad english i am albanian :p
Demonic Waffles there select fire?
Otaku Akioji take a look at rhe trailer. They have Everything you can think of by the looks of it
YOU write English better than most Americans!
I think you get a resisting arrest charge.
It's the same thing to me I'm a layman when it comes to law enforcement
You can arrest them for reckless driving. But if they got away from a speeding arrest from Cali, I would slap them with evasion of a peace officer.
Dude by your name you are either a wanna be cop or military freak but thank god you are obviously NOT a cop because you cant even comprehend my post which about a TICKET WHICH ALREADY HAS HAD A BENCH WARRANT SINCE 2007 AND NO COP OR SHERIFFS DEPT IS GOING TO TRAVEL 1800 MILES for a $175 ticket..Ive seen him get pulled over on road trips into Colorado and none of them give 2 shits.. its not murder or even "EVADING" LOL..as you said
..Its a sub $200 ticket that even cops from THE SAME STATE didnt care about when he was 300 miles from DFW..Its not worth all the B.S.
Perfect timing for this video. This is my next course.
thought it would run linux (fewer ways of breaking it by like viruses and shit)
Mic Mule yup
Thought this too. Would be a lot more stable as well. Most probably less resource intensive as well.
Mic Mule you are absolutely right, but the software creators don't make and never will make it compatible with Linux or any linux-based software. Why you ask...it's cheaper to just make patches and randomly send them out.
yea but for most government software dont run windows as far as im aware thought it would be the same for (most) police
So why does an officer ask for my ID at a traffic stop if my license plate gives them all the information???
ROFLhacks You may not be the owner of the car. So it’s just to confirm your identity.
So they are assuming that the vehicle is stolen even though it isn't reported stolen!?
An example of driving a car that is not your would be driving your wife or girlfriend's car.
Can a civilian use either or those programs legally?
Hammer Head Hippo doubt it but maybe
ncg1234 1 I’ve looked all over the regular internet and it’s not downloadable, might have to get it on the dark web
If you are a dispatcher or jail controller maybe
No
Nope.
Should make a video on why good copa do nothing to stop the bad ones. Would be a great explanation as thats a huge reason people cop hate
Seems like a nice, professional cop.
Awesome George Orwell 1984 reference at the beginning! xD
one cool noteworthy feature in a patrol car, at least in my area, is that you can listen to nearby phone call conversations..... shouldn't be legal but apparently it is. i got into a small fender bender and while i was calling my boss for the vehicle and insurance information i heard my conversation being broadcasted through the patrol cars speakers
You got some dark tint on those windows
