  • I had the pleasure of discussing Givens and Druthers with Brian last week. As always it is fun and informative talking with him. Part 1 "Givens" discusses the definitions and givens of model railroading such as room size, curvature and various other considerations. Part 2 "Druthers" help define your preferences for style, purpose, and form you'd like to achieve and clarify what is important to you.
As always Brian it is a pleasure spending time with you.

This is good but I would like to add something philosophical to consider as well. An additional important factor to consider when modeling a prototype in a limited space is: What part of the prototype are you willing to live with? If you want to run in circles - forget about it. Composing a layout footprint, concerning a particular prototype, requires compressed composition of a particular defining scene that will represent the prototype. A functional signature scene (diorama style) will do this while accommodating authentic track radius. If you can't accept the latter then you can't have the former prototype in a small space. Cheers. 😁
