  • During a conversation at the last Open House (July 20, 2024), George mentioned to me that there has not been a lot said about the track work on the F&SM. And, if one studies all the photos and videos taken over the years and posted on various social media sites, the emphasis leans heavily on all the amazing structures. That of course comes with the territory when this layout comes from the man who set the gold standard for highly detailed craftsman kits with his company Fine Scale Miniatures.
    George's artistic gift and technical aptitude is not just limited to structures, but covers the whole range of the hobby, including trackwork. These trains runs smooth. These trains don't derail. These trains don't stall. You don't see a train ever needing a gentle nudge to make it run again on the Franklin & South Manchester.
    So here's a few minutes of some still shots of close up track detail. You will see, if you look hard enough, rail joiners, solder joints, and very well hidden wire connections. All of the basic things that it takes to make a model railroad go. And then ballasting, paint and weathering to conceal and give it realism. Of course sprinkled in between the still shots is plenty of footage of all these well constructed trains running flawlessly throughout the Franklin & South Manchester.
    I agree with George. This trackwork is just amazing.

    An amazing layout. From the buildings to the cars to the tracks this is the best weathering job I've ever seen. The landscape is great as well.

    Really well done..! So many have showcased the many talents of George - mostly the structures and incredible details around every corner. Truely the 8th wonder of the world..! You have featured the part of the layout that does not get enough attention. George’s track work is also top shelf. And the locomotives running with a variety of consists showed well in your video. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.

    Been a fan of the railroad since it's debut in MR back in '86. Really enjoyed your videos showcasing the varied details on the layout. Many have uploaded layout videos, but I think you are the first to really zero in on the layout it such a meticulous way.

      @@skruloos1 my suggestion is to make it a priority. George is getting up in years. And the best way to experience is with George there. Buy a ticket to Boston and make it happen.

    All I can say is WOW!!! At the 5:48 time line there is a shot of the switch. Where did you get this casting of a switch machine that use to be used?? Please..

      @IndoorRailfan  21 день назад

      @@davidcurtis5398 good question. At first glance I thought it was a Caboose Industries switch. But it does look like a static casting. I can ask George next Open House in September. You might try www.railroadkits.com/s/shop?page=2&limit=30&sort_by=popularity_score&sort_order=desc. They bought all of George’s molds a few years ago.
