  • Rarely interviewed, Elizabeth Montgomery talks about her experience on her TV show, “Bewitched.” Elizabeth notoriously always refused to wiggle her nose on request - as you’ll see in this interview.

Even when Elizabeth Montgomery had terminal cancer, she was just so beautiful and certainly didn't look too ill. I call her this tragic beauty, gone too soon, and the same with Agnes Morehead, and the actress named Alice who had ovarian cancer..... My goodness. It made me want to cry. And then, my own mother who had cancer, joined those who were pretty much so iconic, to me. I still think about these amazing actresses and my mother.

True. He ended up in small town in Michigan because his mother had died and left him her house. Dick & his wife were in dire financial straits for many years, so the chance to move there for a rent free home was too good to pass up ! In a TV interview he did before he died, the reporter said they were living on $650 a month from his Screen Actors Guild pension. But in the interview Dick (on oxygen) was anything but wallowing in regrets & self pity. He was very upbeat and only had positive things to say about his career and his co-workers. He & wife were involved in raising money for the homeless up until the end of his life. Bless his kind & gentle heart ! May he rest in eternal bliss....

I'd seen in a video on here about Bewitched which revealed how Dick York had supposedly fallen in love with Liz and wanted her to leave her husband for him. Biggest problem with that was that her husband was the producer of the show! How did he expect her to leave her husband for him in that situation? All three worked on the same show and he was just willing for both of them to lose their jobs over this? Because I'm sure that's what would've happened since her husband was the producer and essentially their boss.

Ms. Montgomery had a summer home in Patterson, Putnam County, New York State. Following her death in 1995, the 794-acre (321 ha) estate was sold to the State of New York and it became the core of Wonder Lake State Park. She loved spending summer hiatus from Bewitched there and figured that if she willed it to NY State it would be protected and could be enjoyed by everyone

Samantha IS Elizabeth. That statement is so true. The things that Sam did Elizabeth did at home, painting something around the house, painting a picture, gardening, and like Sam, Liz, according to her eldest son, was an excellent cook.
But one of Liz's interesting comments is that, she was never bored, in all eight seasons, and she learned so much, like going to college. She also said the same thing in another interview. That two-part interview is here on YT.
There are those, who have done BEWITCHED documentaries, have expressed the opinion that Liz was bored by season eight. But she did want to move on. As Bill Asher said, BEWITCHED had run its course and television had changed.
Her parents wouldn't let her go to a movie until she was eight. They felt it was better that she go out and play, just like a lot of other parents. ❤
As I watched the interview, I got the feeling what a sweet person. Her smile was genuine, not forced. Her children would probably disagree with their Mom. Based on what her son and daughter said, in the 1999 A&E special, their Mom would always go and see her kids, no matter when she got home from work. Her son William said that she would always talk with them. He said, on the weekends, it was all about her family, just like her own dad did, when she and her brother were kids. Her daughter, Rebecca, said that she missed her Mother's voice.
Finally, Elizabeth seldom spoke of BEWITCHED, until the late 1980s, when Herbie Pilato met with her for his book THE BEWITCHED BOOK (now BEWITCHED FOREVER). Because of the book, she let her guard down a bit. Liz was very private. She was proud of BEWITCHED and the cast, and they loved her. As an example, Pilato wanted to interview Dick Sargent and David White. They wouldn't speak to him unless Liz was involved. She arranged for a telephone interview with Sargent and a surprised face to face meeting with David White at Elizabeth's home. This shows how much love and respect they had for her. Pilato would go on to write Elizabeth Montgomery's biography.

Elizabeth Montgomery wasn't the angel she is portrayed as. Read about what happened to the first Louise Tate. Basically forced to quit because she was friends with a producer Elizabeth Montgomery didn't like. And the fact that she went out of her way, to not mention the second most important reason Bewitched was what it was (Dick York) was so small of her.

@@robinlillian9471 I agree with this assessment about "maybe it was an agreement'. She was known for not wanting to talk about "Bewitched" all that much in the late 1970s and through the 1980s and just really started talking about it again around 1989 and later. I read when Bill Asher directed "I Dream of Jeannie: 15 Years Later" she called him and told him he was an idiot for doing that. All counts point to her being a looking forward in her career type of person, not really looking back that much. Several folks have said that she was surprised how popular "Bewitched" had become when it was being shown on Nick at Nite in the late 1980s, she genuinely had no idea the show was so popular.
