My sister became a friend of Dick’s. He was a very generous man. He and my sister helped homeless people in Chicago. Dick had not seen most of Bewitched shows. My sister took up a collection and we bought him a VCR and a TV. She sent along tapes of his work.

I heard on another program that Elizabeth liked the second Darrin better, and that they were good friends...I think it’s really sad, that none of the cast reached out to help him; or that Elizabeth M. didn’t even call to ask how he was doing, after six years of working together! What a cold and disconnected culture we live in..He was my favorite Darrin...May he rest in peace...

That just makes me sick that he ended up in such a terrible financial situation, especially after being on that hit show. God bless you, Mr. York, and thank you for the hours of enjoyment I had watching Bewitched; you will always be THE Darren.....or Durwood, as Endora would call you! You were so funny, and you made many people laugh, just as you wished to do. Rest with God.

Damn man, I didn't expect to end this video with tears in my eyes. Not because I felt sorry for York but because he refused to let the worst of what he experienced get him down.

I honestly think that if Dick Sargent would've been the first Darren as was originally intended, the show wouldn't have lasted even 5 seasons. The role of Darren Stephens was tailor-made for Dick York..

I still remember an interview I saw with him not long before his death. He seemed like such a sweet man. I can't believe some of these comments. If someone cares about others or puts others first (like the Bible tells us to do) there are always those who think they're weak or stupid. No, it's just someone trying to be a decent person. I think the world needs more people like him-someone who has compassion for others. He might have suffered here on earth, but hopefully he'll reap the rewards he deserves in Heaven.

What a decent loving man. His true genuine kindness shone beautifully in every Bewitched episode. Never was the same show after he left. Dick Sargent always came off as sarcastic pompous not least bit humourous. Defintely didn't look like he was happy making this show.

What a lovely man. He reminds me so much of the patients I care for now. They have so much on their own plate, yet worry about "being a burden" to others and letting people down. I wish I could tell Dick that he had no reason to feel guilty at all. His body betrayed him, but he betrayed no one.

What a decent man! What humility , a quality most actors, especially today, don’t possess. He served others in the last part of life and did so with happiness despite pain. Definitely a role model . God Bless RIP .

This piece moved me to tears. Dick York was such a wonderful person. Towards the end of his life, he received tons of fan mail and he was so grateful that he had entertained so many people. It sure seems like someone in Hollywood or the TV industry should have helped him out a little financially. I recall reading somewhere that Elizabeth Montgomery and others may have offered him help, but he did not like to take charity, so maybe that was it.
