Don Rickles seemed to never have a moment when he was lost for words. He was sharp as a ninja sword right to the end. A force of nature. Verbally he had the energy of Robin Williams and the creativity to match. A fearless comedy legend.
But was he ever really funny? Not to me. Ever. Williams was just hectic, a manic. Became very unamusing fast. Bill Hicks was a real comic Letterman gave the cold shoulder to. How about that?

As a 29 year old, I wish I had Letterman, Carson and Snyder for my late nights. Love Rickles, he made fun of everyone, religion, race, you name it. And at the end everyone loved him. I can watch Rickles for hours. Just saw a 98 special he did, where he held a glass in honor of Dean Martin, breaks my heart, he outlived them all.

Great Don Rickles clip, thanks! Lots of comedians try the snark route but only Rickles could trademark snark with such total artistic commitment. We were lucky to have his genius for a time.
He was such a pro at recovering from dud jokes or one-liners that flop. It’s like he’s controlling the crowd, keeping laughs going even when something doesn’t land.
Nothing was more hillairous on Carson when Rickles would show up and rip into everyone and that carried over to Dave's shows. Launching a rocket for a legend... rip, you beautiful beast.
I agree...I think the audience may have been too young(they panned to some youngster out in the audience and she looked like she was in college)and didn't appreciate Don...
Are you kidding me?!! Rickles was on fire that night. I am surprised he didn't drop his pants and fire off a rocket. Why can't we have a generational supply of Rickles...
Ye, the headline was a bit off here. Don Rickles wasn't upset at his role in Casino, rather he was theatrically bashing Dave L, for his silly questions about his role in Casino.
