    It's sort of a rule that Servants are incredibly powerful beings compared to living humans.
    This game really makes you _feel_ that difference when fighting them...

    • @natchu96
      @natchu96 Год назад +32

      A human from the age of gods could potentially be as strong if not stronger than a servant, but mystic forces have been on a sharp decline since then, and by Iori's time very few people would even be able to put up with a servant for more than a few seconds.
      They are spirit familiars powered by the memories and legends of mankind, after all. Not only is the force of their mere existence extremely potent, but physical attacks don't affect spirits to begin with. Unless you are capable of magecraft, you pretty much have to reach a realm of mastery where you can even cut souls with pure technique, but from what I remember from the developer interviews for this game this game is set just after the last of such sword saints have passed. Even then servants are stronger and faster than humans of this era, Iori will be an inch from the grave in every encounter.

    • @A_Liner
      @A_Liner Год назад +1

      @@natchu96is that true? Regarding the human from age of gods rivaling the servants?
      I thought when the servants summoned in certain timeline, their power ranges to be more powerful than the humans. I mean, in Nasuverse, the power scaling ain't fixed. It never fixed.

    • @Wandersnatch.
      @Wandersnatch. Год назад +25

      @@A_LinerIt's true, but it's not any random human warrior. The ones that can fight servants usually are the ones that becomes heroic Spirit themselves. The period they are summoned only matter if it affects their legend.

      @blurb9319 Год назад +9

      @@A_Liner It's pretty established that humanity generally grew weaker over time as mystics faded and made way for science, though that isn't to say that there aren't still some really strong humans.

    • @natchu96
      @natchu96 Год назад +5

      @@A_Liner Your random nondescript human likely ain't coming that far, at least not without being decked out from head to toe in divine armaments or something. But those from the age of gods powerful enough to leave behind legends and end up as heroic spirits in death anyway tend to be on par with their selves as servants, especially since servant vessels do not recreate their power perfectly; a warrior hero with strong foundations in magecraft could be summoned as a caster, but their physical abilities would plumet, and vice versa.
      Now Grand class vessels are orders of magnitude better and might actually exceed the original living versions more often than not, but only the counter force has the ability to make them for the most part, and only in response to the presence of a Beast.
      The time period they're summoned to doesn't really directly affect anything, but the fame of the legend does impact the power of the servant manifested from the legend, and in that regard the degree the legend has spread across the world at different points in history would have an indirect effect.

    The circling around Iori Saber does when they explain the waxing moon ritual is a reference to other fate series where similar rituals are explained by someone. The explainer will inevitably gravitate around the listener because the mass of gibberish being "explained" is so dense that the listener's brain turns into a mini-black hole as it tries to absorb it all.
    As an aside, Saber's name not being revealed is actually quite important. To illustrate why, let's say you summoned Achilles as your servant. You know Achilles. Everyone knows Achilles. And everyone knows his heel's his weak spot. If it becomes known your Servant is Achilles, you might as well shoot him in the foot yourself because dat boy ain't surviving for long.

    So without diving too deep (or to at least attempt to), here’s some general history to close some of the gaps in your knowledge. The Fate franchise has existed since 2004 with the visual novel Fate/stay night. It takes place in a modern setting and fully establishes a lot of what Fate brings to the table. It’s often regarded as the de facto way to get into the franchise, however due to it only existing in English via fan translations, this has made a lot of folks pass it up in favour of its anime adaptations by Ufotable (the Demon Slayer guys).
    That being said, despite what many would argue, it isn’t really important where you start with the franchise as very few of the entries connect in narrative. Most Fate entries exist in their own universe, either spinning off from the initial Fate/stay night timeline or doing something entirely different. There are of course entries that tie into each other, such as Fate/Zero (which is a prequel to the original VN), however when you’re jumping into a new Fate title, assume it’s a completely seperate setting and concept until told otherwise. The main thing that ties all these entires together are the heroic spirit setup, which permeates throughout the franchise. As such, if you end up liking Samurai Remnant and are confused on where to go from there, the answer is that you can basically go wherever you want. You can try the other games, the plethora of anime, and even Type Moon’s visual novels, which have begun receiving official English translations (such as the long requested Tsukihime). I’m sure you’ve made a ton of people very happy with this let’s play Nico, so all I can say is, in spite of all the memes that are bound to arise from this, I hope you have a fantastic time with this game.

It's the first entry in the series, and thus explains all the basic concepts to beginners. But fundamentally all of it harkens back to the still extreme popularity of an old classic and kind of poster child of its own entire genre and builds on its ideas and concepts in their own ways, expanding the overall lore and maybe referencing parts of it while being mostly standalone stories.

      It IS extremely complicated. Nasu is extremely up his own ass and uses very flowery language that is basically hot air like lots of fan translated Chinese web novels. It is all made worse by said horribely vauge powerset describes never being SHOWN.
      Decades in and we still have so few touch stones for what normal Magi can do since even El-Melloi focuses on the exceptional (Dude had his heart ripped out by fairies for example), what a proper Grail War looks like, exactly how Magi affinities work, thaumaturgical attributes, how Magic Crests work (when they pass them down 'cause the family head giving it up at 30 to his young heir seems weird, does said family head now lose some of their own circuits?), and all extremely heavy meta shit like Tsukihime vs Human Order world lines, all that crazy ass moon cell shit, and Nasu blending together unrelated religious icons and unrelated fictional characters like Shinto & Buddist characters, or blending Scath & Skadi.

    The MC Miyamoto Iori is a real historical person who is the adopted son and disciple of the great swordsman Miyamoto Musashi (the person the young traveler said would've been able to beat the 84 bandits). The opening also shows a young Iori walk towards Musashi. He would've been adopted by the same people that adopted his sister in this game, and become a well-to-do samurai. I know that after the Warring States and the rebellion a decade ago samurai demand goes down, but he's the disciple of the man who beat and killed famous swordmasters all over Japan.

Example being if you were to summon Achilles, you’d know that his heel is his weak spot. So that’s why the servants instead of saying their real name use the classification you’ve heard thus far. Saber, Rider, and Lancer which they are hero’s of.

    *A wizard once fought the embodiment of the Moon and origin of all vampires by summoning a Moon from another timeline and launching it at him.
    *Thousands of years ago, a giant alien superweapon crashed onto Earth and killed all the Gods.
    *Big Ben is secretly home to a giant society of wizards that is built ontop of a corpse of an impossibly ancient dragon.
    *There is a vampire, UFO spider currently located in South America that is ALSO the embodiment of a celestial object.
    *There is a collection of alchemists located in the Egyptian desert that casually build superweapons while also preventing several apocalyptic scenarios.
    *There is a supercomputer on the Moon that is able to record all the happenings of earth and simulate them to a degree.
    *There are several unique magical particles including Spiritons, Psuedo-Spiritons, Mana, Ether, Od, True Ether, GudaGuda particles, Elisa particles etc.
    *Potatoes exist in 500 AD Britain.

    Welcome to Fate!
    This is a series was a ton of games, visual novels, and light novels, but it is less daunting than it seems.
    Fate can be breakup into this:
    The original Fate/Stay Night and it's sequel and prequel. Then a bunch of spinoffs this that play with the world in various different ways and with various amount of context need from the originals. Fate/Samurai Remnant is spinoff with only small unimportant connections to other works and explains itself well enough that it is a good alternate starting point.
    Fate is the creation of Kinoko Nasu and it is part of the Nasuverse. The Nasuverse is just the world of all Nasu's works which reside in the same universe even his non-Fate works. Granted some Nasuverse works take place in "what-if" timelines, but they are still canon (e.i some multiverse stuff). I would like to note that Fate/Stay Night had three different routes that went into very different directions, but are all treated as equally canon.
    The reason Fate has some many spinoffs is:
    1. Money
    2. Many spinoffs are written by different people than Nasu. Fate's universe has a vast lore built up over the year and various authors have requested or were requested to write stories in Fate's world. For example Fate/Type Redline is a manga written and draw by Ryoji Hirano who worked on the manga Demon Slayer.
    P.S.: I hope you read Fate/Stay Night one day it is one of the greatest Visual Novels ever made.

    To make it clear:
    Fate/Stay Night is the original game that originated everything (well, technically, there's Tsukihime but that's another ballpark). It's a straight up visual novel.
    Fate/Stay Night is divided into three routes that are 'technically' different games: Stay Night, Unlimited Blades Works, and Heavens Feel. People generally suggest playing Stay Night first, and then the other two in that order.
    You don't need any prior knowledge to play Fate/Stay Night, but it is a LONG Visual Novel.
    Hope this helps.

    To explain Fate a little bit:
    In Fate, a Master (basically wizard) can summon a Historical figure that's called a Servant. The Servant that is summoned will generally be given a Class depending on their summoned attributes. There are 7 basic classes that a Servant can be summoned as. These are:
    Saber: A Servant summoned for their prowess in swordsmanship.
    Archer: A Servant summoned for their prowess in ranged combat.
    Lancer: A Servant summoned for their prowess in lance and spear usage.
    Rider: A Servant summoned for their speed and mounted combat capabilities.
    Caster: A Servant summoned for their skill for magic usage.
    Assasin: A Servant summoned for the sole purpose of killing their opponent as quietly and/or efficiently as possible.
    Berserker: A Servant that has lost their mind in exchange for extreme physical power.
    While there are other classes those classes aren't present in this game (Except for a Ruler, who is summoned independently from any Master for the sake of overseeing the Servants and their fight).
    A Servant being from a class doesn't stop another hero from being in the same class (for example: Both King Arthur and Roland both have legendary swords so they can both be from the Saber class). However, in a normal setting only one Servant from that class can appear in a certain place.
    I hope this quick explanation helps out. Also thank you so much for giving a chance to Fate. Im so hyped for the rest of the play through.

    It's great to see Nico finally open the can of worms and begin his journey...
    ...of historical Japanese terminology pronunciations!
    Okay, so Fate is a series with a crap load of jargon that is used all throughout. Even in the first game, Fate/Stay Night, they tend to throw out a ton of buzzwords which you're expected to pick up on quickly. I'm going to note down key terms and what is revealed about them as they become relevant in each episode. Some of these terms are pretty self explanatory while others have a lot of details so it can intimidating to keep straight due to the amount they throw at you at once, so this will hopefully help sort things out going foward in the series.
    Servant/Heroic Spirits: These two terms are used interchangeably, and as the name implies, they are spirits of dead heroes. You can tell what characters are Servants since they are referred to in English (Saber, Rider, and Lancer). However, these are not their True Names. They are exceedingly powerful, being able to destroy entire houses in their battles.
    Master: Has a servant, and are sometimes referred to as summoners. Seven of them are involved in the ritual, with Iori being one of them. They can be identified by a Mark.
    Waxing Moon Ritual: A massive spell that has seven Masters fight using servants until one remains. The last pair of Master and Servant standing can make one wish.
    Workshops: Basically an area that a mage sets up where they can easily practice magic.
    Mage: Someone that practices magic. It's sometimes translated as 'magus' in other games fyi.
    Don't worry too much about memorising them as they get used a lot in the Fate series, and you will get used to them after some time.

    • @Viledove
      @Viledove Год назад +3

      Additionally, Waxing Moon Ritual is actually a new term unique to this game, though it's just another name for what every other story in the series calls it - The Holy Grail War

    Fate series is a TYPE-MOON media collective. It began with the visual novel, Fate/stay night, and has since gathered a number of prequels, sequels, spin-offs, and adaptations bearing the same "Fate" name.
    Fate/Stay Night is a mid 2000's visual novel. The visual novel is comprised of 3 separate storylines or "routes", which have radically different events and tackles the visual novel's core themes in a different way, averaging out to be 60 hours altogether. Fate/Stay Night itself is an incomplete work without having consumed all three routes, effectively making the series a trilogy that must be consumed all at once. It also happened to be classified as an eroge game for having H scenes within the game that where inserted to help drive sells. Though only about 30 minutes of the 60 hours where H scenes. And later remakes and rereleases removed the scenes entirely.

    The reason why revealing the servant's name to a weak master is a bad idea is because if the enemy figure it out, they can make a plan to exploit that heroic spirit weaknesses, like the way they fight, the different techniques they use in battle, but most importantly, the nature of their noble phantasm, a powerful weapon/power based on the legend of the heroic spirit, with that knowledge is easier for the enemies to prepare in advance for that attack, therefore giving them the advantage in battle

    The co-founder and head artist, Takeuchi, is just so fond of the design behind the original Saber from Stay/Night that he ends up reusing the same face and hairstyle for various other heroines in Fate entries.

    Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever imagined Nico playing a Fate Game. I'm crossing my fingers and toes for the day he dives into other Nasu properties.

    Oh. Oh god. Nico? Nico are you okay? Are we really doing this? Is this okay? Am I okay? I'm not sure if I'm okay. This is a bad idea. Are we going to have another 100h visual novel as a follow up? Are we really sure about this? Like really really sure? Like really really really sure? I, I don't even know what a Saber or an Alter is. I'm scared. Help?

      Saber is literally anyone in fictional and real history who has wielded a blade or as of Grand Order, wants to suddenly start wielding one.

    So just to give you a brief rundown of the timelines, Nico. There's the "main timeline" which, to simplify it, includes:
    Fate/Zero > Fate/Stay Night and > Fate/ Atoraxia. Which are all visual novels
    With Fate/Stay Night being the big granddaddy of them all and having several routes (2 of the bigger routes being adapted into anime). The reason why I call this the main time is because most of the spin offs and alternate time lines take place in alternate universes where some of the key aspects about the main timeline is changed. For example, the Fate "Extra-verse" a series of games, including some of the Musou games take place in a distant future of the main timeline (which in of itself has different timelines)
    One clever thing they've done is the whole concept of essentially "re-using" characters (mostly those historic figures) and having them appear throughout the entire franchise. Like you'll see characters from this game appear in other media and vice versa. Which makes it great investing in chracters and having them appear in another form of media. I won't clarify all too much how it works in fear of spoilers and each situatuon may or may not be unique.
    Lastly, I hope you enjoy this franchise and game as much as I do!
    Tl:dr Main timeline is Fate/Zero > Fate/Stay Night > Fate Atoraxia and most fate media makes reference to it and pretty much builds upon. Its a lot and to quote a certain character from Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works,
    "That's hell you're walking into."
