"I don't get why revealing your name is bad, can they just look you up in thenhistory books and go 'aha your secret weakness is so and so' or something" Yes, actually. That's exactly it. If you know your opponents identity, you know their strengths and weaknesses. You know who they are, why they fight, often how they died. For instance, if one were to summon Achilles, your enemies wouldn't know how to beat him because he's invincible. But if Achilles named himself, all of a sudden they would know how to kill him, by striking at his heel.
@@jvts8916 yeah this war is a special case becuase Japanese people don't know much about history outside of Japan and thus non-japanese servant's has a huge advantage of not revealing who they are even after using their Noble phantasm but on the other hand servant's on their homeland has more popularity whitch makes them stronger than they should be.
Nico, the reason Iori asked Musashi to clarify what Power-Up meant is that she is using a lot of English Slang in her Dialog. Slang thats invented in about 400 Years and is copletetly foreign to Japan. Using Modern, Present Day Japanese Teen Slang is one of the foreign things she took a liking to.
Okay so to clear things up about Musashi: her first appearance was in a different Fate work. She has a preestablished history older fans are experienced with but shouldn't be a hassle for people going into Samurai/Remnant. Theoretically speaking, Male Musashi CAN be summoned. The way Servants work is that one person can be summoned in a wide variety of ways due to alternate timeline shenanigans or in various stages of their life or how they were viewed after death. Just as an example, if you, Nico, were a famous American soldier, you'd be viewed as a hero on one side and a villain in another. Therefore the Nico that could be summoned as a Servant could be "Evil" Nico or "Good" Nico depending on the conditions. It's a very clever play on how humans don't really have a clear consensus on how they view or portray history or how historical and mythological figures tend to have sides we don't consider. Also fun fact- Dayu and Iori are both historical domain characters! It's kinda neat because it's unusual for Fate works to feature historical characters as Masters instaed of Servants like that!
@@risu2312 I'm not the most well versed in all things Fate, but the point is that a Heroic Spirit can be summoned as the basic version or the dark ominous version depending on the conditions of summoning. This is mostly to how different groups of people, race, or country view different historical figures. Example : A war hero from country A will be remembered by citizens of country A as a great, courageous and nationalistic figure, yet remembered by country B as a war criminal who's responsible for the murder of thousands of life.
@@risu2312 Imagine summoning Christopher Columbus. Americans saw this dude as a seafaring hero and celebrated him until recent years. But now people are waking up to his atrocious acts. Yet there are still people who've been indoctrinated into thinking the guy is a hero. Thus, 2 sides of a story was born.
@risu2312 maybe, how servants get different versions can be weird and their interactions even more so. Sometimes times they're treated as completely different people with different ideals, other times their treated as essentially the same person just with slightly different personality and age. Other times the variants literally can't see each other. So yes two versions of a servant could fight each other, or they simply won't or physically can't.
Hopefully this doesn't get drowned out or considered a "spoiler" but the female Musashi servant is not from the same world as the other servants. She is a very very unique situation in the entirety of Fate. BASICALLY... don't think about her too hard. Do not try to apply anything about her to your understanding of the other characters.
So the other servants are supposed to be from the same world? Didn't seem to be implied so far. Are they normally expected to all come from the same world, since you say it's a unique situation? (I know the series is already over and I'm late to the party just binging it, sorry)
One of the fun parts of experiencing a new Fate thing is guessing what historical figures the servants are, one hint being what class each one is. To help with guessing here's a cheat sheet on the class requirements that Servants must have met in their lives/legends. Saber, Lancer, and Archer: Must be a proficient with a sword, polearm, or non-magic based projectile weapon respectively or the weapon is so iconic for that individual that you can't imagine them without it. Rider: Must have some relation with a mount/vehicle. Caster: Must have been able to do any level of magecraft. (Writing and Science count as magecraft too) Assassin: Must have killed someone in a relatively stealthy way or have a heavy association with death. Berserker: Must have given into emotion and resorted to violence or be hard to reason with. Note: Royalty and Gods can be any class they want even if they don't meet the requirements. Note Note: These rules don't mean shit during the mobile game's summer events.
@@levleone4045coz "Assassin" is a replacement name for the class. It supposedly called "killer" to complete with the rest of class nomenclature (saber, lancer, rider, caster, etc) but Hassan and Assassin word itself held such strong conceptual aspect it replace the class name and the class is exclusively reserved for Hassan and his order/variant (in the OG HGW anyway)
@@BironBironBiron thats just fanon. well the killer part. the hassan being the only real assassin capable of being summoned in the fuyuki system is true.
Saber: I’m ready to go! Iori: Alright lets.........did you dye your hair blond? Saber: Yep. Iori: .......Why? Saber: It’s my Halloween costume! Iori: Who are you suppose to be? Saber: I’m Saber! Iori: ........but you’re already Saber. Saber: Yep. Iori: and dyeing your hair blond makes you........ Saber? Saber: Correct. Iori: ......... I........ I don’t understand. Saber: You will one day.
Nico: I’m so confused! Me: Come on man, it’s not that high concept. Red Archer: You think this is high concept? Let’s talk about the moon. Blue Saber: You be quiet about the moon. Nico: WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE!?
So. Let's talk about Musashi. I'll be as spoiler-free as I can. Musashi was introduced in the mobile game Fate/Grand Order. She is very unique as far as characters in this universe go. She is able to travel across parallel worlds, however, not by choice. Any world she ends up in will eventually reject and eject her presence. Even her original world is lost to her at this point and she will never be able to go back. You can tell she's been around by how she's picked up so much different terminology. She lived her life pretty much the exact same way as the male Musashi, and as Iori notes, they're basically the same person the only difference being gender. As far as we and Musashi are aware, she is the only female variant of him. Every world she ends up in has a male Musashi who lived in it. She spends her new life travelling different worlds fighting strong opponents and honing her sword skills to master the Niten Ichiryu (Way of Two Swords). That is until she comes across the main character of Fate/Grand Order. I won't say how we know but we know for certain that this version of her is after she meets the FGO protag. PS - She is a massive fan favourite character (she's like top 5 for me easily) and even got a statue for the special edition of this game and good God it looks fantastic. PPS - Her regular Class is Saber. She does have another Berserker variant but that's a swimsuit version of her. Fun fact: her moveset in this game borrows attacks and animations from both her FGO classes.
Don’t forget to mention summer Musashi’s in an American flag print bikini and dual wields gunblades. I feel like that’s a very important piece of lore to know.
You may have heard Saber say that Servants say they come from the distant past, but she didn't say it was *your* distant past. The Nasuverse runs on multiverse theory and some worlds are further ahead than others to the point that some servants can be summoned from alternate history or worse (for the challenger), a time that counts as the future.
To put it as simple as I can. How servants actually works is that they are called from a place from beyond time and space. So basically there can be multiple versions of the same person to be summoned (Variants of the same legends, or in this case from different timeline). Musashi here is an example of it, the one summoned is from a different timeline where Musashi is a girl, but in Iori's timeline his Musashi is male. Edit: Also True Name is extremely important because a servant's story have a huge impact on how their power and weaknesses works, and as an important figure you know way much more about them than they know about you, including their notorious weakness. Also how they die became their weakness as a servant, especially if it's particularly infamous. So as an example for the former, Achilles and his heels, if he tells you his True Name you'd know to go for it. For the latter case, Queen Medb from Irish Mythology having weakness to cheese as a servant because she's killed by it in life.
Servants keep their identities hidden because knowing who they are gives you an advantage. For example, one of the Things about Servants is they have weaknesses against the things that killed them when they were alive. Imagine if you were fighting against Achilles. If you know who he is, you know that you have to aim for his heel if you want to beat him.
I think the best way to compare Masters and Servants would be to Drivers and Blades from Xenoblade 2. Normally Drivers are weaker than Blades and they rely on their Blade's power to battle. At the same time a Blade needs a Driver to exist just like how a Servant needs a Master to live in the present world. There's a lot of similarities when you think about it like that. Plus Blades and Servants for some reason are hot as shit
There 4 types of gender bending in Fate. 1. You were always a woman but history remembers you as a man. This one is the most common. 2. You are summoned as a woman because of you were speculated to be a woman in disguise. This one doesn’t really happen all too often. 3. You have an Eldritch God as a patron. This only applies to some Servants in the Foreigner Class who aren’t in this game. 4. You are an alternate universe counterpart of a someone else. Musashi fits into this category and it’s been slowly becoming more common in the past few years. Also fun fact: There’s only been one instance of a female being summoned as a male and it was a horse named Red Hare.
You forgot "you lived and died as a man, but you figured out that a spirit can look however they want, so you crafted your appearance into your ideal self which happens to be a woman" or "you're actually a woman who the original male character happened to know in life, like a daughter or wife, either being summoned along with the male character, or taking their place". And probably a few more that I'm not remembering.
There's also "the embodiment of a woman is part of your legacy so genderbending is allowed/enforced anyway" Like Da Vinci's magnum opus is Mona Lisa so he literally becomes her, or Caenis's natural state is a woman, they just were mortal as a man.
Actually when Musashi says Iori was born in the wrong times, I think she’s saying he should’ve lived in an era where samurais are more valued, when honor and valor carried more weight, as Tokugawa shogunate was taking power away from the warrior class and ruronins were increasing. Unfortunately, that would also mean he would be in an era where there would be conflict. That’s how I interpreted it at least but if someone has different thoughts would love to hear it!
I'm thinking its specifically because it is a peaceful time. I'm banking on a twist where Iori craves the fight to prove himself. So its the wrong generation, not because Samurai aren't valued, but because its too peaceful. That would add an interesting twist to his character.
This series is the highlight of my day whenever a new episode comes up. And yeah, Nico, you hit the nail on the head with the 'True Name' thing - if you face Achilles and you know you're fighting Achilles, then you know to go for the heel. If you're fighting Siegried, if you do your homework you know he has a bare patch of skin on his back you can jam a spear into. For some Servants it doesn't really matter, but for others it's critical to keep that sort of thing secret.
I have to say I find Iori's and Musashi's relationship endearing. They just GET each other's wants and needs even though they are not the same version of each other the other knew. Even though Musashi says they(both Musashi) didnt take in Iori out of love there is a fondness for him that undeniable.
Their is something sweet about Iori looking at a seemingly diffrent Person but just from the Sword style goes "Yes, this is the man who raised me, 100%"
One thing worth knowing for the future is that when the Digression is about to expire, because you're about to progress the story, its name turns red. The game also gives you a nice reminder with a notification, so overall, I recommend doing these side quests ASAP... aside from the Mountain Dew haired guy at the moment, you can manage, but I'd recommend getting a bit stronger first.
Iori: So there's Seven Classes. Masushi: Yup! I guess there's some exceptions, but yup! Iori: Hmm, but what about a Heroic Spirit known for using a shield? Some kinda "Shielder" or som-- Musashi: [grabbing Iori by the shoulders] Listen, if I explain every single Extra Class and Gag Character this series has ever had, we would be here for a _very_ long time. Iori: ...Got it, there's Seven Classes of Heroic Spirt.
@@vivalaglavii6736 Yes, and they often have shields, they just get slotted into the regular seven. If anything, it's atypical having a Servant who can use a shield, but literally nothing else.
Musashi: Hey Iori, what's that? Iori: What's what? Musashi: *TIGER DROP!* Iori: DAAUUUUUGHHHH- For those of you who don't know, there's a Japan only Yakuza spin-off called Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan (or Like a Dragon Kenzan if you prefer), where you play as Miyamoto Musashi who suspiciously looks and sounds a lot like Kiryu, and of course in that game you meet an ancestor of Komaki
@@barneypurple3435 Late, but Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan was made before Yakuza 3 and was the first game in the LaD/Yakuza/RGG series to come to PS3, it has a marginally similar premise to Ishin in that you go back in time and play as a samurai who looks and sounds like Kiryu, but they're pretty different... Although, it's actually more accurate to say that Kiryu looks like Miyamoto Musashi, since Kenzan was the first in the HD generation, and thus Musashi/Kiryu doesn't have a rather bad case of "PS2 game that's trying to look like real life"-face.
Fun fact: The main artist for this game, Rei Wataru, is also the artist for one of the on-going manga adaptations of one of Epic of Remnant chapters in Fate/Grand Order game, and in that particular one Musashi is the protagonist's main ally (as a Saber). They actually took a break on that to work on this game in fact. No spoilers beyond that, but their work in that manga is raw as all hell and perfectly captures the tone in that chapter. They're one of my favorite artists involved in the Fate franchise for that very reason.
Mushashi: I've taken quite a liking to foreign things! Nicole and Ioro: The hell does that even mean?! Mushashi: Jet skiis and Star Spangled Bikinis! Iori: (confused) Nico: (confused and flabbergasted) Saber: (confused and hungry) [And no, I'm not making that up. Welcome to Fate Nico.]
The lore of this game is pretty consistent with every Fate series. Instead of the Waxing Moon, it's the Holy Grail, but otherwise it's pretty consistent. Seven Masters summon seven Servants and fight over a wish granter, the Command Spells, all of that is consistent. There are some times when there are more than seven Servants and Masters, but those are very rare. The Rogue Servants are not normal. There generally are not rogue masterless Servants.
Holy grail war's by itself is pretty rare in their world and we having more than seven servant's in every Fate exept Zero and Type Redline.I think it's actually a fourth fate series where we have two set's of ordinary class servant's and one extra class.(Apocrypha,Strange/Fake,Prototupe and now Samurai/Remnant)
@@алексейпугачев-л9й Yeah but it's always an exception, it's not supposed to be that way. The funny thing about Fate is that Fate has all these.rules but there's always an asterisk and 20 exceptions, and people cheat all the time so the rules never actually get.followed
You can hear the gears much more louder than in most LPs, more so than those where Nico has to think and deduct. This will be in fact, the LP that will do it in for him. Mind, spirit and in the future, his wallet.
11:12 - 11:14 YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW THE HALF OF IT, but rest easy Nico, for the Fate Fandom has acquired these wise words that are stemmed very high by all..."Don't worry about it"
Man the past couple of days for Iori have gotta be the most confusing days of his life. He's participating in a battle royale he didn't want to be a part of, He's got a new sassy roommate who doesn't like him much, his house is now a mage's fortress, and to top it all off his dead master comes back as a girl. Can we give this man a round of applause for taking all of this in stride? Because I think most of us would've probably checked out of reality after all that. Incidently, I think what makes Iori and Saber's relationship so interesting and engaging is that Iori's stoic attitude really feels sort of fresh. You'd expect most protagonists to be screaming and panicking about their life being turned upside down. But Iori is just like: "ok this is happening now..." him just taking everything as it comes without batting an eye kinda makes how he interacts with Saber kind of endearing.
Dayu: *During the ritual summon* I call upon a female servant who has the strength of Miyamoto Musashi and as strong as he is. Female Musashi: Hi there! I'm Musashi Miyamoto! Are you my master? Dayu: *Thinks to herself* Dammit! I knew I should stop reading those fanfictions of him...
12:48 I know pretty much a lot of people say that most Fate do not connect to each other and at least conceptually you can start with any of them, especially this one. However the reason why this part might sound so confusing is because this might be an exception as this Musashi is actually the same Musashi from Fate/Grand Order, without spoiling what its already mentioned here, That Musashi can drift to other worlds and goes in and out that story, this is the same one during one of those drifts. The point is pretty much the exact same as F/SR explains it, her name is Miyamoto Musashi, she was born female and for the most part lived the same life as the old man on the beginning of the game, she died and was summoned as a servant.
Nico: "I don't get why revealing your name is bad, can they just look you up in the history books and go "Ha! Your secret weakness is so and so or something!" You hit the nail on the head their Nico, most servants actually have a weakness to the thing that killed them in life. Striking Achilles in his heel and stabbing Siegfried in the back works because that's how they died. A more hilarious example is Medb a servant from FGO who died from a dude using a slingshot to hurl a lump of hard cheese that killed her, so now an ordinary human can run up to her and throw some cheese at her and it hits her she dies. Finally about Christopher Columbus being a hot slaving racist asshole, yes that is a thing (without the hot part). In his debut event he actually pretends to have amnesia and goes by 'rider of resistance' because if anyone figured out his name they wouldn't trust him at all, fate did nothing to whitewash him at all.
since you were wondering when doing that rogue berserker digression, you can see if a Digression is going to vanish if its title is red, that means it will vanish with the next main story objective
Heroic Spirits do look like how they did in life (at least in the game continuity, very few of them look anything like how they looked in real life). It's not that you die and come back looking like whoever. Musashi is a unique case because she came from an alternate universe, because there's a lot of Fate alternate universes. It's probably that most Spirits come from alternate universes, but very rarely do they come back so soon after their death so nobody really.knows. Musashi didn't turn into a woman, she always was one in her universe. She's just been summoned to this one somehow
We're about thirty minutes in the video, and Nico's brain just nearly exploded from all the lore drops in this game. It will be a miracle if he manages to retain any of this info should he play the next Fate game in another year or so.
Iori: 'Saber, look at the cute dog. Saber? your missing out...' *uses command seal* Saber:'WTF, Iori, we just learned how important those seals are. You can't-' Iori:'Saber, look at the cute dog' Saber:'...omg you're right, the dog is cute. Thank you for calling me over immediately. This was worth it' Dayu:'....what is wrong with you two...'
Nico: "Wait so they are they saying there is a muliverse?" Indeed! Through this rule every single Fate/ game, anime, light novel, and visual novel is canon to each other. With all of the unique circumstances of these worlds not interfering with the other timelines. That includes the bad endings! So every game over is a univerese where Iori bites the dust! So really, the true objective of all Fate/ media: Survive
The learning curve in this game for a beginner can be a bit rough at first because of Musashi's uniqueness, but it seems like you mostly got it. She is, as admitted by the game's producer in an interview, the reason this game exists. He's a big fan of her in Grand Order (the gacha game) to the point of wanting to make a game featuring her. As part of that, she is canonically confirmed to be the exact same character as the one in the gacha game, thanks to her unique characteristic of traveling through timelines. It's amazing how Iori is able to recognize her as Musashi just from using the same sword style. The link between master and student going beyond gender, age, and anime wackiness. One clarification on that note: while you were understandably mistaken at first about her being the old man turned woman, there's a small amount of servants that CAN do that. As their bodies are basically a projection of their soul, they can be manifested in forms different from the ones when they were alive. Generally they just look like they did in the prime of their life, but their class, personality, and unique summoning circumstances can influence that to the point of looking not very historically accurate. A key thing to understand with Fate as a whole is that its goal isn't to be as historically/mythologically accurate as possible but instead to create an interesting take on those characters by intentionally introducing changes. Sometimes the results are really cool, sometimes not so much. Depends on the writer and the amount of fanservice.
Random Fate Trivia #2 This particular random trivia has to do something with Kinoko Nasu. He's the co-founder of Type Moon and the author of the original Fate/Stay Night. He actually likes to play souls games! Not particularly because it's fun, it's certainly a big part of it. No, he plays them because he would now have an excuse to delay his works. Oh and if he really could put anything from FromSoftware's games, he would definitely make a Hunter be canon to the Fate series, haha.
Nico, i believe the most straightforward way to understand the "weakness" of servant is to think in their story like an rpg boss Example, Aquiles was an unbeateable warrior, someone that nobody could defeat in a real fight, except for a singular point of his body( and a very well know all over the world) In fate, the more know a history of a heroic spirit the stronger it is... But the easier it gets to know the method behind his attacks... Or Even worse, a weakness that they can't do nothing about
I'm sure everyone will give you a shit ton of information on Musashi, so instead let's briefly talk about her master, Takao Dayu. Like Iori, she's based on a real person, and was a really popular courtesan at the time. So much that she has fictional stories about her life and death. Anything else may be considered a spoiler even if it doesn't happen in the game so I'll make another comment about Takao later on
Female musashi time! She’s extremely popular, the reason this game exists, an enigma even among the genderbent characters and absolutely waifu material. Shes best girl for great reason
Pretty sure she isn't the reason this game exists. Weren't she basically released while this game was being developed (she even mentioned Iori in some lines too)?
@@deathcon6261 No, she existed *much* before this game’s development, she has lines involving iori because iori is a real person just like musashi, and they had a similar relationship in real history, thats why those lines are given, to show the character is the actual person from history with a twist. She is the reason this game was created because the developers wanted to create a fate musuo around her era both due to her popularity and belovedness and then the project had different alterations along the way, this is why the protagonist is the mentioned adopted son of musashi. If she wasn’t as popular as she was this game wasn’t going to be revolved around Iori or even this current placement in time.
@@deathcon6261she’s def a reason. If she wasn’t so popular then they wouldn’t have used her as a main part of the advertising. Also, she was released In FGO in 2017
So when a normal enemy glows red, that's when you can use a heavy attack to interrupt them. But if it's a boss or monster that starts glowing with the red and black lightning, you can only interrupt them with an affinity attack/move with Saber or a spell using Gems.
Nico, when it comes to the lore, don't worry about it if you don't understand something. It does get explain in more detail in other places. I will do a quick explanation of the Heroic spirit concept, basically people who have left an impact on earth (Major or minor) often gets their soul or impact written into the earth as a self-defense force, the Ritual basically tricks the defenses force to summon the figure in this form. It's not their true body, it's their "Ghost" body powered by their soul.
The Fate series has a ton going on to justify the amazing and sexy (and not sexy) creative choices. Usually history forgot the truth. Sometimes, like Iori's master, someone hopped the World Lines. Or maybe someone hallucinated really really hard while summoning their Servant and things got borked.
When enemies with Shell gauges start glowing red, Iori can't interrupt them. You're correct that the red attacks can be interrupted, but only normal enemies can be interrupted by a heavy attack. To interrupt the red attack of an enemy wiht a Shell gauge, you have to use one of your Servant's skills.
The 1st OST you hear after loading and talking to Musashi was actually hurting my heart. Like reaaaaaaally painfully. Like twisting a knife into my heart. *Sniff sniff...* so many memories... Also, yes, you picket it up real fast, Yes the multiverse and different timelines are a real thing. PS. The best example for explaining the True Name knowledge is this. Let's say you're fighting Achilles, so you know his weakness is his heel. As it's so well know around the world. 'Achilles heel'
LORE DUMP TIME! I know it may seem overwhelming but just remember a good chunk of it is just set dressing and its really the characters themselves that matter at the end of the day when it comes to Fate works. So here's hoping you like them by the end! Also yes the pacing is slow at the start and I was worried it would affect you enjoyment but it does pick up by the end of chapter 1 so we luckily wont be in tutorial land for much longer! Happy to hear you're still engaged despite all that!
regarding the character's stats - just note that the first Fate game was a visual novel without any combat - yet it still had character sheets for all the servants. Yup, they created multiple character sheets including stats, skills, abilities and weapons in a game where none of it was relevant to the player.
@@silentnight6810 obviously. It's also could be relevant to the storytelling. As they made the characters' stats, they knew how to use them for the battles.
Nico, let me tell you something. The rules for the ritual (Holy Grail War in the animes and visual novels, Waxing Moon Ritual here) are all one-to-one in any continuity, so if you're told the rules in one medium, you should know them across all mediums.
Except that's not true at all. Rituals set up by different people can have different rules. For example, FSN, Extra, Apocrypha, Samurai Remnant, and Strange Fake all have different rules. Not even the original keeps to the 7 Servant setup.
So, since people are already explaining what Fem Musashi is about, I figured I'd add in a quick bit of lore about Heroic Spirits/Servants that the game (as far as I've experienced from playing) hasn't delved into much. So, to put it simply, there is a record of any and every major figure in human history. That could be from myths, legends, folklore, or actual history. So long as they had a significant impact on humanity or the culture they were apart of and are considered human in some shape or form, they are likely within these records. these records exist across pretty much all universes as well. So you can dozens of versions of one given person within these records depending on the different variations of their stories as well as the alterations from one timeline to another (Which can include different classes for them to be summoned in). The ritual they are apart of basically allows those who do so to summon the recordings of these people. They aren't the real deal basically, but rather idolized versions of them given physical form. This also means different interpretations and variations do exist. While normally you can't summon versions from other universes, as Musashi herself states and plenty of others explain, she's kind of an exception. So effectively, she's just a different Musashi. Same person, history, and personality more or less, but she happens to be female. It's weird and very round about, but that's Fate for you. I hope that helps a bit with both Musashi and kind of understanding what's going on with the servants PS. The holy Grail is basically the OG ritual that this one is being based on. There are differences between the two but the general idea is the same. I'll let you discover what's different on your own though
16:32 you say that but that it is literally it a certain servent in fgo is very infamous with how they died by being hit with cheese in there legend and to actively train herself to parry it on instinct because they can be easily killed by it as a servant
Here is the thing about Fates it's multiverse has been a thing since the very beginning. And that is how Nasu handled the canonicity of the routes in vn. There is no like a true route, every route is canon.
The main thing to understand about Fate (and all of Kinoko Nasu's works) is that for every rule you learn, there are at least 10 exceptions to that rule. And it's not even just a "they're throwing out the rules so they can justify doing whatever they want" thing. No, sometimes they will literally establish exceptions without even using them for anything, just pointing out that they exist, and maybe making use of them like 10 spinoffs from now. They'll be like "All scrimblos are borblos, except for the brimblos, we don't talk about those" and then it just never comes up again.
Fun fact: Some servants are like Musashi, being hot and beautiful women, like Nero Claudius, Attila the Hun and more. The fact that they are from different worlds is astounding as that could mean that in another universe, we could be an opposite gender, but still have their history written.
"Foreign things, what are you referring to?!" Mmmm, I dunno.... For all we know, she could be talking about how she accidentally created a casino world in Las Vegas, put on a USA-Flag Bikini and decided to dual wield gunblades parading around as her student... But that's impossible! There's no way a Summer Musashi existed if you looked her up!
Nico: I'm feeling gaslit by this game's entire lore Me: Ah yes, you have just had another "Welcome to Fate" moment. So, full disclosure: Fate's lore IS actually quite complicated given that the rules of the Waxing Moon Ritual (this game's version of the commonly known Holy Grail War) are constantly broken and rewritten even in the mainline titles. However, what tends to stay consistent is the Throne, where the information of all Heroic Spirits (Servants) is contained for the ritual. But because history can be messy and written by the winners (along with the multiple timelines you actually mentioned being a thing in Fate and, you know, anime BS), almost everything about a Heroic Spirit can be up to debate: Age, Gender, Classes they qualify for, what myths are referenced, etc. So Musashi being a female is not only quite typical for Fate (as its the ONLY depiction she has in the Fate universe), it happens far more often than you'd believe. Easiest example to explain this is Leonardo Da Vinci: She's a female Caster Servant modeled heavily after the Mona Lisa, and in Fate canon he said she was the "ideal beauty" he chased and was omnipotent to his existence as a Heroic Spirit thanks to people believing he was. Thus, the Heroic Spirit Da Vinci chose to be a woman. Furthermore, to answer your question of "How much of this game follows the rules of other Fate projects," I can say for now QUITE A BIT. The mark on Iori's hand is typically known as Command Seals, which follows the set rules. Along with the seven Servants and Masters, this game seems to really stick with the regular formula of HGWs. And while it isn't TECHNICALLY always the case, the main character summoning a Saber Servant is pretty common. I'm sure the game and others will explain more and more about the lore, but I hoped to aid you a bit with the stuff I'm familiar with PS: Funny you mention Columbus, because he IS a Servant in FGO. He's one of the creepiest men in the game (his boats even appear as women in bunny girl outfits) but he's very much terrible, not a good person, and typically unliked by the majority of major players. So you're safe from a female Columbus lol
If I broke down every FGO character who was an evil PoS and now an incredibly hot anime woman with big boobs and butt, we'd be here for literal hours lmao Nico mentioned Columbus in the video, thus my bringing him up lol
Its pretty cool how you can see time passing by the lighting outside the Window. It took the whole Day to explain the War and Servants to Iori! Guess it shows how complicated even the Basic rundown of a Holy Grail War is...
21:00 "Like, Christopher Columbus dies and comes back as the biggest, thiccest, bitch ever, but unfortunately he's still horrendously racist" Oh dear god, it's only been 3 episodes and Nico's bullshit powers are already guessing plot twists from OTHER Fate/ Stories. It seems that mixing his bullshit guessing powers with the bullshit dank lore of Fate/ is enough to generate a world ending apocalypse of beastly proportions. Run for your lives folks, for no hope of victory rema-
Don’t know if anyone mentioned it yet but just in case, that moment Musashi said amped wasn’t so much lost in translation as everyone around her not understanding English. During the time this game takes place Japan was in a very isolationist period where trade was limited from foreign powers to a handful of ports. Iori can only rationalize they said a Dutch word because that is the closest language they can come up with since Japan has been trading with the Dutch. It’s also been that way whenever Saber has been mentioning the Classes or Masters & Servants as well; Iori just has been rolling with things and putting (to him) made up words to faces as they come or Saber had mentioned a word that got the meaning across (ex. Master=Summoner). This sucks for FMusashi as she loves peppering her speech with English and turns of phrase from other cultures. 😂
Imagine summoning a Heroic Spirit from an era where social media was already invented and preserved. All you have to do to find out about this servant's identity is cross reference their physical appearance, attitude and interests to find their Xwitter account. "Ah yes, that servant's weakness is getting cancelled by haters on Xwitter."
Just started playing this game the other day. I'm actually enjoying the game, much like how i enjoyed P5 Strikers after being skeptical of it. This fact makes me very scared.
Your basically right about the lore basically being the same in most of the games, at least the basic lore. At least for the Fate Series. Tsukihime and Kara No Kyokai are different, though, but I'm sure you'll cross that bridge when you get to them
That 40 minute lore dump by Takao is pretty infamous by now. What this game secretly does not tell you is that it's actually part VN! ...or at least has cutscenes as long as many of them. The first Berserker Digression is pretty rude unfortunately. Most of the future ones aren't remotely as bad but it's a rough introduction to that mechanic.
I find it interesting that Saber doesn't understand a lot of things due to them being from the past. Usually, servants gain knowledge about the era they've been summon to.
Due to the wibbly wobbly timey wimey shenanigans of the Throne of Heroes, the metaphysical space/repository where heroic spirits are stored, it's also actually entirely possible to summon a heroic spirit from the future (as in, they have not died and become a hero yet in the time period the summoner lives in). It's rare, however, as the outcome of a summoning is normally influenced by nearby persons or objects with ties to the hero, serving as a catalyst. And someone born like, 500 years later or something naturally wouldn't have much laying around for you to work with; someone else will almost always end up with priority. But it _can_ happen given some circumstances. On that note, they're addressing Yui Shousetsu as male not because of their totally not feminine looks, but because women of this era almost certainly barely have rights, much less be trained in the sword. Female Musashi actually did get disowned at a young age, I believe, and the thought of getting back at her father threw more fuel on her fire to perfect her skills.
I like how Servant!Musashi being a woman is the second thing Iori notices. To reiterate a common example, Servant!Superman would have a glaring weakness to magic. It's not actually a weakness (magic simply ignores his invulnerability and affects him like it would a normal human), but everyone treats it as one out of universe. That misunderstanding would be refected in his legend as a true weakness.
After seeing how often Achille's name is brought up in the comments, I can imagine why he'd lie about his name, if he ended up as NicoB's servant. Only question is, which name would he pick?
I think my favorite part about watching nico play a fate game is seeing him getting a character's gender reverse uno'd on him every like 3rd character 😂
I love how Musashi is basically just Fate fans trying to explain the series lore while Nico's brain melts with each sentence. So, the thing with knowing the True Name of a Servant is that it helps you strategise on how to deal with them in a fight. Think of it like having the wiki page of a boss fight in an rpg up. You know exactly how they fight, what strategies they use, and what weaknesses they have, so you can plan specifically around them. Versus not knowing it, where you mainly just play it safe and adopt a more general strategy in a fight. That's basically what learning the True Name does, it's not an immediate win but it does gives one side a better idea on how to pull a win.
To answer some questions: 1. The Command Spells are, in fact, common throughout any Fate franchise and it functions exactly the same as stated by the lady. 2. Yes, overall, the masters are always weaker than their Servants 3. Yes, there are several cases of Servants having different genders in fate than of the historical/mythological figure they represent
Hearing Nico continue to merge Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Grand Order into Fate/Stay GO hurts my soul each time. Clearly his research into the series before starting was brief. 😂
Watching Nico’s brain melt from this lore’s pain train is pure entertainment. I thought KH was bad with convoluted lore dumps but Fate is on an entirely new plane of existence.
Servants hide their names because if you know their name, then you know their legend and, by extension, their weaknesses. For example; if you were fighting Achilles, then knowing who he is means you know why your attacks aren't doing anything and where to aim.
This lore is melting my brain.
Yeah thats normal
And this is only the beggining.Happy Haloween! MWAHAAAAAA!!!
so in a good or bad way?
Welcome to fate series
We did warn you
"I don't get why revealing your name is bad, can they just look you up in thenhistory books and go 'aha your secret weakness is so and so' or something"
Yes, actually. That's exactly it. If you know your opponents identity, you know their strengths and weaknesses. You know who they are, why they fight, often how they died.
For instance, if one were to summon Achilles, your enemies wouldn't know how to beat him because he's invincible. But if Achilles named himself, all of a sudden they would know how to kill him, by striking at his heel.
plus they can figure out ways around your Noble Phantasm if thy knew your identity.
Which is why Masters will in some cases vandalize and steal records. Though in this era the information isn't very well preserved to begin with.
@@алексейпугачев-л9й in return however the japanese servants get a popularity boost from being in Japan

Fun trivia: this entire game exists because the Koei Tecmo CEO played Fate/Grand Order and the female Musashi was his favorite character.

Ooo so you're saying in one of the fate series, the "good" version and the "bad" version fight each other?
@@risu2312 I'm not the most well versed in all things Fate, but the point is that a Heroic Spirit can be summoned as the basic version or the dark ominous version depending on the conditions of summoning.
This is mostly to how different groups of people, race, or country view different historical figures.
Example :
A war hero from country A will be remembered by citizens of country A as a great, courageous and nationalistic figure, yet remembered by country B as a war criminal who's responsible for the murder of thousands of life.
@risu2312 we usally have Saber, then we evil version usally refered to as Alter Saber

(Writing and Science count as magecraft too)
Assassin: Must have killed someone in a relatively stealthy way or have a heavy association with death.
Berserker: Must have given into emotion and resorted to violence or be hard to reason with.
Note: Royalty and Gods can be any class they want even if they don't meet the requirements.
Note Note: These rules don't mean shit during the mobile game's summer events.
Assassin also includes espionage people who did not kill, despite the class name
The Archer Class is made up of Archers

Red Archer: You think this is high concept? Let’s
talk about the moon.
To add to that Musashi is one of the 3 big heroines in FGO, along with Mash and Castoria.
Yeah she sure is.
So she's basically a female gilgamesh?(from final fantasy)
@@sbfh014 God I hope one day we get a female Gilgamesh….
Or Okita Souji's poor constitution as a Servant because of their well known health issues in life
Random fun fact, Nico:
Musashi there thinks that the ideal Valentine's Day date is to take you to Hooters.
Based.
Iori: So why are you now a hot young woman Master?
Musashi: Fanart and merchandise Iori. Fanart and merchandise.
Nico will soon come to realise that Fate practically invented genderbending, especially when it comes to historical figures.
nah that honor has to go to ranma saotome
@@ridewild1956Ah Ranma 1/2, some folks probably had a thing for female Ranma lol.
Eu senki did it first
Meanwhile, here I'm wondering how would Nico react to the Fate incarnation of Van Gogh and like half of the other Foreigner servants
@@KhanhNguyen-mh5ec Eiyuu Senki, in fact, did not even remotely do it first. Like a decade afterwards.
Also you’re a guy but through your dumbassness your dumbass or magic, you turn girl.
There's also "the embodiment of a woman is part of your legacy so genderbending is allowed/enforced anyway"
Like Da Vinci's magnum opus is Mona Lisa so he literally becomes her, or Caenis's natural state is a woman, they just were mortal as a man.
Or have women feed dogs to Cú Chulainn
Or go super-barber on Samson...
Fun Fate Fact: In Fate Grand Order, Yes, Columbus comes back, and Yes, he still IS an absolutely terrible human being!

Musashi: By the way, Iori, you can totally call me Mommy!

Fate is just gonna have to be renamed “Nico’s Sexuality Confusion Spectacular” at this point
We're about thirty minutes in the video, and Nico's brain just nearly exploded from all the lore drops in this game. It will be a miracle if he manages to retain any of this info should he play the next Fate game in another year or so.
Iori: 'Saber, look at the cute dog. Saber? your missing out...' *uses command seal*
Saber:'WTF, Iori, we just learned how important those seals are. You can't-'
Iori:'Saber, look at the cute dog'
Saber:'...omg you're right, the dog is cute. Thank you for calling me over immediately. This was worth it'
Dayu:'....what is wrong with you two...'
Nico: "Wait so they are they saying there is a muliverse?"
Indeed!
Random Fate Trivia #2
This particular random trivia has to do something with Kinoko Nasu.
I think we need a “What?!” Counter for whenever Nico’s brain gets mind f*cked at this point.
Nico, i believe the most straightforward way to understand the "weakness" of servant is to think in their story like an rpg boss
Example, Aquiles was an unbeateable warrior, someone that nobody could defeat in a real fight, except for a singular point of his body( and a very well know all over the world)
In fate, the more know a history of a heroic spirit the stronger it is...
Also, she was released In FGO in 2017
@@streetgamer3452 yeah this game was first announced in 2022, to say that a character released in 2017 was during development… no lmao
And not to forget in FGO she has two version.
So when a normal enemy glows red, that's when you can use a heavy attack to interrupt them. But if it's a boss or monster that starts glowing with the red and black lightning, you can only interrupt them with an affinity attack/move with Saber or a spell using Gems.
16:31 Fun fact Nico B, that's how you defeat servants if you are under the servants power level.
I'm greatly enjoying seeing Nico's brain melt, but it's especially hilarious compared with how Iori takes everything in stride.
Musashi trying to explain multiverse 200+ years before the theory is equal to me trying to explain anything to my 5 yo kid 😂
It's fun need stuff and it's great.
@@AusSPThey share a loose framework that can be understood before considering changes
@@joelsasmad Which is not the same as "one to one in any continuity". They share a basic premise where all of the precise rules are subject to change.
I hope that helps a bit with both Musashi and kind of understanding what's going on with the servants
PS.
Including all he routes shirou horribly dies.
Nico Iori and Saber have costumes (Iori's one is realy cool), but at this moment you have to buy the season pass to get it.
20:53 Yes, that's all od them. Also Christopher Columbus is still a piece of work. He does look cuter when he's younger.
Nicob: they know what they're doing!
The fans looking at Fate Grand Carnival once again: Yeah they know us really well.
Somehow this Musashi is more disturbing than the one that trained Iori to kill him, and that says something.
He’s also rumor to be after young boys
@@KhanhNguyen-mh5ec Ah, a discord user. I see.
Fun fact: Some servants are like Musashi, being hot and beautiful women, like Nero Claudius, Attila the Hun and more. The fact that they are from different worlds is astounding as that could mean that in another universe, we could be an opposite gender, but still have their history written.
"Foreign things, what are you referring to?!"
Mmmm, I dunno.... For all we know, she could be talking about how she accidentally created a casino world in Las Vegas, put on a USA-Flag Bikini and decided to dual wield gunblades parading around as her student...
But that's impossible! There's no way a Summer Musashi existed if you looked her up!
Shell gauge enemies with red attacks can still have their attacks interrupted (other than riposte) with a timely affinity technique
Nico: I'm feeling gaslit by this game's entire lore
Me: Ah yes, you have just had another "Welcome to Fate" moment.
I'm sure the game and others will explain more and more about the lore, but I hoped to aid you a bit with the stuff I'm familiar with
PS: Funny you mention Columbus, because he IS a Servant in FGO. He's one of the creepiest men in the game (his boats even appear as women in bunny girl outfits) but he's very much terrible, not a good person, and typically unliked by the majority of major players. So you're safe from a female Columbus lol
...Yet Francis Drake is a big Booba anime girl and a hero ...despite the RL counterpart also being an evil slaver.
If I broke down every FGO character who was an evil PoS and now an incredibly hot anime woman with big boobs and butt, we'd be here for literal hours lmao
Nico mentioned Columbus in the video, thus my bringing him up lol
@@MPBoosterAxel Fair
Its pretty cool how you can see time passing by the lighting outside the Window. It took the whole Day to explain the War and Servants to Iori! Guess it shows how complicated even the Basic rundown of a Holy Grail War is...
21:00
"Like, Christopher Columbus dies and comes back as the biggest, thiccest, bitch ever, but unfortunately he's still horrendously racist"
Oh dear god, it's only been 3 episodes and Nico's bullshit powers are already guessing plot twists from OTHER Fate/ Stories. It seems that mixing his bullshit guessing powers with the bullshit dank lore of Fate/ is enough to generate a world ending apocalypse of beastly proportions. Run for your lives folks, for no hope of victory rema-
I just now realized that what separates Saber Musashi from Berserker Musashi is the latter being a westerboo that occasionally speaks engrish.
20:58 Yep, usually it goes like this for almost all timelines.
27:02 Nico are you telling me you haven't played the epic mobile game Fate/Stay Go Grand Night Remnant Apocrypha Samurai Yes?
Featuring Vergil Dante and Nero from the devil may cry series.
Carrots Man?
Why did ‘deez nuts b’ popped into my mind for that?
Musashi is such a confusing character if you dont know her from FGO lmao
11:00 Nico you fool. Nomura is not the only writer capable of inventing crazy ass lore things
Fun fact Nico. Nasu is a dork and in his first fate work, he put stats there too. Also NP is Noble Phantasm
To answer some questions:
1. The Command Spells are, in fact, common throughout any Fate franchise and it functions exactly the same as stated by the lady.
2. Yes, overall, the masters are always weaker than their Servants
39:03 if i remember correctly normally in fate it is called the "Holy Grail war", but in this it is called the "Waxing Moon ritual".
Servants hide their names because if you know their name, then you know their legend and, by extension, their weaknesses. For example; if you were fighting Achilles, then knowing who he is means you know why your attacks aren't doing anything and where to aim.
We’re already hitting 1hr 48 minute episodes oh there is no way Nico’s ever escaping this is he
