Yes please stop the random musicians from keeping us from the video we came for
MsMojo I love you for number 1
@Pierre Buie II yes! i never like what i'm hearing
I should listen to that song thanks @Msmojo
One of my favorite feminist moments is from Crazy Rich Asians, when Astrid tells her cheating husband that the problem with their mariage was not her family's money but rather his cowardliness. "It's not my job to make you feel like a man. I can't make you something you're not."
:mic drop:
Yesss!! My fiance was in the room when i was watching that and was like oh damn!!
YESSSSSS I honestly don't think I will ever get enough of that movie, and that lady in particular. She is powerful
I re-watched CRA last night! I know exactly what you mean...I was cheering!
Guillem Martinez I’m so excited for the second movie cause it’s focused on Astrid! At least the book is.
What I love most about Legally Blond is that for the entire movie it's women supporting women. Yes Vivian takes awhile to come around but she realizes that Elle isn't the "enemy" she is completely on her side. I love movies when women support women.
Also as side note, this does not mean women cannot compete but it means that women do not need to tear each other down to get there.
And also that you can be a girlish pink lady in a man's world and still emerge. I love this message
It is a cringy film but it has a good message that I 100% agree with.
I don’t like how Elle is a characuture of femininity. She is the bimbo that men like to think that women are, but women only act like that intentionally not to intimidate men.
Completely missed Ever After. She rescues not only herself but him at one point as well. For a version of Cinderella that is momentous.
Yes, I concur, Danielle refuses to be a damsel in distress, but her quick thinking helps her, and she doesn't rely on her love interest to save the day! 😍 Talk about progression!
I agree, but they probably didn't consider it fully romCOM, it's a romance with funny moments. Categories aside, Danielle is a feminist icon.
You must see it. It is so good! Anything with Angelica Huston and I am on board! Hope you get to see and enjoy it.
Katie Simmons no I’ve seen it. I’m saying they missed adding it to their list
Oh I gotcha. I am in the middle of the video now lol. That's a great one they missed, for sure. And Cinderella is my favorite Disney movie of all time. 😁
The moment when Kate Winslet gives her jerkish ex the heave go made me cheer. She finally gains gumption, and frees herself from a toxic cycle. You go, girl! 🎊
Trina Q same don’t mess with Kate winslet
She showed him where his place is.
That moment when she says "shush!", it was amazing
My favorite part of the movie!
GUMPTION
Don't forget "Isn't it romantic"! The moment where the main character realizes what she needed the whole time was to love herself, instead of waiting for someone to love her, which gave her the courage to stand up for herself in her workplace and show everyone how talented she was... Such an empowering moment!
I love the moment when Iris tells off Jasper. Especially when she tells him to, "SHUSH!"
I love when Amanda tells off her ex especially when she punches him in the face
And let’s not forget when Elle helped Pauline get her dog back from her terrible ex. That was a hilarious scene
I actually loved all the women in Crazy Rich Asians. I think Astrid standing up to her now ex husband really put him in his place and was a strong statement. She was married to a man who came from nothing and she felt because she was richer than him, she had to hide her wealth from both gender and racial reasons. After coming to terms with their divorce, she put him in his place after he tried doing the typical divorce practices (giving the woman the home while the man find another place). Instead she finally flexed her strong arm on him and reminded him that she will live in one of her many apartments and that he's not a man.
The whole 🎥 of legally blonde is such a classic.
"the Prince and Me", nearly the entire film, but mostly when she turns down being a princess to pursue her longstanding dream of becoming a doctor, and then him coming back and saying he'd support her.
Also, that scene from 'Hidden Figures' when Taraji P Henson's character has had it with her boss. She brilliantly defended both her gender and her race.
Great scene, but not a romcom
My Big Fat Greek Wedding is one of the greatest movies ever made, so relatable and heartwarming. Toula mustering the courage to ask her dad for education was a great moment because it led her to becoming happy in life. It's a great message how one decision in life can change everything. But it was done in a respectable way because her adad wasn't a villain just a typical loving Greek dad who was traditional.
Bend it like Beckham also brilliant movie, everyone should watch it at least once in their life.
My big fat greek wedding is indeed a very good movie. One of my favourites!
I’m a simple woman, I see Kate Winslet in the thumbnail. I click.
Me too! I love that movie!
I was just about to comment this 😂
Same. I'll watch anything she's in ❤️
Same
bruh same!!!!!!!!!!!1
Can we just.... appreciate these female characters??? These are great role models, too. Elle Woods has a really special place in my heart. Seriously. Great list, MsMojo!!! ⚡️❤️⚡️
I love the Holiday. I could see it evry day and nt be bored.
Absolutely!!
same!!
Love The Holiday it’s my favorite
Kate Winslet in "The Holiday" is a great character and I still cheer every time she finally dumps Jasper. :)
The Holiday is my favorite movie and Iris telling off Jasper is one of my favorite scenes!
Same and same tbh.
I love Torrance informing her boyfriend he’s not boyfriend material
I never really thought of Bend it Like Beckham as a rom-com. I think it's a straight up sports movie
What about The First Wives Club?!? That should be #1!
Just the "I'm Sorry!!!!" speech alone (from Diane Keaton) is worth being #1 on this list!!!
Is that a rom com? (I love the movie, but it is not very rom...more com)
I knew Legally Blonde was gonna be number one!!
Seriously, if Legally Blonde wasn't number one, people would riot. What is also a good point to mention is that Elle is one of the most feminine characters in Rom coms, being the ink loving, puppy carrying sorority sister. In any other movie, she'd either be the popular girl
villain or, if this was an early 2000's cartoon, discard the femininity to succeed. Instead, not only does she organically come to realise what makes her happy, but proves that there's no wrong way of being a woman.
I also like that the horror genre has also gone on a similar tangent like in the Happy Death Day movies where they get a character that would be the first to die in a movie and make it about her learning to be a better person and develop into one of the most beloved horror icons in the last decade.
I am glad that Bend it like Beckham was on here. When I was a kid, it was one of my favourite movies.
Christopher Bennett-Totally agree with everything you've said. Elle Woods has always been one of my favourite movie characters thanks to how she subverted viewers expectation of the popular beautiful dumb blonde trope that you see in so many teen comedies.
In any other teen movie Elle would have been the villain & Vivienne would have been the unpopular student she bullies. Instead Elle is incredibly sweet, kind & sticks up for the less popular students, while Vivienne & the other students are at first judgemental snobs who actively bully Elle when she arrives at Harvard because of her bright & bubbly personality, until they realise she's much smarter then they give her credit for.
Waiting to Exhale's Bernadette (played by Angela Bassett) snapping and realizing all the ways she's been used and abused by her husband and torching his belongings.
That is one of my favorite movie scenes ever!! I watch the movie pretty often and that scene is just always spectacular!
That’s not a rom com.
"For lack of a better word, shrew?!" for the description of Kat in 10 Things I Hate About You? Ummm...it is a reimagining of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew so that is actually the perfect word.
Thought the same thing lol!
Came here to say the same.
Discussing problematic themes. SMH.
It's Shakespeare, my dude.
1) Danielle rescues herself - Ever After
2) The Whole Movie - Legally Blonde
3) Torrance dumping Aaron - Bring It On
4) "When you kiss someone" - Never Been Kissed
5) Iris' Speech to Jasper - The Holiday
I didn't like Legally Blonde the first time I watched it, but now it's one of my favorite movies. I love makeup and other "girly" things, but while getting my engineering degree I felt like I had to repress that side of me. I love seeing a traditionally feminine character who doesn't have to give up what she loves in order to be taken seriously; she lets her work speak for itself.
We PLEASE need a PART 2 list. I agree with so many suggestions for additional women: Ever After, First Wives Club, Astrid from Crazy Rich Asians (and Paik Lin!), Giselle, and how about Milan, Rapunzel and Merida? Or Wonder Woman? So many great choices!
Cher waiting till she finds the right person and lara Jean being herself despite her boyfriend being popular inspired me
10:44 At first it feels like a simple romantic comedy, then it looks like a feminist cinema. 👍
So,... I guess I don't know what feminism is. Is it feminist moments or moments of women standing up for themselves? Are they the same thing?
Yes yes they are the same thing :)
That's a good question. So many times women are feminists just being themselves, but often times we do express it by standing up for ourselves. IRL it may be not letting men talk over us in meetings, stopping a mansplain in its tracks, or insisting we get the credit due us. Movies require conflict to move the story forward, and in the rom-com this is often represented by that moment when a woman just lays it out on the table. I suppose feminism looks different to every feminist. TBH, I love a good "stand up for herself" moment in any rom-com.
@@DarrolandTracey how do you define "a mansplain"?

When Legally Blonde came out, I was in my mid teens. I adored this movie about a young woman that stayed true to herself. I still have the VHS tape. I showed it to my glitter and unicorn loving daughter when she was little. She's now almost 11 and plans to run a large company when she grows up. She plans to wear pink and use her cute smile and bubbly personality to become the boss. But, don't piss her off she will make you regret it(her older sister already is scared of her).
Love legally blonde, Reese performance was epic
Evie in The Mummy
Not a rom com, that movie is an action thriller. 😐
I loved her in The Mummy 1 & 2!
very very great fun list I like it a lot great job mis mojo one of my very favorite list ever please do more videos like this one please
Kat Stratford is amazing
I also think Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice is empowering because she doesn't choose Darcy until he truly respects her, in his original proposal his feelings might have been there but everything else wasn't. but when he proposes again he has matured and has become worthy of her
Bridget made the choice to leave her job bc she realized how much of a mess her life was after realizing Daniel was cheating and she wanted a clean break from everything at the old job, including him
To be fair her character was a bit desperate but im glad she moved on and took some control over her life.
I LOVED Legally Blonde, which is funny because when I first saw the character I didn't think I would like her.
As much as I love this list I don’t think Legally Blonde should be included as I don’t consider it a rom com. Emmett and Elle get about fifteen minutes of screen time, their relationship is barely a subplot
Elle she’s just so iconic!
Why ain't Love and Basketball on here? Beauty Shop? How Stella Got her Groove Back? Dreamgirls? Oh nvm, I know why, there's black folks as main leads in them.
...Waiting to Exhale, What's Love Got To Do With It...
The Last Holiday?
not everything is about race like seriously
@@bef9612 OMG Yes!
Maybe because most of the movies you named are not Romcoms.
Also Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia is a very good contender here too
Why you want to leave meeee... i died..lol🤣
The whole movie!!!!! I agree😍
Elle Woods the feminist icon, we absolutely love to see it!
I think they should put this scene on avengers end game when all the female characters protect thanos glove that was amazing
I’v seen all these movies many many many many many times
Maybe it was just me, but Eleanor didn't come off as someone who was resentful for all of the obvious reasons at face value, and she seemed like she was regurgitating ideals that were shoved down her throat for years rather than actually believing in them. It seemed like she was simply saving Rachel from a life of heartache, disappointment and stress like her own rather than saving her son from Rachel. Her facial expressions and actions seemed to counteract her words as well as her softer interactions with Nick. She just seemed like a woman who wanted to be Rachel, free of those ties that she was made to believe were all that mattered. She wanted to have the time and love of her family. I couldn't bring myself to really dislike her, but I am glad that Rachel and her came to an understanding. I would love for there to be a Par 2 though, to see what the aftermath was like once things settled.
Legally blond is the best it is also a great musical and a good book. Nothing can beat the movie tho.
Honestly this video is so counterintuitive in so many ways!
Care to explain?
Not only that but is predominantly about white girl problems
Marco De La Rosa that’s so true
In most of these videos when they talk about feminism. They barely include women of color. Since it falls in the lines of an intersectionality issue. Women of color have to deal with racism and sexism. Often when these women explain their experiences the usually have to choose between.
@@catherinecampbell1089 Rachel should have been way higher on the list!
Iris' speech to Jasper is one of my favorites, he was an asshole from start to finish and had the nerve to try and make her have an affair with him. So so proud of her triumph shout
The most feminist movie that I can't get bored of it it's How to single
From the start of the video I was thinking about legally blonde.... I was thinking if legally blonde is not in the list than what is the point of making this list... happy to see it at #1
I love all these movies. I grew up enjoying movies with strong female leads, side leads, and non leads.
All of Love, Rosie!
Baby Boom (with Diane Keaton) is pretty great too!
My favorite femmes moment in the movie is that one scene from marriage story
Number two should be Astrid from Crazy Rich Asians. But it didn't even make it through the honorable mention :(
Dang, I thought the title was funniest moments.
I was goign to leave an angry comment had Legally Blonde not been top of this list.
What about shirley valentine such a classic and the whole movie is about her standing up for herself instead of by her husbands rules
Love Shirley Valentine!!! Very feminist and also charming.
I LOVE ‘LEGALLY BLONDE’. THE WHOLE MOVIE.
Top 20 Funniest moments or lines in Hamilton
Why’s this even in my recommended. I’ve never watched a romcom and I’ve never heard of msmojo
Half the list is about ending relationships. There are better examples. I think they should have been exchanged for honorable mentions. Clueless for example was very innovative in showing a protagonist who is not ashamed of her virginity and is very different from most teen films that always show the protagonists rushing to have their sexual experience right away.
you should put Rachel's scene to number one becuz that's like a "drop the mic" in the video...
Hilarious love these movies
Should be called Top 10 *White* Feminist Moments in Rom Coms
Marco De La Rosa BIG FACTS
Does Chinese and Indian count as white? 😂
Jai Hind showcasing predominantly white girl entries basically counts as *white*. Women of color have fought long and hard to distinguish white mainstream feminism vs. POC feminism
@@mac121mr0 why do you have to find fault in everything? Why so bitter?
Jai Hind i don’t really find fault in everything tbh. I wouldn’t say making a valid observation that might be overlooked isn’t being bitter. I personally believe being bitter is dismissing feminism, perpetuating misogyny, and/or passively/comfortably overlooking any grey areas on feminism. I guess sometimes ignorance is bliss? 🤷🏻♂️🤔
Cool.
Bridget! 💙💙💙
how come EVER AFTER is not on the list??
Who’s the director Nancy Williams? Never heard of her
Is Erin from Bring it On also Warner from Legally Blonde??
Omg I love legally blonde
I guess I’m early
What about Working Girl with Melanie Griffith? Some feminist moments there.
The first wife's club is cool
Even in this genre... of course you are going to get those moments in romcoms because YOU HAVE FEMALE LEADS!!!
I forgpt Rufus was in The Holiday
You should branch out of your comfort zone and watch other movies. I suggest *The Best Man* and *Deliver Us From Eva* as just a couple examples of strong women standing up in a Rom Com.
Elizabeth Bennett from the get go in Pride & Prejudice.
Bridget Jones is a retelling. I guess that's the most you get.
@@kimbarbeaureads were you talking to me?
Number 1 should've been: WOMEN AND CHILDREN FIRST! (from Titanic)
If you really want sad animated songs go to Winx club they have some f****** sad songs
Booboo Stewart Descendants 2 naming first female Captain
Legally Blonde was everything
If you think about, most of Kate Winslet's roles have been woman w feministic qualities.
All feminist shall parish
Not really.
Why
Do you mean they should pray? 😂
Did you mean "perish"?😁
@@abbiethebookhoarder6071 no perish
am i the only one that thinks that there should be rachel from glee when she breaks up with finn after a toxic relationship?
astrid in crazy rich asians?????
Stand up and assert my worth
I really like these videos but I wish the creators exposed themselves to a larger pool of media. Or are these videos tailored to the audience?
Votes.
probably the only feminists moments
I haven't seen Legally Blonde. I'm quite frankly, disgusted with myself :(
I need feminism bc i dont know if i should wear socks with birkenstocks or not
Gumption.
Please stop the terrible opening music. WE DID NOTCOME HERE FOR THAT.
Yoooooooooooo
