Having cruised a similar Corsair F31 from 1999 to 2007 I can attest that there is nothing like sailing one of these at 18 knots. I remember cruising with our friend's kids dozing on the nets when we hit the ideal conditions for a speedy reach - we were at 17 knots and I had to wake them up to see it - their comment was "put the big sail up!" (Wife's comment was "furl in the jib"). The thing about this boat is it planes and that's where you really pick up speed. We've since moved up to a larger but slower trimaran and I often look back fondly on the days when we had a simpler boat. My only regret with the Corsair was not getting the 15hp engine as I think it would have been better for cruising.
Bit late but the main reason Corsairs and especially Farriers don't do this kind of stuff is performance. A big wing or bridgedeck cabin adds a lot of weight and a lot of windage, which ruins the truly excellent sailing characteristics these tris are famous for, not to mention trailerability. You already need a 'decent' (read big) 4WD to tow a relatively light tri of 9m length and up any distance. These tris do exist though, but they are mainly for liveaboard and blue water cruising, look at the Neel trimarans for an example. But that is really a different kind of sailing than these boats deliver.
Thanks for the overview. The Corsair 970 looks great. Audio tip, you should point the microphone towards your voice. With it facing away, your voice fades out when you turn.
@Crack Baby I kind of thought that. The thought of going 20, 25 knots in a small-ish easy handled 40' Dragon Fly caught me for a bit. Saw one at the boat show, they are beautiful. I am an extended cruiser. Back to drolling over the Moody 45 DS and looking at the used listings that are in the US. Thanks
@@MultihullCentral1 My apologies, I didn't know he passed away, he started building them in kit form in Brisbane a long time ago, I love your boat, they've come a very long way from the originals, cheers Darryl
Where's the "TEST" part of the video? Did I blink & miss it? Geez the presenter could at least show the folding of the outriggers instead of "you just undo these 4 bolts and" . the videos are narrated by "salesman" not sailing folks what a disappointing presentation!!!!
Well... He did walk on it... seemed like a firm footing to me. He also wore street shoes which I’m sure the owner really appreciated, especially if there was any gravel embedded into the tread.
Robert Lane - LOL! I meant he seemed to be wearing the same shoes he walked there in on deck. Ive known more than a few owners that will not allow. Deck shoe worn off the boat to be worn on the boat. They do this because gravel bits can get lodged in the tiny treads and will mar the plastic fiberglass and wood surfaces on board.
Yes that's a good question. Probably worth a video on its own. Has a system to lower from the trailer OR from the boat with a mainsheet. 2 person job but pretty simple once you know the ropes.
I’m solo.. Who cares how many tables, even with kids they don’t use them, but tables and no sailing plus price, please state prices or is that a secret? Oh, sorry, it’s too expensive but a good (cough) salesman will sell you it for double the price... let’s see how much we can rip you for: I’m looking for a fast tri I can trailer and also live aboard for two to three weeks at a time... I assume this is sold? If not it’s been a while so price please, here where it can be seen then maybe I’ll come and we can test SAIL.
They start from US$167,299 for the Corsair 970 as a brand new boat with full warranty etc. Get in touch if you want a price list at brent@multihullcentral.com
No, Corsair Marine. The f4U Corsair was an American aircraft and they as well as the original designer Ian Farrier, may he rest in peace, are all kiwis.
Not easily, but possible. The floats on this design are very large with lots of buoyancy forward towards the bow so you can drive the boat very hard down wind.
tђє ςคยϟє ๏Ŧ ฬєt קคภtเєϟ multihulls are faster, roll less in bad weather, cut through waves better, and don’t heel over. There are ways mono hulls are better than multihull but not for the reasons you stated.

Vince Miccio wow that is a great story and summary of the boat...thanks so much for sharing!
so neat. above deck table needs lips on it, even if a cat won't heal much, still will have 10deg to 15deg.
No actual tested was performed, never left the dock.
Good review ..can you do a review on the Rapido catamaran 50.?
They should span all hulls with the cabin so it is not just another tiny mono hull.
Works on the bigger trimarans but they get heavier and unable to fold and tow
My Paradise on Bantayan Island, Cebu, Philippines If you want a roomeran that is slow and won’t sail to windward then buy an old Piver.

Beautifull boat.

Love it, little more headroom would be perfect.
Glad you mentioned your height. At 5'8" I think I would be very comfortable onboard.
Mathew Davis - Adventures and DIY yes you would be much better suited 😉 pretty cool package for fast cruising
Do they do a furling main mast??
Is a trimaran like a bicycle with stabilizers?
Test and tour are two different things. Fyi
Love the state room. :)
Price on reviewed tri? Am a Hobie Cat sailor and think these corsairs are a great set up for weekend getaways on the Goldy or sunny coast.
Hey Matthew - we can get back to you with pricing information if you email michael@multihullcentral.com
Probably a little more than a Hobie Cat.
Matthew Plummer hobie cats suck 🤪
Yeh, that is why they are all over the planet. You really sound stupid. Keep it up. @@Mahalo_83
J T so are shit box Korean cars doesn’t mean they’re any good.
Why buy a trimaran? 3 words, "It's Fucking Cool"!!
Would be ok for day trips but would feel a bit Claustrophobia spending 2-3 months sailing.
The Corsair is beautiful. A boats like the Corsair and Dragon Fly capable of extended ocean sailing?
@Crack Baby I kind of thought that. The thought of going 20, 25 knots in a small-ish easy handled 40' Dragon Fly caught me for a bit. Saw one at the boat show, they are beautiful. @Crack Baby May fair winds and a following sea sail get you to a place with good whiskey and willing women.
Can eau solitaire fold the boat returning to the dock?
Yes you can. See this video to show how...ruclips.net/video/GSzRNNks_5I/видео.html
But could you blue water that boat ? And I noticed that Stays are lashed. very nice.
Coastal definitely, blue water would be a bit wild though. The 37 would be better suited
Depends how savvy a sailor you are.
How does this compare to the Dragonfly 28?
Similar in concept but still not as expensive.
Aren't they anIan Farrier design who built the Trailer Tri 680 AND 720?
yes its origins were with the great late Mr Farrier

Hi there just wonder where you get insurance from for a multihull? Any help appreciated
depends on the tri and the extras and rig etc. we are getting insurance through a few options. email michael@multihullcentral.com for further info.
Call All State. you are in good hands.
That's a nice video, but it's not testing.

what is the lenght,
31 feet (9.7m)
What does a boat like this cost?
200k plus
Is there an "R" in SAIL?
CAAARBOON...
Beautiful but inside too small :(
It's mostly a racing boat not really meant for comfort
Didn't explain how the mast goes up and down.
Yes that's a good question. Probably worth a video on its own. Has a system to lower from the trailer OR from the boat with a mainsheet. 2 person job but pretty simple once you know the ropes.
"Owners Suite" LOL. It's a double if you're 8 yrs old
I am twice the size of an average man...not a great model 😅

Fashion is not kind to everyone.
Must be nice to sleep next to the beautiful smell of the bog
Looks like it would flip over easily,
Not easily, but possible. The floats on this design are very large with lots of buoyancy forward towards the bow so you can drive the boat very hard down wind.
With all that carbon fibre it must cost a fortune, literally
Principles cost money Daniel :)
If you have to ask ...
Shit
who on earth buy these ugly, expensive, useless boats??
Mono all day long especially if you expect days of bad weather and rough seas.
Cats are for people with no sailing skills.
