My mouth was watering two time watching this small but awesome catamaran...Always a good indication sign that my heart was really wanting one !!! Indeed !!! :)))
I do like these. Just nicely designed with nothing that feels superfluous. I guess you need to keep an eye on guests boarding so they don't step on the rudders. And I suppose you need to be careful loading them up with cruising kit. I'm guessing the dagger boards must have weak/break points so you don't damage the case if you whack into something. Just a great unit for disappearing off into great blue yonder rapidly and quietly.
Very true. There is nothing like a sail around the world to test it and flush out any shortcommings. All the important critical features on this boat seem very simple with easy access for maintenance and repair possibilities. I
How do you prevent marine growth inside the dagger case. When the dagger boards are up are they completely inside the case/hull or do they protruding through the hull
With the removable windows are they locked in position for security. Can you also provide an additional windows with a security mesh to allow for ventilation in the tropics when you're off the boat.
Great, finally a good video description of the 1190, thank you! With those rudders, I would like to see how the ladder works for someone to get back on the boat after a swim. Also on reliability side, what advantages and inconvenients do these rudders and daggerboards have vs the 1160 Lite?
Hi Jean-Erik, glad you like the video. The ladder is a fixed dive ladder style that is easily mounted and dismounted from the side of the bottom step. The ladder floats so no risk of it sinking. It is clipped up out of the water under the aft transom seats. The convenience of the rudders / daggerboards is that you can lift them right up high so you can get into areas with very shallow water and let the boat sit on the bottom on soft sand. ideal for sandy creeks to get out of the weather. Of course you also point higher and have less drag downwind. Disadvantage is that need to remember they are there when down as they go down to a maximum draft of 2.1m compared to 1.1m with the standard mini keel and spade rudder. Also the rudder extrudes at the stern of the boat so you need to be aware when backing into a marina berth. The spade rudder on the LITE will be more responsive when moving slower. The retractable rudders will be easier to handle when moving faster.
Would be perfect for the Bahamas...the owner of the boat in the video likes the fact the boat sails well, but actually bought it for shallow areas here in Australia.
No actually, they are designed by Seawind's internal design team. However they did consult Alan Carwardine regarding the design of the daggerboards and rudders.
We have a new syndicate forming on a new Seawind 1190 Sport for delivery in early 2019. 2/3rds already sold. The boat will be located on Pittwater (near Sydney Australia) and race regularly. that's true to some extent...the rudders are high aspect foils designed to be easier to turn at higher speeds and commonly used on racing and high performance cats. Both the rudder blade and case are carbon fibre, as are the rods that steer them. They also have the added bonus that you can raise them and drop the total draft down to just 1'9" - pretty handy when entering a shallow creek for refuge
Daniel Ratko when you lift the daggerboards, rudders and outboards the hull has a draft just under 2 feet...0.6m - so yes the hull would be the deepest part of the boat
@@dratko1213 I'd like to know this a well... I'd like the option of two six oz layers of kevlar in the bottoms for abrasion, but if you get the diesel option they are only available as sail drives so that just messes up the whole idea. I want a light cruising Cat, not a racer with OB's... I don't want to store any gasoline onboard other than the dinghy supply.
I like the boat, but wanted to ask about bridgedeck clearance. I noticed the clearance is 28”, and I know the Maine Cat 41 is 32. Would that mean less slamming for the Maine Cat? Many thanks, Maldwin Drummond
perhaps, however slamming really isn't an issue on this boat or any of the Seawinds, so I wouldn't make your decision based on if there is more or less clearance.
Thank you very much. I have one more question concerning draft: What is the draft with dagger boards down? Up? What is the draft with rudders down, daggerboards up? Many thanks, Maldwin
Ok...Daggerboards down the draft is 6'9", but with everything up draft is only 1'9"!!! The rudders are a little shallower than the daggerboards but that is inconsequential as you can lift the rudders to suit the depth you are motoring through - and help the rudders with control through the motor combination. @@hwntwww It's E-glass polyester resin, but they do use vinyl-ester resin in the outermost laminate as an osmosis barrier. I do believe there are some carbon reinforcements in the hull structure where required. Most importantly everything is laid up and put under vacuum for resin infusion. This is the smartest way to build a boat, about the lowest resin-to fiber ratio you can get. You don't need 100% carbon to make a very stiff hull unless you want to spend $1M (or way more) to win trophies. I was skeptical at first but I've come to fall in love with this boat and the manufacturer.
