Not only was that a very interesting and informative review, I really appreciated the way it was made. You clearly start out with a plan (storyboard and shot lists?) and as you film you remember to create links to and pick-ups from cut-ins as you ride. Then, in the cut-in you carry over from the link the ride. Then your clips are strung together really well during editing. If I didn’t know any better I’d say your background is video production but I believe its in (security?) software. Your video standards are impressive and continue to improve - complete with your ever present humour!
ps. Many, many years ago I was also in the software world. I used to work for the people who created the holes, cracks, imperfections etc. in a very well known series of OS’s.

Many thanks for another excellent and honest review! I certainly agree, as also a proud and happy owner of the 2022 MT 10 SP. Especially, this new semi-active suspension from Ohlins, is a dream and definitely worth the extra money! I am riding motorcycles for 42 years now, and this bike manages to put a smile on my face everytime I commute or tour on it! Do a test ride guys, when you have the chance. Ride safely, cheers! 👍

Hi Andy, another informative real world test, thanks. I have a new 2022 MT10 in the same colours and I love it. I had the gen 1 version on a 20 plate and really enjoyed it. I swopped to a new Tuono 1100 early in 2022, couldn’t resist a fabulous deal. The Aprilia was fabulous, but the Yamaha just has the edge in all round performance for me (power, speed, brakes, comfort, economy, value), so I swopped to the new MT10. Looks are personal taste and subjective, and I did not like them originally, but of course the looks grew on me over the years until I took the plunge! There are more powerful competitors, faster, lighter etc, but as I said in the real world this bike has given me a massive amount of satisfaction and great value too. Keep up the good work!

Just a note 18:33 - you can overtake on them, but you must not pass the vehicle at the front before or on the crossing. Not saying it’d have been practical to do in that scenario, but just a technicality!
Always been interested in this bike, but it seems to have become rather generic and pale over the years, surpassed perhaps by newer, shinier things? Must get myself down for a test ride to find out.

Another great review. Over the last few years, I've never really understood the purpose of supernakeds, and whilst I'm now starting to get their merits, this one fules my biggest gripe about a lot of these bikes. That it is, whilst in a lot of respects a great performing bike, absolutely pig ugly!

Great video as usual. Thanks for that.👍 On the subject of zig-zag white lines near a pedestrian crossing, you are right you mustn't overtake the vehicle giving way to pedestrians crossing. Also you mustn't park on the zig-zag lines for obvious reasons. I'm not really surprised that you have had questions about what the zig-zag white lines are all about, going the the blatant overtaking and parking on them that takes place near us!! If your a driver you should know what they mean!! Ironically the Highway Code book has a section on pedestrian crossings with diagrams, but omits the white zig-zags from the Road Markings section! If you haven't taken it already, have you thought of taking the RoSPA Advanced Motorcycle Test? As you are obviously a competent rider with lots of experience on different bikes, it would be a perfect subject for a video, I for one would tune in. Thanks again. Pete

Thanks for the reveiw Andy. It looks a fun bike to ride even though you couldn't try it out in those conditions. I really don't like the look of it though... .may be if I.was younger LOL from the bits I could hear it sounds awesome. It does appear to be good value compared to its competition. I think in general these bikes are less popular now as the UK biking population gets older...with less youngsters riding, it's a real shame. So that bike would be wasted on me now but as always I enjoy watching your reviews :-)

Mine has GB racing engine covers, the 2022 comfort seat, Evotech tail tidy and every type of Evotech bobbins you can fit to this bike plus Evotech frame sliders. Oberon bar end mirrors, Akrapovic can in black with additional carbon fibre heat shield for the cat, Gilles levers and chain adjusters, Daytona Heated grips, Yamaha rad guard and oil cooler guard, Yamaha front and side tank pads. It will be decatted next when the warranty is up and I'm about to order some TST front turn signals as the OEM ones come adrift really easily and stick out too far. Wearing all black kit on this machine I turn heads everywhere I go, I can't wait until it sounds like it looks.

Great review Andy, the MT-10 was one of the four bikes I narrowed my search down to for a replacement for my 2020 Street Triple RS, the others were the BMW S1000R, KTM 890R and 2023 Street Triple RS, all four were tremendous bikes with totally different characteristics, the S1000R is a do it all bike with that Teutonic reliability and finish but without that adrenalin rush that the other three give you, the 890R is one of the most fun bikes money can buy of any capacity and although I know looks are 100% subjective I just couldn't get by the in your face design of the KTM, I loved the MT-10 and quite liked its new looks, the only slight problem I found was that after riding it straight after the RS or 890R both it and the BMW felt heavy, I know they're not but the KTM and Triumph are so light that they make anything feel overweight, one other problem I had with the MT-10 and S1000R had nothing to do with the bikes just me being a short arse at 5'7" but with a ridiculously short 29" in seam struggled to just tiptoe both bikes, you've no doubt guessed I went for the new Street Triple RS (in cosmic yellow) and absolutely love it, it's hard to believe that Triumph made such a step forward with the 2023 over the 2020 to 2022 model, not just in power but also in handling over what was already a great bike, the shortened gearing has made low and mid range acceleration so much more peppy, but ridiculous as it might sound what swung it for me was the new colour schemes after nearly a decade of drab colours, it's so refreshing to be greeted by a lovely cosmic yellow when I go out to ride the bike.

I have to agree, sideways on, it looks fine. The headlights don't do it for me too. It looks "beady eyed" !
Mirrors. IMO all bikes should have bar ends ones.
41 MPG doesn't sound too good. The 1050 Speed Triple I had, that was doing abut 49 MPG. Okay, it had 15 BPH less than the MT10, not that I used more than about 1/3 of it's peak BHP !
I wouldn't call you an amateur reviewer, in fact I'd say you're a real world on the road reviewer. Quite a few other reviewers are seemingly wannabee Rossi / Marquez / Bagnaias, which is fine for track day gods. For the rest of us mere mortals your kind of review really is a lot more applicable.

I have an original MT-10, grey and yellow, and I've de catted it, it sounds better if that's possible. Yamaha do a comfort seat, about £250 I think, I'm guessing they're listening to customers. I've got braided lines on mine and they're stupendous, but if I have to complain I'd say its very thirsty. The range, if you're excitable like me, is the achieves heel of this bike, but thar R1 frame, swing arm and modified engine designed for the road make it a joy to ride. I scour ebay for bikes because I'm an addict, but I compare everything to the MT-10 and whats better out there as a road bike, probably none, looks aside, yamaha have nailed this. Maybe a classic next. Great video mate.

  • @paulcollins7185
    @paulcollins7185 Год назад

I think there isn't so many of them about on road because they are really thirsty bikes and, as you know, the bike is almost addictive in the satisfaction you feel when riding it and I don't mean stupid fast but, well just briskly in a road riding sense and very satisfying handling that it has. I had the use of one for a fair while and actually stopped riding it as a daily using machine in my routine, cos I always seemed to be filling it up! I spoke to a fair few riders of the machine who I met and they said a similar thing. Lovely, lovely bike with a kind of addictive satisfying sense when riding it, with a lovely soundtrack to! especially when being a bit brisk with it. Loved my time with it, didn't have one as my own though and I wouldn't. You are right about the looks as well, great review matey.

I get that there's folk out there that love the bike and there's no arguing that it rides well, but it has been so badly let down in the style dept, that I think it will hurt sales and drive folks right into the arms of the Honda CB1000R 👍

Better seat, brakes, braided lines, suspension, range per tank and power. I bought the super duke and haven't felt the need to modify it at all. Where as the MT10 feels built to accessorise which means more time in the garage and less time riding

Hi Andy I have a 2018 SP version which I love riding. It is a marmite bike and in my opinion yamaha haven't shaved any of the ugly off the front end with the update and there is definitely something missing under the headlights, but when your in the saddle you can't see it anyway! I think all the MT10 saddles rattle around a bit, there are some cures on RUclips. I have the yamaha comfort seat on mine.the longest I have ridden is around 250 miles in a day with no problems, but you get plenty of breaks tho because of the lack of range I start looking for fuel at about 90 miles. Yamaha do have heated grips listed. I have oxford ones on mine with oxford hand guards that allow me to go out comfortably in the depths of winter. The side scoops remind me of a V Max. Great bikes if you have the opportunity to try one do it

You need to test the Aprilia Tuono 1100 non factory. It is a fantastic bike which you can get for a similar price to the MT10. With that bike you get a useful half fairing with a screen that really deflects some of the wind, a dual seat with a grabrail which make it more practical for the road than the factory version. Try one Andy. I think you will like it a lot.

    Good review as usual Andy.
However, as a now 5 year owner of my MT10 and as someone who had one of these new ones to test ride, for a couple of hours, soon after last year's Bike Show, I disagree on some points and agree on others.
My 2018 MT10 had an up quickshifter, which the very first 2016 bikes didn't and it works very well. In nearly 60 years of riding, I've always blipped the throttle on down changes, so didn't find the down change auto 'blipper' particularly necessary. The standard seat is not comfortable, for most people, which is why i and most owners have the 'comfort seat'. It is miles better, as Yamaha know by charging over £200 for them. I have the screen and hand guards, both of which make the bike better(in my view). I have 2 extensions on each mirror, which are 'buzz' free and allow a good rear view.
Now with the new bike, I agree with you, the front just looks wrong, as does the bland and boring side view. However, what they have taken away and why I won't buy this new model, is the fabulous original soundtrack which they have now turned(not tuned), into a mainly boring induction 'noise'. Such a shame Yamaha decided to change the sound, which perfectly matched this fabulous original CP4 engine, which is a 'monster'! Handling is spot on. Keep up the good work Andy.

Great review, it looks like a great bike, despite the looks and agree with you on that score. I do wonder if it's worth the extra compared to the MT09 options if you are riding on the road as it would be difficult to exploit the performance. Also, there is a fair difference in price.

I am not even wondering if this is actually worth spending but if you are actually getting a lesser experience when you have to restrain yourself more. For me even if money was not an issue I would get an MT 09 SP (or the similar Ducati or Triumph) over this.

I’ve ridden both the MT 09 and MT10. I own a 2020 MT10. The performance difference is huge. Both great bikes and the MT10 is much more of a handful but even more fun. The engine is phenomenal so you have to watch out for involuntary wheelies if you try a scoot past overtake in the lower gears. All that said I love mine, including it’s transformer face. Oh and unless you regularly wheelie up the main street in low gears forget the sub 30mpg nonsense. I get about 38 around town but when romping on on a longer run without being mental get up to 50mpg. The new bike is slightly higher geared so should do even better. The better electronics should keep it in check better too though I’ve never felt the need for much assistance.

Had a 2016 ‘original’ beast. Was a great ride and bike. I can tell from your review there definitely are some big differences. The original had ABC riding modes also, but B was weirdly the Brutal one. The upgrades on the master cylinder would be welcomed, the suspension is definitely a little bit more tweaked, it sounds more refined and quieter. In the old bike the quick shifter was not standard and was only “up” not down. I prefer the front end on the old bike, to me it was like “short circuit”. The electronics were a lot more basic (no 6 axis imu) - It will still be thirsty that’s for sure, so get used to Tesco!

Apparently they have either increased the gearbox sprocket by 1 tooth or reduced the rear rear sprocket by 1 tooth, presumably to improve mpg. My view is don't not buy one, because of reports of poor MPG, because lots of these reviews came from the US, where they have smaller gallons.

My friend has a 2017 and he's lucky to get 200km to a 17L tank of fuel, when I had my 2017 S1000R I was able to get over 300km to a same sized tank :) (for the record my considerably heavier Multistrada 1200 gets well over 300km to a 20L tank)

Nice review TMF. I like this bike & it's definitely one of my favourite super nakeds. It's got lots of character, is very useable but can be a brute when you want it to be. It also doesn't look anywhere near as bad as people make out either imo. If I was after a super naked, this would definitely be high up the list. The earlier models look great. Not a fan of the current look MT-10 looks too soft and the large area of exposed frame looks unfinished. I sat one at a bike show last year and was pleased how well the controls and the footrests suited me so perhaps when my PCP ends on the DL1050XT next summer I might chop it in for an earlier model. A lot is made of the supposed poor tank range, but in truth, ridden half way sensibly, you will get 140 to a full tank. I've toured Scotland on my 2020 model, in the company of GS and other big adventure bikes with no problems. Ok, so I was always the first to need fuel, but by then, (100 - 110 miles), they all wanted a break anyway! Half tank always comes up at about 82miles, and the reserve at about 110. I don't consider that bad for such a bike. Btw, the seat gives no problems on 300+ mile days.

Snazzy I think btw do you like the mirrors? I cnt see well they are too far in I think? Im gonna put bar end mirrors once I find a way to retain bar end WEIGHTS....most bar end mirrors replace the weight with aluminum! NG IMHO I found one company that reproduces the bar ends in heavy steel but they only do ONE as a mirror mount! EXPENSIVE too! Great review! Was always intrigued by this bike. But I think the reason you don't see many of them are because of the reservations I also have: the looks are meh and the power is too much for what I need. And while it's cheaper than the fancy competition you mentioned, I think buyers that got this much cash would have a bit more too to fork out for something European. The MT07 and 09 I think represent much better value. And in this litre bike super naked category, value is less of a consideration for the target audience.
