Real-world supernaked PERFECTION? 2023 Yamaha MT10 UK review

  • The 2023 Yamaha MT10 gets overlooked in most supernaked group tests because it doesn't have 207hp and a crankshaft that's been flushed down the bog in Australia. It does have the best engine of all time (fight me in the comments), a sublime chassis and newfound electronic genius - so is it the best real-world supernaked for those of us without £20,000 to spend? Find out right here.

Get the SP. The Öhlin active suspension alone is worth £2000. And you get the steel braided brake lines and nicer paintjob as a bonus. Trust me, it`s sublime! (the clutch cable is still in the way when turning on/off ignition but i forgive Yamaha)

Evilspawn, can you please explain about the paint job and braided brake lines. I live in the U.S. and I had looked at the 2023 model which has braided lines and have no idea on the nicer paint job. Paint jobs are all the same except the colors!

@@jsalemi9711 It’s kinda like the R1M color scheme, silver, black and Blue accents. And the engine spoiler/lower fairing that encloses the oil cooler ofcourse, makes it look alot nicer. More premium if you like.

Believe me its one off the most fun bikes to ride out there. 165 hp is enough for the road and enough to be exciting. Ive had 175 hp and even 200hp bikes but this is the most thrilling ride you can have.

Comfort seat is the best initial mod for these, then the Gilles levers from the options list so you can have adjustable levers that also look pretty. I have the tech black model with these and a lot of other extras including a full set of Evotech bobbins everywhere you can fit some, GB racing engine covers, Oberon bar end mirrors, the black Akrapovic silencer (shitting out £1000 to buy it hurt my arse somewhat), Evotech tail tidy to remove that awful gopping tailpiece, Gilles chain adjusters, Yamaha's own rad and oil cooler protectors to black out the front a little along with their side and centre tank pads and there's some smaller LED front indicators on the way as the OEM ones come adrift very easily and it's a total pain in the tits to re-mount them as I've found on two occasions now.

You hit on one of my main peeves from motorcycle manufacturers ..and that’s an option for a comfort seat ? You’d think that because you sit on it they’d sell you the most comfortable seat as standard ..they are knowingly selling you a less comfortable seat which is crazy ..I understand about after market mark ups but for ffs ..

Great review don't be apologetic about the rambling, it does that to you. I've had the original for 7 years and although I thought about getting a new one it is as much fun as you can have outside the bedroom, wife agrees as she is more or less permanent on the back. p.s. one thing that I really don't like on this bike, and some other bikes although it seems worse on the MT10, is the location of the horn (careful!) - it just looks like it's been stuck on as an afterthought.

Great review! Picked up mine Saturday, only done 12 miles and fortunately have a week of nice weather ahead to get some run in miles under my belt and scrub the tyres in etc. £1100 yamaha accessory deal allowed me to ditch the levers for the Gilles adjustable black ones, add slide protection and rad/oil cooler covers and to change some of the res covers and pegs to black billet ones. Some orders already placed with Evotech and Pyramid Plastics to sort tail tidies and covers etc. but most importantly a racefit growler x ordered so I can unleash the sound with a full titanium system once it's run in with a remap to suit.

Enjoyed this review. The cross plane crank does produce a distinct sound. Thing is it sounds great also at low revs. Perhaps even better. I would like to see an electrical exhaust opening valve to bring out more of the sound in these legal noise reduction times. Nice to have the induction sound through the tank, though. Fun text blips. BTW, hopefully you'll have the Boxster GT4 RS drive on your other channel. I understand the induction sound is even better than in the Cayman.

  • @leanit5756
    @leanit5756 Год назад +2

I don't know Tim. It is a nice bike. But I recently sold mine. I had a '19 and most recently a '22. The '22 was a nice bike... unless compared to the '19. The '22 looks better, the electronics are better, the barely-open-throttle fueling is better, and it is a fine motorcycle. The problem for me was, when compared to the '19, the excitement is just gone. The electronic neutering with Euro 5 pretty much ruined this bike. The lower gears feel like they have electronic limitations.
The old one would rip off gnarly power wheelies with minimal effort, and bone stock, just pulling away from a gas station the engine sound would turn everyone's head. I loved power wheeling around the cars I was passing. It sounded SO sweet, and had the best goose-bump inducing howl. The current version is not like that at all. It is almost silent. There is some reasonably nice induction noise that the rider can hear, but it is NOTHING like the old bike's sound. Yes it is still fast, but reminded me more of riding a FJR1200 than a traditional hooligan MT bike.

@@Steve-motorcycles I actually had one and traded it off for the MT10.... quite a machine. Power was really something. But I got rid of it for 3 main reasons: 1st, handle bar ergonomics were "weird". 2nd, the switch gear was the absolute worst of any bike I have ridden or owned (except my Super Adventure R which was equally as bad). 3rd, it had this weird thing on deceleration at about 4,000 RPM where it would open the throttle plates and abruptly lose engine breaking. I think this is some kind of emissions strategy as I noice the new XSR 900 does something similar in the low 3,000 RPM range, though not as bad. In any case it was highly annoying. It was a hoot though when it wasn't pissing me off.

I have tested one today. My impressions are: Great engine, but would also shorten the gearing. Bad brakes if compared by BMW or Brembo. Biggest frustration was the fact to to be able to change the power mods when driving + very small screen. So not perfect. If money not a subject I would still take Aprilia Tuono or Surperduke 1290 / 1390 over it. Idk about BMW, never got to ride one yet.

It's a Schwarzwald harvesting monster (Voges too ;) :D ) - it's just brilliant at everything, as you now know ;) Comfort seat FTW, I wouldn't even think twice about that!! I'm not a fan of mode 1, because I don't like the fact that when you think you've got loads more throttle (and power) to come, it turns out you're nearly on full throttle already (you feel "robbed" ;) ). The brakes are a weak point but I've got used to them on my SP. The mirrors I fixed by putting the ones from the Tracer 7 on - they look the same but are an inch longer so you can see past your elbows!

The yamaha Mt bikes look amazing parked on a driveway... But the moment someone sits one one it makes them look absolutely daft.
Yours sincerely... Tracer 900gt owner 😅

Really cool bike but it always reminds me of a transformers arse. That front end is hideous.

I think you're just repeating what u read on RUclips. I have a 19 model, and in the flesh it's a nice looking bike. Very aggressive looking. No not as sexy as something like the SF, but it's HALF the price!
