  • Last week I headed to Germany and Belgium on my Yamaha MT-10 SP for 5 days of touring fun, avoiding the rain and exploring central and Northern Germany. In the first episode we get to Trier across some brilliantly smooth(!) Belgian roads, then faff about at the Nurburgring and see the bridge at Remagen. Then it's time to head towards our next war destination…

    Europeans (and British lol) are lucky. You can jump on your bike and travel through stunning scenery and experience a number of different cultures on an 8 hr ride. As an Australian, I can ride 1000 miles and still be in the same state haha.
    As usual, fantastic video.

    2 years ago I rode with my son from the UK through France, Belgium, Germany to the Austrian alps and back him on a Panigale V4 and me on a CBR650R
    This year we’re catching the ferry to Santander then touring down to the Algarve in Portugal for WSBK at Portimao and then back Him on Panigale V4SP2 me on a Panigale V2!

    Thank you for bringing such great fun and exciting content. Right now I own a 2023 MT-10 and Ive had my license for 20+ years but Ive never toured. When I watched this I really started thinking about going exploring some smaller EU trips however the fuel range of these bikes is what worries me. How did you plan the ride? Did you route this trip manually with 30+ fuel stops or is the XT2 able to help you out with some smart auto routing including fuel stops every 200km? Cant wait for ep2 of this trip :) Greetings from Sweden!

    • @timrodierides
      @timrodierides  Месяц назад +1

      The range is fine! 120 miles to the fuel light on motorway trips. 100 miles on backroads. I tend to stop every 200km no matter what bike I’m on so it wasn’t a problem! Whenever I got close to 200km I just used the Garmin to find a petrol station near my route. No stress!

    Hey - looking forward to the next video.
    2 random questions:
    1- did you consider BMW S1000R for buying?
    2- if yes, what made you settle with MT10SP over the Beemer?

    • @timrodierides
      @timrodierides  Месяц назад +2

      Hello! Thanks! I didn't consider the S1000R when I bought my MT-10. The MT-10's engine has a more exciting mid-range, makes a far better noise (one of the best-sounding engines in biking in my opinion), it was cheaper to insure, comfier and I got a really good deal on it. The S1000R's probably a tiny bit faster, has better brakes and uses less fuel… but it just doesn't have the 'character' of the Yamaha in my book.

  • @averagebiker

    Love these vids. Will you still go for the Leo Vince decat or will that cause noise problems on tour?

    • @timrodierides
      @timrodierides  Месяц назад

      Not really! It does 120 miles to the fuel light at a fast motorway cruise. About 90/100 miles when you’re thrashing it. I tend to fill up every 110 miles anyway when touring regardless of bike!

    • @westers1514
      @westers1514 Месяц назад

      @@timrodierides So it hasn't changed from the 1st Gen MT-10 I had. 110 miles is rubbish - I get 180 miles from my Super Duke GT when thrashing, and the torque and engine is even more mental.
      Shame, I liked the 1st Gen MT, apart from the hideous seat comfort (looks like they may have addressed that, and the tank range.

      I've toured on the MT10SP and the M1000R (not the S1000R). M1000R was vibey, uncomfortable in the seat and had low bars… and not that fun at road speeds. The MT10 is way comfier, has stacks more mid-range, makes a better noise, is more affordable. I bought the Yamaha!

      Really good. Will do a full review soon, but I've done 2k miles in a month, mostly on this trip. They took a little while to scrub in, but I had complete confident in them on this trip riding as hard as I felt comfortable on public roads. It lashed it down on the last day and they felt incredible in the wet, super surefooted. My mate Carl at MCN has a set on his MT09 long-term bike and he's done a lot of wet riding on them and is very impressed. No squaring off on mine yet, and they felt planted at a GPS 153mph!
