  • In Puppy Diaries this week we take it easy for a few days to heal more from the loss of Finn before taking some training wheels off with positions and cues, add a boatload to our busy place work and hit Ren's Bryt addiction head-on with some counter conditioning ❤️
🔗 I mentioned the Photography Show in here which we'll be at for the duration. You can come say hey (please do, don't just hide!). The info is all here: www.photograph...
🚨 PLEASE watch Week 1, you must know the foundations, our ethos, AND why you should not get this breed of dog, especially if you are not committed to (or enjoy!) daily training sessions for the next 15 years, management of behaviours, have at least one "job" for the dog to do. These dogs are not pets, they are working machines and will become dangerous and destructive if not prepared for life or managed properly. Thank you to all the other owners who contributed with their experience in the Week 1 comments, and I'm glad I'm handling this as safely as I can 🙏 🚨 Week 1 ➡️ • Meet Ren & see what we...
    ^^^ don't ignore this please 🙏
Join us back next week for the last installment where Ren's graduates from our little Puppy Bootcamp right before we slide into adolescent madness.
🙏 Be sure to subscribe to our channel for weekly content on all things photography 🙏

She’s so amazing and it’s been amazing watching the training. I really wish they’d continue on for the year . . . maybe instead of weekly pictures you should change it to weekly instalments of Ren..😊 . . . we need our Ren fix!
You do a lot of your training with your puppies on harness instead of just a collar, why is that? I’ve only used harnesses for tracking and scent work, just wondered why.
Thanks again for sharing REN and all of this important puppy training. ❤

Dammit I wrote a whole reply and then accidentally hit cancel 🤣 In week 5 I think I mention that I switched her into a harness because she was quite happy to swing into a collar so I popped her into the harness to relieve her neck for the first foundations. In week 8 you'll see her first switch back into a collar, but it'll be a couple of weeks to proof it out and about so we'll interchange for a little while 🤓

Gosh, I swear there are 100 clickers in my house. I only know where 2 of them are ... maybe ... I think? Where do they even go?!

I'm curious... Why does she spend so much time without the other dogs? Is it so she doesn't bond too closely to them instead of you? I'd have thought they'd have done a lot of the hard work for you teaching them their ways? Looks like she's coming on really well 😊

She’s in the same room as our other dogs for half of each day (roughly) but with barriers between and they sleep in there. In the day rest is mixed between alone and in there too, so puppy doesn’t panic if there’s times they’re away from other dogs. Mingling time is supervised partly because Alf will roll a puppy when playing far too roughly for baby joints 🫣 and partly because the older dogs don’t need to be accosted for long durations at a time. But I 100% agree that letting adult dogs teach pup is absolutely the best way, so we mix as often and as long as I feel is safe for everyone involved.
On an evening when we chill, pup and one or two of the “big dogs” (ironic because she’s bigger than Bryt now!) are loose to play and chill in the room, and they walk and work together sometimes also so they definitely still mix.
The main focus is a stronger bond with us than the other dogs yes, but also to protect pup and the other dogs from each other as both are breeds that will go until they pass out rather than stop before. Pippi is so very sensitive that she needs small doses to make friends for long term cohabiting, and Bryt doesn’t find saying f-off easy. Different adult dogs would have different mixing protocols for sure 🤓

Thank you for clarifying. I'd kind of figured it would be something like that and obviously you can't show your entire day on these videos, it had just peaked my curiosity to understand the methods. It sounds like a really good balance between dog-led learning and people-led. She's going to be a really well-balanced Mali by the sounds of it. Hats off to you for all your hard work. I love them from a distance, but I'm quite happy with my low-needs whippet and westie 😂
