- In Puppy Diaries this week we tackle loose lead walk for the very first time, introduce the start of a rear pivot finish plus build on recalls, do our very first solo photoshoot in the studio, head to our first dog agility show and build on foundations even further 🤓
🚨 PLEASE watch Week 1, you must know the foundations, our ethos, AND why you should not get this breed of dog, especially if you are not committed to (or enjoy!) daily training sessions for the next 15 years, management of behaviours, have at least one "job" for the dog to do. Loving seeing Ren and watching her learn. You feed chicken for your training, do you use freeze dried treats? There’s a HUGE difference between her and her brother, Ren is much more confident and socialized than he is❤
No the chicken is part of her daily meal, it’s cooked off thigh for ease of handling though. No treats other than an emergency fish treat bag at the dog show 🤣

I looooove watching these videos as I learn and put names on some of the exercises and training I’ve doing with my dog ;) also, I do the negative marker too ! Even though I was told off by trainers of “not being positive” anymore 😅😅😒
As for “when I walk, she walks, she keeps walking” - I totally understand that, specially when you think you have 3 other big dogs. Otherwise, there’s no way you are walking all of them in an orderly fashion.
Also, the more I see of you, the more I realize that we are very similar 😂 except for the time management efficiency, I’ve lost that (you are to blame with all these videos 😝).

Um, there's nothing better than being the fun aunty for someone else's Malinois. Like, I have to hold my Mals accountable, so when I get to go out with friends who have them, I love being the feral aunty. :D
Alssooo, yes, dog shows = dog shopping. And if we're competing, cheeseburgers (plain) after, because ... I'm not sure why, but I like it. :D

Silly question, but I’m going to ask. How do you monitor the amount she has eaten in a day when you’re training during these critical few weeks? Watching your videos, I’ve realized that I didn’t treat enough during training. Love the videos!
She’s trained with her meals, so every meal is weighed, but then hand fed throughout training or given in enrichment toys like Kongs etc. It develops really strong handler focus, reduces resource guarding, improves training responsivity and can be done at any age. The same process is done with fosters or rescues we have here. At about 5-6 months old, a food bowl is introduced but by then all the foundations are in place and we’re usually good to go 🤓
Just an observation. Why is she walking on your right side and not the left?
I walk 4 dogs, two on each side. We do not have specific sides to walk on, loose lead is loose lead regardless of the location at my leg. Directed heelwork is left side for me personally, but we do not compete in any sport with heelwork so it is just a preference as I'm left-handed 😊
Awesome. I'm conformation showing and always on left. I'm really enjoying your ren diaries and the patience you have. Amazing. My next door neighbour have three of these dogs and they are amazingly trained (police dogs)
The K9s are insane! RenBear is a slightly toned down version which has its pros and cons. I love watching any dog do its job, but these guys are something else!
