    I really appreciate your in depth warning at the beginning of this video. Not only does it prove that you've picked up this breed with your eyes well and truly wide open but really emphasised the serious nature of the breed to anyone less educated who may simply see a cute puppy

    • @ThatPhotographySpot
      @ThatPhotographySpot  8 месяцев назад

      I thought it vitally important not to glorify the breed and encourage those unaware of their traits to impulsively get one because they are so eye catching etc

    I struggled watching all of this one, I am wanting another Mal puppy so bad. We have 2 dogs and that is always our limit - financially - for vet, feed etc. My Mal was a working police K9 and now she is my photography model. Thank you so much for the way you presented having a Malinois. I just love Ren!!!!

    Such a fantastic, informative video. I have never actually trained a puppy as I've always adopted adult dogs, the one dog I've had from a puppy has a brain condition which affects his balance and mobility but we've been able to teach him more than I ever imagined would be possible! I'll definitely be referring back to your videos in the future for guidance and tips if we do get a puppy one day! And i absolutely loved the declaration you made at the beginning about the work and dedication it takes to own breeds like a malinois, unfortunately so many dogs end up in shelters for this reason.. people don't do the breed research and get a dog that ACTUALLY suits their family personality and lifestyle, then they're overwhelmed and the dogs are the ones that suffer! Ren is a lucky little lady she has ended up in a wonderful home with a wonderful family.

    • @ThatPhotographySpot
      @ThatPhotographySpot  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for the kind words 😊 I am sorry to hear about the brain condition your pup has but well done you for adjusting and being able to still teach the pooch more than you ever imagined 😍 There are too many people that get a puppy because they are cute or they see a well behaved dog and get that breed without knowing the breed traits and requirements that that dog will need. A Mal is not for 99.999% of people and is a lifestyle more than a pet. Thank you for such kind words, we are and will continue to do everything we can for our little Ren to give her the happiest life for her possible 😍So far we are doing alright I think

    I really love Ren! She is so fierce and cute. Thanks for the introduction lots of people need to consider more what kind of dog they're bringing home. I just have a question about the wait. Do you give a verbal command 'wait' or do you say sit and she needs to stay in the sit until you tell her the release command? And the chicken is like high value reward for when she does something really well?

    • @ThatPhotographySpot
      @ThatPhotographySpot  4 месяца назад

      I use a verbal personally, but many people train a position and hold without it. Each to their own! Yes, chicken is for jackpot moments or to build more drive and engagement 👍

    Thank you for explaining so thoroughly why they're not for everyone. I'm a dog person so know about them and would never get one myself (even though they're gorgeous!) ... So I think it's great you've put that warning on. Are you going to do a mini warning at the start of each video for those who only find a later video?

    • @ThatPhotographySpot
      @ThatPhotographySpot  8 месяцев назад +1

      No worries, it was a big decision for us getting her. We knew she would fit perfectly into our lifestyle etc, but we just didn't want to influence anyone getting one who isn't the right fit due to lifestyles etc but we cannot control that and can only inform people as we have here 😊

    This is a super helpful video. I’m looking forwards to the day we’re in the right position to get our own dog. Videos like this are so useful in helping to determine when we’ll be ready; creating a plan; understanding the time we’ll need to dedicate to get it right and the realities of turning a puppy into a trustable adult dog. This might be “basics” to you but it’s “new skills” to those of us who haven’t done it before and were not allowed a dog as a child! 😞
    All your dogs are absolute stars and videos like this shows the effort & commitment it takes to make that happen. Don’t worry about making the next video shorter… 2 or 3 hours video of Ren will be totally fine, we can cope! Haha 🙂

    She's adorable! So interesting to watch her little training sessions. She's definitely confident and happy, isn't she? I think my favorite part is whatever she's doing and then she puts her little paw up. This is definitely not a breed for me, but I have complete confidence she'll be a perfectly trained and wonderful dog with you and Dan at the helm. It'll be so fun and engaging to see her develop. Congrats on this little beauty!

    Omg, thank you so much for the depth warning at the beginning of this video. A lot a people need to hear this. I have a diploma in dog behavior and personally, I don't think that one day I will have this breed of dog. My life style would be good for them because I want a working dog to do agility, dock diving etc.. but those around me will never be ready for it because they don't listen to me, they will not respect my instructions and they will not respect my dog so an accident may happen...

    A beautiful breed I’ve owned two (one from puppy and my second was retired MWD) had both at the same time. Lovely informative video with positive information on the breed, too often purchased when people see a fully trained working dog in films, on TV or on here. So many in rescue or on other platforms being rehomed and needing so much remedial input for them to have a happy safe life.
    Thank you again for a very informative video.

    Hi, new subscriber here:
    So cute to see Ren as a puppy. I have a Belgian Malinois male myself and everything you say about training and high level energy is so true. Sometimes I think my Belgian Malinois is suffering from ADHD. He is training to become a police dog and is 2 years old.I train every single day with him and ride a bike with him next to me so he can build stamina and lose some energy. I would love to see you do some editing as I make a few photos myself (just started out without any knowledge) but have no clue about editing. Would love to do editing in some sort of grunge style as well, but again no idea how to
    Also, I am very much interested in high key dog photography
    Please keep the diaries and photos coming. Love your work.
    Regards,
    Marcel

      There are many plans for her but no pressure to do anything that she doesn't enjoy. We may have a little dive back into agility but not to the extent we were pre-covid. Dan also does enjoy long distance running and runs with our other dogs so she has the opportunity to join with that and then there is modelling for us along with many other opportunities but like I. said she won't be pressured into anything and if she doesn't enjoy something she won't be forced to do it 😊

    Hey Jess. I do tracking with my dogs and I made their harnesses. I’m starting Scent Work and will be trialling with them and want to use a different harness. What harness are you using with Ren? I’d like to have a different one for each type of work. Thanks! Can’t wait for the next instalment of Ren Diaries!

      For pull based work we use Non-stop Freemotion harnesses: www.nonstopdogwear.com/en/product/freemotion-harness-5/
      For when puppy finishes growing, the Rock harnesses from nonstop are really good with a front and underbelly attachment too: www.nonstopdogwear.com/en/product/rock-harness/
      For puppy whilst growing, we just get simple multi-clip Y-shape harnesses from amazon, they're the same harness but sold by hundreds of different stores under different brands, Bryt's (orange) ones are TrueLove according to my order history, and Rens (green) ones are Heele - they're exactly the same 😊

    Welcome to the Mali love club, they are amazing intelligent dogs, having had 3 previously, people underestimate the amount of everything they need, from exercise to mental stimulation and constant training as you said(for the rest of their life.
    It's great for you to warn people off from owning one unless they can give them what they need, during lockdown people were breeding them just for the money, no health checks, uncontrollable cross breeding.
    Now the pounds and breed specific rescues are full of unsocialized, untrained Malis and Dutch shepherds.
    Getting a Mali is a full life choice, you will cry and dought your choice many times, but you will also cry from laughter as they are the goofyest muts.
    PS watch out for the zoomies and maligator teeth, she will be fun and sure get all her needs met by you and your family, but she will be the leader of your pack as she grows. 😊

    • @ThatPhotographySpot
      @ThatPhotographySpot  8 месяцев назад

      I have noticed a lot of Mali Dutch crosses - are they preferred for something specific I wonder?
      I love your description, spot on!

    • @rbphot
      @rbphot 8 месяцев назад

      @@ThatPhotographySpot Yes they do cross breed the 3 herders for different types of jobs, a lot of Mali are cross breed with working line Gsd to give them a bit more size and not so highly strung, making them better for military and police work.
      But they are still hyper, you just get a bigger stronger nutter. 🤣
