"Maneater" was a No. 1 hit. You might also like these other '80s hits by them: "Kiss On My List," "You Make My Dreams Come True" and "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)." Hall and Oates also did a cover of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" by the Righteous Brothers, which is really good, too, and one of the rare songs that Oates sings co-lead on.
Hall & Oates was one of the ultimate pop groups in the late 70’s through the early 80’s. At one point it felt like they continuously had a song in the top 10 for several years.
Yes we are all from Miami and that was where Charlie Dechant was found ! Even though John and Daryl I believe are from New York I remember the first time Charlie played with them in Miami we had VIP seats lol
@@debrasimmons2682 Daryl is from Pennsylvania, John was born in New York but was raised in Pennsylvania. Charlie is an amazing sax player. I could listen to him for hours!
@@jaxiebeat9802 Yessss he is a friend of ours My ex husband and my self And also his awesome wife Shelia. From Miami right where we all live not sure what Charlie & Shelia are you to now lost track but he is on line
You can't even imagine how big this song was when it came out; it was everywhere! The 80's were great, maybe only taking a back seat to the 70's. The 60's through the mid 90's was the greatest era for music ever! Check out my favorite Hall and Oates song, Adult Education.
I'm 55, so These guys were my idols back in the day. So many great songs! Method of Modern Love, Say it isn't so, Out of Touch, the hits go on and on. Thanks so much for reacting to them!
I like how you make these songs that are old to me, new again through your ears. It's like rediscovering a gem all over again for the first time. Love this channel!
Yes I'm so pleased that you've listened to this wicked tune thank you mate 👍 & I'm glad that you enjoyed the beginning of the song aswell & I loved seeing you bopping away awesome 👍& I'm pleased that you enjoyed the sax in the song aswell & I'm glad that you've appreciated both of there 2 songs so far & I'm glad that your getting into them 👍& just to let you know that this great song came out in 1982 & 38yrs later it's still sounds fresh & new & it's timeless 👍
Very good song . out of touch that is nice. Jay's on a roll tonight peeps just great. Look at him move you can't help it it's that kind of tune great Jay. ☺☺☺💖💕💖💕
I have be nn a fan of H&O for over 65 years...countless concerts. They are my absolute favorite Group ever. Smooth and beautifully done. YOU NEED to check out Live from Daryls House.
I know I heard this many years ago and the thing I remember most is the wonderful sax playing. Like you said Jayvee is that it brings the song together. Mind you all the music is great and the wonderful voice, all in all a brilliant record. Take care and stay safe please my friends, peace love and hugs to you all God bless you Mary-Ellen UK
I use to DJ in the 80's. A band that is good to play after this song is. The Greg Kihn Band "Jeapordy"" or "Break up Song". When you have time check it out. Peace Patrick. Keep up the awesome work.
I had their H2O album when I was in junior high. This was a really big hit from that album. As I recall, their wasn't a bad song on it. Not that Hall&Oates had many bad songs.
When you listened to Sara Smile, I remembered thinking that the song wasn't really typical Hall & Oates because it was more of a soulful ballad. The duo did some songs like that, but Maneater was more typical of their style, kind of a 80s upbeat pop style that they had a great deal of success with. They were one of the most successful duos of the 80s, along with Wham.
I'd love to see you react to Spandau Ballet, the song: TRUE.. LOVE YOU Jay, you are truly the best one out there, you are my favorite, I wish everyone would smarten up and come over to you for the best music, and reactions..Love ya my friend ❤️❤️❤️
Daryl Hall moves like a puppet on a string, but still, I love them. Especially Out of Touch, as it was a part of the GTA Vice City soundtrack, which was my fav game years ago, and Kiss On My List.
They were always passionate about Soul Music from the time they were Teenagers. They grew up where there were alot of fantastic Blue eyed Soul Singers from them, Len Barry (123) who was also in the Newbeats (Bread & Butter) and The Dovells (Bristol Stomp, You Can't Sit Down), Vickie Sue Robinson (Turn Teh Beat Around), and Karen Young (Hot Shot).. Also if you can listen to "My World Is Empty Without You" by The Supremes and compare the melody. They used this Song when Daniella Westbrook made a promising "return" as Samantha "Sam" Mitchell on The UK Soap Opera Eastenders (1985-Present). This was the decade where their Career went into Orbit. They were also voted by Vibe as one of The Best Blue Eyed Soul Acts of all time. Also listen to "I'm In A Philly Mood".
I'm a 67 y.o. who was lucky enough to be a teenager when the world of music went crazy, with the development of new beats, harmonies, and themes. Hall & Oates were known as the "blue-eyed soul" group, and their entire albums were played on constant rewind on my 8-track while cruising around in my 77 Camaro Berlinetta. God... what a great time to be young and alive. Thanks for reminding me of a past previously forgotten.
Same age as you, Karl - I totally agree. We were so lucky to be young and alive in the 70's. The music will NEVER be that wonderful again. I sound just like my mother, who said this to me when I swooned over Paul McCartney and the Beatles - "that stuff is not music, it's noise." That's how I feel about the stuff they call music today. Oh, well - thank God for RUclips! :)
LOVE the music of Hall & Oates! I don't think you'll find a bad song in their entire catalog. Anything you pick is gonna be great! Loved your reaction. Thanks!
Rich Girl... Shes's Gone, Private Eyes... some other great ones. This one reminds me of the early 80's style of music. Great stuff!! Such a catchy song, those good old days, end of disco era, dancing at the clubs.
Fun fact: the instrumental inspiration for "Billie Jean" came from "I Can't Go For That". It's not a rip off of Hall and Oates, but you can tell he was inspired by that and he told them. If you want a more soulful song like "Sara Smile", I recommend "One on One". He sings more in that voice and they lyrics are really good. If you want more of a rock song, "Family Man" is a really good one and there's an official video for it.
Out Of Touch is the greatest Hall and Oates song. I am 68 and so glad to have been around for decades of the best music ever. It was also the best time for growing up. People respected others and there was not so much hatred in the music. Wooh here she comes. She’s a maneater!! This music is great dancing music.
Hall & Oates put out some of the great music of this time! Love this reaction! Love following your music interpretations, and feeling it all on your musical journey👍👌👏💙

I'm 64 and I really like this song but I really didn't like being out on the dance floor with this song playing. Thanks for your reaction, Jay..... take care and be well. Peace.
Loved your reaction and the other ones too. Big fan of Sir Daryl , what a handsome man and great vocalist..though I wasn't even born during his prime..Love from Bangalore, India😍...
I'm 56 years Young after watching some of you reactors we really did have the best music ever written back in the day 🤔✌️♥️

The obligatory 80s sax - classic!
The blue-eyed soul with that Philly sound. “ Rich Girl “ is a great one!
You are killing It today with the song selection.

You got to do “I Can’t Go For That”!
Absolutely yes.
Yes
That song Topped the R &B Chart when it came out and people didn't know they were White (Philly boys you know !)
Yes, please do this one. If you really want to be blown away by it, try the live version from "Live at Daryl's House" with Ce Lo Green joining in.
The ultimate Hall and Oates for me.
Sampled to brilliant effect by De La Soul

Yes! I was a teenager in the 80's.
Don't forget, 'Reunited'.
I would add Valerie. The Breakup Song might be the best song ever written. IMO.
Jeopardy! Yeah! 52 YO here...
"Rich Girl" is a must to react to by Hall and Oats.
I had their H2O album when I was in junior high. This was a really big hit from that album.
As I recall, their wasn't a bad song on it. Not that Hall&Oates had many bad songs.
Charlie Dechant is a legend, easily one of the greatest saxophonists ever! Love you and your channel, thanks for all the great music!! ♥️♥️
The 80's was in love with the sax.

give the song "PRIVATE EYES" a listen to. catchy tune and nice toe tapper or foot stomper

80s is just amazing, please discover The Pointer Sisters, Neutron Dance is just so much fun. Pop and Rock, all the music was great back then!
Another vote for Pointer Sisters They have several good hits.
I knew you'd love this one, one of my faves too, classic.
Darrell's House right here on Utube is awesome. So many guest singers and musicians right at his country home.
The saxophone is the sexiest instrument ever. Period.
I'm 65 years young and enjoy watching your reactions every night. Thanx for awakening the great memories !
Accord to Mr Hall the Man eater in the song is New York City.
Dan .Turner or the music business overall...
Yes, it is referring to New York City. They were in a diner and someone said this city will eat you up.
As true as that is, the metaphor gets stretched way too far in the lyrics. It clearly morphs into a woman with the later verse lyrics.
T-Bone Wolk.....We miss you man. Probably the musical director for Heaven's All-Stars.
The bass line on this song is so nice. That sax solo is amazing. For some reason, lots of 1980s songs have sax.
You should watch Darryl's House. The lead singer has guests from all music genres to play music in his home studio.
@Monica MAD WOW!!!
This is the blue eyed soul version of "Gold Digger". A great tale of warning put to an incredible beat.
Please react to One on One! It is very good ballad!
