This movie was so underated. This, in my opinion, was yet another fabulous performance by Connery. His acting skill really did shine through, while he talked with his son, Paul. You could almost see the love in his eyes for his kid. And as always, he always replied to confrontations with his firm, no nonsense, resolute demeanor. RIP Sir Connery...we miss you Sir!!!
"I'm probably a lot dumber" and the "Marshal Joke" are my two favorite lines of this classic. Connery's most underrated performance. He never portrayed a more vulnerable, flawed and committed character than O'Niel.
I wanted to see it but I was 16. In Ontario Canada it was rated Restricted, which meant no one under 18 could get in, even with an adult. I saw it a couple of years later when I worked at a video store. Good flick that still holds up.
I love the Alien-eque vibe to the film. Seeig both films has the same score composer and many of the set part from Alien were reused for Outland I'm not surprised.
"We're all professionals" "I'm sure we are." My favorite bit was the racquetball court scene where Connery gives his little speech about not liking his part in the dirty little rotten machine. That speech was the soul of the movie.
When first released people really slammed the scientific inaccuracies of the film. But for me the poor science never bothered me because the film was more about the characters. So it was the characters I focused on when watching the movie.
Alien Isolation ought to be made into a movie with maybe James Cameron or Denis Villeneuve directing. How did Ridley Scott veer off so much in his direction from the horror of Alien?
When I played Alien Isolation, I immediately thought of this film. The Colonial Marshals, the look of the station, the gas giant (Jupiter). The film was definitely an inspiration, even if it's not officially confirmed.
I watched this movie on a random Friday night with one of my friends during high school. No idea how we heard of it, I think he had just torrented a bunch of random sci-fi movies and we saw that this one had Sean Connery in it, so we basically said "fuck it why not." I honestly could not tell you if this movie was any good, but I do remember enjoying it quite a lot all those years ago, and this clip brought back some really pleasant memories from way back when. Maybe I'll try watching it again some day, because this actually kind of looks as good as I remember it!
It's a great movie that still holds up. I've seen it at least a dozen times since first watching it on video almost 40 years ago. Try to catch it on blu-ray because WB did a great job with the transfer.
Mr. Connery looked great in this film. Best he's looked since Thunderball, and a hell of a lot better than he looked in Diamonds 10 years earlier. Would've been interesting to see him as Bond with this look.
Too bad the squash court 'confidence' scene between O'Niel and Lazarus wasn't included. This is the best, most emotionally resounding one in the entire film, imo. Traditional male stoicism and civic virtue, at their best.
Dr. Marian Lazarus : You know, if you're the kind of guy you're supposed to be, you wouldn't stick around. That's why they sent you here. Marshal William T. O'Niel : Maybe they made a mistake. Dr. Marian Lazarus : I was afraid you'd say something like that. You really think you're making a difference? [O'Neil is silent] Dr. Marian Lazarus : Then why, for god's sake?! Marshal William T. O'Niel : Because...maybe they *are* right. They send me here to this pile of sh*t because they think I belong here. I want to find out if...well, if they're right. There's a whole machine that works because everybody does what they're supposed to. And I found out...I was supposed to be something I didn't like. That's what's in the program. That's my rotten little part, in the rotten machine...I don't like it. So I'm...going to find out if they're right.
My favorite Connery movie. Outland would make a great tv series. They could stretch the plot of the film over the course of a ten episode show on Netflix. Sprinkle in a few subplots that could be further explored in a second, follow-up season.
If men (like the marshal) and women (like the doctor) cease to exist, we are in big trouble. And don´t get me into feminism. If the woman doctor did not exist in this 1980ies flick, the marshal could not have succeeded, and vice versa.
High Noon (1952), Alien (1979), Outland (1981) Rip-off of the earlier films? … hmmm .. a bit harsh … I thought it brought more complexity and ideas to the table than both it’s predecessors.

One of most underrated 80’s films
"I'm probably a lot dumber" and the "Marshal Joke" are my two favorite lines of this classic. Connery's most underrated performance. He never portrayed a more vulnerable, flawed and committed character than O'Niel.
An underrated gem and one of Sean Connery's best performances.
I saw this in the theater. Damn I'm old.
I wanted to see it but I was 16. In Ontario Canada it was rated Restricted, which meant no one under 18 could get in, even with an adult. I saw it a couple of years later when I worked at a video store. Good flick that still holds up.
I wished I watched it in the theater. What was the audience reaction like?
I'm guessing the men liked the High Noon storyline & cool effects and the women swooned for Mr. Connery 😁
I saw Diamonds are Forever at the theater yikes every morning I look in the mirror at some old man
@@ghostofpambo6266 What was it like? What kind of question is that.

Same universe
Alien xenomorphs running round con am 27..........there's a thought
When connery, may he rest in peace, was born they broke the mold
Such a great movie, saw it in the theater way back when. Loved it
Dr. Lazarus was awesome. Took no shit, and gave as good as she got.
Lazarus was a fascinating character
yeah, she was definitely one of the highlights. great buddy chemistry with connery.
An absolutely awesome movie with the awesome Mr. Connery.
"We're all professionals"
"I'm sure we are."

Ill miss you Sean
High Noon in space. great
Beats me how people don't see the connection.
@@chrispile3878 there's literally a song about this film called High Moon, which should have been the title.
Whenever i see that scene with golf I can imagine Connery would want a go on it, as he was renowned golf fiend

RIP Frances Sternhagen😪🙏
They are all dead Jim.
When first released people really slammed the scientific inaccuracies of the film. But for me the poor science never bothered me because the film was more about the characters. So it was the characters I focused on when watching the movie.
RIP Frances Sternhagen
Such a great, under rated movie.
omg yes
" Think it over"
best foot chase scene ever filmed.
The Bourne Supremacy foot chase was also pretty good.
As a kid. I got Alien and Outlander mixed up. I didn’t see either until maybe 1985…it was the trailers that made me conflate them.
Same here.
Looked younger here (and in "Cuba") than he did 9 years earlier in "Diamonds Are Forever."
Can see the influence on the Sevastopol station environment in Alien: Isolation.
Especially Marshall Witts

Good movie. A western in space but with more exploding heads than scanners.
Sean was very good in this movie.
Sean Connery is one my favorite actor

"Your wife is one stupid lady. Wanna go get drunk?" Gotta love Lazarus.

Peter Boyle with a beard!
Peter Boyle as a villain is a stroke of genius.
A bit slow but it’s an underrated film.
It's really good but I prefer THE STAR CHAMBER that is another movie by Peter Hyams!
Though there are films that are clearly more slow moving than OUTLAND.
When Connery says he will kick your ass all over the room it’s believable
High Noon
on Jupiter's Moon
Connery looks cool in this film than as Bond in Never say never
My favorite Connery movie. Outland would make a great tv series. They could stretch the plot of the film over the course of a ten episode show on Netflix. Sprinkle in a few subplots that could be further explored in a second, follow-up season.
No thanks. Netflix would turn it into a woke crapshow.
Mustached hired gunman at the end of the movie is none other than Hachet Harry from Lock stock and two smoking barrels
It's unfortunate for the villain that he killers can't hit the broad side of a barn.
@@Argumemnonnor withstand zero atmosphere
That's a Marshall joke!
He almost kicked her nasty ass all over that room.
As excellent as Connery was in this, Frances Sternhagen stole the movie in all her scenes.
Her character might as well have been named Comic Relief
The town doctor in space. You could picture her in a hoop skirt.
They had cigars on Jupiter?
Evidently
Sure, they travel ya know?
He kicked ass but forgot to take names.

This film could have been great. All it does is go through the motions.
I've been waiting for you, Lieutenant
This was the early 80s when made when films had bad action but good acting .
This film could been great, was great and remains great.
The only thing bad about this movie is the AWFUL acting by the son.
that was dreadful
A rip-off of Alien, without the alien!
It's actually a rip-off of High Noon.
Outland shares the same universe.
The miner's suit are the same used for the salvage team in ALIENS.
Practically the same design team did both movies. Alien was space truckers. Outland was space miners.
High Noon (1952), Alien (1979), Outland (1981) Rip-off of the earlier films? … hmmm .. a bit harsh … I thought it brought more complexity and ideas to the table than both it’s predecessors.
Similar universe but not a rip-off.
