Absolutely one of the best scenes ever! His monologue is so incredible true and profound. the scene really elevates the entire movie. Thanks for posting this!!!
I remembered this scene when I was in grad school. I was having a hard time academically. If I got to stay came down to a single exam I had to ace. Over the years many people had told me I was not smart enough to get a university degree. I so I decided to see if they were right. I finished grad school with a MS in Analytical Chemistry.
Ironically, it had a number of effects, costume and set designers that worked on Alien, which is why it looks very similar and a lot of fans feel it belongs in the Alien universe.
Just watched Outland again last night on Blu-Ray. CBS used to air this film on Friday or Saturday nights for a while during the early to mid-1980s. I watched this film a number of times that way when I was a kid. I have a vague memory that there was a scene where O'Neil kisses Dr. Lazarus (nothing romantic, just a thank you type kiss) that happens near the end of the film. Does anyone remember seeing this?
"There's a whole machine that works because everybody does what they're supposed to. I found out that I was supposed to be something I didn't like." who else feels that way in 2024.. cheers!
All these years later and I still love this scene and that monologue from Sean. Underrated movie.
Great acting indeed, always liked this film, didn't get the credit it so well deserved.
Outland is one of my all-time favorite sci-fi films.

RIP Sean Connery the legend
film is from 1981 and here Sean looks younger than in the '70s
He'd shifted the weight, trimmed the eyebrows and got back to his Thunderball weight and hair.
its the hairpiece
RIP Frances Sternhagen.
One of my favorite movie monologues of all times, only Sean Connery could have delivered it with such deep meaning. Thanks for posting it!

they're acting is bad in this. almost like the non sex bits of old porno films
I disagree wholeheartedly. I think the acting is convincing and deep.
Did you watch the same movie I did? Seriously
We will have to agree to disagree. Just two over the hump types talking without bravado.
