And neither one probably wouldn't have been made had it not been for Star Wars, it's huge success created a wave that a lot of SciFi movies got green lit that probably wouldn't have been without it, I mean let's face it a movie about a huge space bug terrorizing the crew of a space freighter and a movie that's essentially a SciFi remake of High Noon would have been hard sells to studio executives when movie's like The Godfather and Chinatown were what was hot and were made during the "Director's Era" of movie making in the 70's, ironically Star Wars itself never would have been the hit it was if it wasn't made during the Director's Era because the studio let a director have complete control over making it, in any other era the studio would have stepped in and taken over the moment Lucas went over budget, like they did with so many movies and screwed them up after Michael Cimino's massively over budgeted 1980 flop Heaven's Gate, that's the movie that single handedly ended the Director's Era of movie making causing the studio's to step in and take over and screw up so many movie's the moment they sensed danger.

The music from the bar scene in my opinion was quite good and ahead of its time it could be mistaken for a lot of today's electronic music .it's cool and funky cause it's a space go go bar and not meant to be taken seriously always wondered who made it. Thanks Minty for clearing that up for me love your vids

Outland is a great movie. I just re-watched it a couple of weeks ago for the first time in years and found that it still holds up very well. It's actually one of my favorite Sean Connery movies. The chemistry between Boyle (whose character is an apologetic slime ball) and Connery was fantastic, and its a shame they didn't do another movie together.
High Noon is not about a new Marshall, it's about an old Marshall who is ready to walk off the job for good with his new wife and start a new life somewhere else, but stays when he hears some old villains are coming who could cause problems. At first the whole town is behind him, but, as the story progresses, they all wimp out and he is left holding the bag by himself.
It's a great movie and I highly recommend it. Watch the original with Gary Cooper and not the lame remake.

The funky bar scene music was by the Japanese Electro pioneer artist *Logic System* - a collaborator of Ryuichi Sakamoto's group Yellow Magic Orchestra - the "Japanese Kraftwerk". Those tracks are actually pretty great & were state of the art in 1980. Hyams knew his sh*t.

Jerry Goldsmith’s cue for the Rec Room sequence wasn’t used. The track they used was written and performed by Michael Boddicker. He wrote two cues and they’re both in the film. They’re both on the special edition of the soundtrack that was released by Film Score Monthly. Like always, a most enjoyable video about the film. I remember seeing it theatrically when it was first released. The laserdisc and initial dvd releases were terrible! Horrible aliasing. It was a relief that the bluray looks as good as it does. Keep up the great work you do!

Hm, I have been led to believe that "Highlander" was his big comeback cinematic vehicle, before "...Last Crusade" or even "The Untouchables". As well, the former (and future, albeit non-EON) JB/007 had a noteworthy role in "The Great Train Robbery" (adapted from the novel by M Crichton, who also penned the script and directed) in the interrugnum between Diamonds Are Forever and the aforementioned Highlander.
"10 things you (may not have known about)" for...Goldfinger? Meteor? The Great Train Robbery? Indy3 (1989)?

    • @havareriksen1004

I thought it was "The name of the Rose" that signaled his comeback, shot right before Highlander. That was the first movie in which he had the role of the older and wiser mentor, a role he would revisit in many of his later movies.

I feel Outland is actually one of Sean Connery's top 5 movies he has ever made. Maybe even #1 as far as his performance.
The look and feel of the movie does fit Alien to a T. In fact when they came to making Alien 3 I think they should have reached to this for inspiration instead of the prison planet. This Blade Runner and Alien could all be the same universe and even around the same timeline if someone wanted to connect them somehow.
