I belong to the corporate world. He was right.. about us not giving...I remember in one grand event.. the DJ kept playing... for about 10-13 minutes with an empty floor. He got a little angry and said, "I will play for another 2 minutes and by then if nobody comes up I will wrap up."

Can't blame people entirely. Not defending them but standup comedy is very new in our country and people are just not used to being made fun of and more than that lots of them can't take a joke.
Similar to how explicit scenes in movies used to cause such a furore but now Alt Balaji exists.
Things will change in few years. I remember back in 2008 when I showed Russell Peters standup to some friends they got so offended. And now the same friends enjoy standup of all sorts.

Here is the thing, I have interned at a much coveted "corporate" .
Not a new age cool one but you get my point. Mostly they take up people with with good acads. I can tell you this, most people in there from top to bottom are extremely boring. All are academic high flyers but 'chomu' to be precise. Like that kid who came to school with oiled up combed hair and sat in first bench. They will literally have a straight face even with the funniest of jokes.
Great to have on your CV but a free spirited person cannot survive there for more than 2 years, max.
