Dude I agree it’s so amazing. Every time someone asks me what kind of music I listen to, I show them this and if they’re cool, they love the song too and immediately add it to their playlist!
It's Bb major.. he plays the the B major (G min) pentatonic at the beginning of the solo, then switches back and forth with the Bb minor to give it that bluesy sound
This is a really unique version. Hearing some ideas in this one that I haven't heard on any other version before. Sounds like this was recorded before the Any Given Thursday version
Wow ! I've always been partial to this lovely song by Mr mayer and this time captured from a club concert .. just is so perfect, real, little grit, and not so polished ...beautiful 🎸suzannah
@Torikan good news though, he said he is tired of the pop thing so i cant wait to see what the new album will hold check out hotel bathroom song, something her wrote that might make the next album
yea he said that in the commentary thing for any given thursday, he even gave away free tickets in there near the end to the first 3 people who would log on to this site, he only did this because he said it all the way at the end
chopek on drums! hahaha nice capture. lucky you to have seen him pre-stadium venue, pre-Grammy, and pre-Jessica Simpson, and to have been smart enough to film (albeit shakily) a great song with prety good audio. Yeah, John looks pale, but it seems at that age, he was more concerned with getting his music exposed than properly taking care of himself. I think we can all agree he's doing alright now, even post-Jessica Simpson.
Wow... amazing video. Awesome solo. Just saw him in concert a few days ago and was hoping he'd play this song, and unfortunately he didn't. Still a great show tho.
sorry i meant as in in this generation, honestly how many blues players do you get today that did what jimi and srv did, they all innovated the blues into their own time period, john's pretty much doing that with his 'power blues'. you've got a mix of rnb, soul and blues in there
i don't know if he has the big dipper pups in his actual guitar but there in his sig. and he usually uses a ts9, some boss overdrives, and i think a bbe pedal. i forgot what it was called but separates your higher and lower frequencies, his got great reverb he might have '63 fender reverb head hidden somewhere other than that i dont know maybe a leslie?
Sorry, I wasn't trying to be a jerk. I was really impressed with the camera quality and sound quality, but it'd be nice if the camera stayed still for half a second. Obviously, your video's way better than mine of John Mayer. I don't claim to be a video pro.
sounds like you better go back with a tripod according to him/her...hurry its only been a few months since the concert finished mzybe his still there...
There's something about this video
The audio, quality, camera shaking and overall aesthetic that I love
thanks!
This song puts me in such a state words cannot describe.

I too reside in that same very state…
Here in 2020. This song is timeless.
In a hundred years my friend this song will still be timeless.
It's Bb major.. he plays the the B major (G min) pentatonic at the beginning of the solo, then switches back and forth with the Bb minor to give it that bluesy sound
He made an awesome song out of two chords and an epic solo!!
Erik Satie - Gymnopadie, the 1 and 4 do have some magic!

it's like time machine,love this
he played this song last night in cleveland, it was amazing
The way he played it in Cleveland in 2023
I freaking love this song. I really hope and pray that he plays it in Virginia Beach. Then I could die happy.

this video is raw as hell.
Never remove this video! Love it.

John Mayer-Assassin (Music Video) Up On RUclips
this is definitely a great song. supposedly it is a sequel to "City Love" right after 9/11. City Love was written before 9/11.
I wonder how much time there was in between this and Any Given Thursday. His soloing improves so much in between that time.
Great performance
Hello from 2020
Lupos in Providence, RI.....2002 i think.
awesome sound quality. very nice recording!
extremely surrounding solo.
i trip on it every single second.
EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC SOLO!!!! John Mayers best solo ever... rivaled with live Gravity?
Jon Master how about solo at Any Given Thursday
@@neonn9674 best one
Damn... 12 years ago :o
@@asmit_plays any given thursday is like 20 years ago, its even better than this one imo

2022 this is the oldest bideo i found on youtube and it is a masterpeice
Kind words. I’m glad you stumbled upon it :)
Great audio but the camera makes me dizzy
Philip Sayce... Good one!

Even better now! Would love to hear what you think of his stuff now
Wow, you must of had a camera crew for this one. The sound is awesome.

I think this was in 2002 at sometime.

fav song..:)
All-time favorite song :) This is awesome. What show is this?
When was this recorded?? 2001? 2002? Man what days those were.
my JM favorite song

gooooood !👍
if you want to go to the NewYork ,listening to this song.
Where is the place?
thx for sharing
awesome
im sure he just started with the string already bent and plucked it and came down. so it sounded like if it's crying.
yea, its based around gm pentatonic, if i'm not mistaken.
@Torikan Totally agree man I think he changed his style just for the chicks x_x
I don't think it was very hard for him. He doesn't force the blues or any of the Trio stuff. It's another outlet; not a musical burden
He does this for fun that’s why he wanted to do it
i wonder that too.
anybody knows the kinda effects he's using?
I’m pretty sure it’s some fort of tube screamer and then reverb and delay, nothing too fancy
haha, looks like you had a sick view. i wanna see him perform this.
i don't like john that much as a person either but as a fellow guitarist his probably got the greatest vocals and blues guitar playing

yeah, the camera work could be a little better.
Bb major
he was better then than he is now. Battle studies is crap compared to this. I think his style change was hard for him to adapt to.
um...its def Gm
i bet a chick filmed this... where are the close ups on fretwork???
