That’s a solid list my friend. I’ve been a YES head for over 45 years and I have to say that more or less on your choices. They’re hard to rank. I see you’ve included all of relayer and all of close to the edge which are two of yeses most brilliant work. You’ll have good pics from the yes album, going for the one, fragile, and no Trevor Rabin tunes. Very well done. 👍🏻 I think I’ll listen to some YES now.
Some great choices here! Every top that has Parallels included makes me happy. The Gates of Delirium and Sound Chaser are pretty high. They would be even higher for me (as Relayer is my favorite Yes album) , but it's okay for me. Into The Lens as honorable mention - wonderful, my favourite Drama track. No nonsense from post-Drama included. I have several disagreements. I'd drop I've Seen All Good People, not that exciting of a track. Instead I'd better include The Revealing Science of God. I'm also a bit sceptical about Tales From Topographic Oceans, but The Revealing Science of God is one of my favourite Yes tracks. Also, Siberian Khatru is my favourite CTTE track, here it's lowest of the three. And I would swap South Side of the Sky with Heart of the Sunrise. For me the latter is tiny bit overrated and South Side of the Sky is a bit overshadowed. It's my favourite Fragile track. Overall, I liked your selections more than I expected. And I expected some huge disagreements, knowing how sizeable Yes discography is.
Great picks overall, we have the same top 3. Interesting to see Parallels on here but I'm not mad since that track is underrated, I would've had some Tales but that might just be me My top 15 would look something like this: 15. In The Presence Of 14. Heart Of The Sunrise 13. And You And I 12. Machine Messiah 11. Fly From Here 10. To Be Over 9. The Remembering (High The Memory) 8. Ritual (Nous Sommes Du Soleil) (Live version from Yesshows) 7. Yours Is No Disgrace (Live version from Live At Uniondale) 6. Endless Dream 5. Siberian Khatru 4. Starship Trooper (Live version from Keys To Ascension) 3. Awaken 2. The Gates Of Delirium 1. Close To The Edge
Over 50 years of listening to Yes and I've grown to appreciate the 8-10 minute songs the most. My "top whatever" keeps changing, but my current top 3 would be (not in any particular order): To Be Over, In the Presence of, and, Starship Trooper. I think that these songs best capture the true spirit of Yes music, i.e., positive and uplifting, as well as taking you on a trip.
To be Over is so overshadowed by the other 2 Relayer songs and tho they’re amazing and Relayer is my favorite Yes album, To be Over is my favorite one on this record, just phenomenally gorgeous and maybe even my favorite Yes song, tho any song from my top 5 could be my favorite, often changing: Heart of the Sunrise, Awaken, Tempus Fugit and Endless Dream
@@klozz2080 I think that To Be Over is a hugely under-appreciated song, even by those who may think of themselves as Yes aficionados. And I agree with all those others you mention there. A few others in the same vein that I've always loved are: Perpetual Change, South Side of the Sky, And You and I, Siberian Khatru. Also, for me, I would mention another two songs from Magnification: Spirit of Survival, and Give Love Each Day.
@@tonyanderton3521 I'm new to Yes and haven't checked out Magnification yet (listened to debut throughout Talk with exception of Tales and Union). But I agree, all the other songs you mentioned are fantastic.
@@klozz2080 I love Magnification, I think it's underrated. It's got some lovely songs (albeit I don't think that the orchestral arrangements work every time). However, it does contain what has become one of my top-5 Yes songs - In the Presence Of. There's a great video of the song performed in the Symphonic Live 2001 tour (that's a great DVD, by the way, and highly recommended with great orchestration - a different orchestra from the studio version). I've provided a link below for In the Presence Of. Topographic Oceans is one of my favourite Yes albums; there's a lot of very beautiful music on it. It's challenging music, so allow several listens to get really familiar with it. Union, on the other hand, is, for me, disappointing and inessential; for completists only. Of the others, Keys to Ascension 1 and 2 (which followed Talk) has some great new studio songs on it (compiled on Keystudio, and well worth listening to), forget Open Your Eyes and go straight to The Ladder and Magnification. There's also some decent stuff on Fly From Here. The 3 most recent albums in the band's present iteration aren't essential, though the latest, Mirror to the Sky has a few nice songs. In the meantime, please try this wonderful performance of 'In the Presence Of' from Symphonic Live 2001. This demonstrates Yes at their best - uplifting, joyful and spiritual. Best wishes. ruclips.net/video/X_KDXoMB5wg/видео.html
@@tonyanderton3521 thank you, I'm actually planning to hear Tales after everything (okay maybe not Keystudio). But I think I will check out Union, The Ladder and Magnification next. The sound of Fly from Here resembles Drama or it's very different? Because I thought it was a nice record, even tho it doesn't have Anderson nor Wakeman (even if it's nothing like Drama I still want to hear it). Also the 2 different versions of the album are really that dissonant?
Fantastic list. My top 4 are the same as you, and thanks for recognizing the very underrated Parallels and Astral Traveller. I'm only missing some Perpetual Change and On the Silent Wings of Freedom, but thats me
Great list. YES is my favorite prog rock band. My list is probably like this: 1. The Gates of Delirium 2. Close to the Edge 3. Ritual 4. Heart of the Sunrise 5. Sound Chaser 6. Starship Trooper 7. Yours is No Disgrace 8. Roundabout 9. Wondrous Stories 10. Final Eyes 11. And you and I 12. Into the Lens 13. Then (from the second album) 14. Survival 15. The Ancient
I don’t understand why no one singles out remembering, for me this is the best song from Tales and one of my favorite songs due to its uniqueness (this is about my atypical tastes, otherwise the top is good, I would also mention the turn of the century that I loved)
And what would you advise me from the repertoire of the Camel group (except Lady Fantasy and Never Let Go. I've heard them), Supertramp and Rush (except Tom Sawyer. I heard her too)?
Camel it's my favorite band of all time, so I have a few recommendations, firstly you should listen to Moonmadness, their best album in my opinion, The Snow Goose a fully Instrumental album, also incredible. Since you already listen to Lady Fantasy, I'll recommend you Nimrodel and Freefall from the same album. From the 80s I'll say Stationary Traveller it's a must. And a few other songs, Echoes, Summer Lighting, Mystic Queen, Tell Me, First Light, Ice, Hymn to Her. Among many others
From Rush, my personal favorite is Permanent Waves, a great start. 2112 it's also a great album, and Hemispheres, their most prog album. And from Supertramp just listen to Crime of the Century, one of the greatest prog albums

I disagree, but Ritual is definitely a strong contender

Long Distance Runaround/The Fish is my sleeper pick. Back in the era when Yes could pen more focused tunes and not just 20+ minute epics

Close to the Edge, honourable mention.Arguably the greatest prog-rock composition.Couldn’t disagree more
Close to the Edge was number 1, honorable mentions were shown between 2 and 1.
