Essentially nonsense. I just performed this in my schools production as a pit musician. It’s basically meant to sound Chinese (probably not in an intentionally stereotypical or racist way) but my favourite theory that I read is that because this opera is from a child’s perspective, it’s sort of what the child understands is English or Chinese since he’s probably had such little exposure to it. Idk it’s a really cool piece regardless.
