  • The "New-To-Me" PRS SE Santana Model (3rd Generation, I believe)
    PRS SE Santana 2012 Model
(Another reason for my preference toward this version of the SE Santana Model is that it comes the closest to another of my favorite guitars...the Hamer Archtop Custom!)

    "Description
Carlos Santana’s influence as a PRS artist led to the development of our SE electric guitar series, which launched in 2001. In honor of that legacy, PRS is proud to offer the SE Santana model. The SE Santana features a 24.5” scale length on a 22 fret neck, the PRS patented molded tremolo, Santana “S” humbuckers, and the same Santana body shape silhouette as Santana’s revered American-made PRS models. We believe this guitar and its appointments honor Santana’s skill and style better than ever and offer players great quality and value.
    Carlos Santana.....
Carlos Santana is a Mexican and American musician who first became famous in the late 1960s and early 1970s with his band, Santana. They pioneered a fusion of rock and Latin American music. The band’s sound featured his melodic, blues-based guitar lines set against Latin. Also African rhythms featuring percussion instruments such as timbales and congas not generally heard in rock music. Santana continued to work in these forms over the following decades. He experienced a resurgence of popularity and critical acclaim in the late 1990s. In 2003 Rolling Stone magazine listed Santana at number 20 on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. He has won 10 Grammy Awards in addition to three Latin Grammy Awards. not sure how i stumbled upon this puppy, but i must get one! i have a fender tele of the same color as your Santana SE -- it's very light with a nice playing neck -- however I'm bored of it. i too will get a used one, which i habe in mind tomorrow. i love the ties to Santana, as he rules. live those bird inlays. i too prefer 22 frets, but.i guess oh well. the fender i have is 22. maybe though, once i try the SE tomorrow i won't be satisfied? i sort o think i will love it. i lile the idea of the wider neck. 10" radius is great too. yep, size 10 strings for.me too. thanks fir the great review!

nice presentation of the history of this piece of art; i think he wanted it to be as close to the colour of the sun as he could because his heart is for bringing healing to the people, and the yellow orange does that; the actual difference between the 3rd and 4th generation SE that you pointed out so well is a personal choice. I love both; am looking forward to hearing your next episodes; today i am going to put down my deposit on the SE Santana PRS (gen 4) AUS $1275 and a PRS Sonzera 20 AUS $ 1699. Have already purchased two CU 24 PRS core guitars, which i have to say i cherish. I bought my first guitar in 1979 in Brisbane the night after i first saw Carlos Santana play live. What a journey studying and following his music; LOve and peace to all.

You have a wonderful "Guide" in Carlos Santana as the Inspiration behind the beginning of your Guitar Journey. I think you will find the pickups on the Santana quite different from your CU 24's! A very different tone between the two pickup voicings. (I am curious though.... Why did you get two of the PRS CU 24 Guitars and not a Santana Model when he was the inspiration for you starting guitar to begin with?)

Great minds think alike I guess ( not sure my mind is that great really). I see you acquired an Ovation lately ( I have a celebrity with the super shallow back, and I like it alot).
That was my first electric, and that Santana was almost my second. I too love Carlos Santanas tone. And playing. In the end I decided I wasn’t rocking enough for it. But I am still interested, so enjoyed your review.
I always enjoy your videos. You are never in a hurry but I am never bored.
I am also a NAS flute guy as well. Not sure if you recall, but we have conversed before.
Loved the backstory on the guitar.
I watched a documentary on Santana recently ( I imagine you saw it),
in it he talked about playing at woodstock, having taken LSD given to him by, of course, Jerry Garcia. He wasn’t supposed to have gone on but they called him early and he was pretty fried.
He described the guitar neck as turning into a snake and it was coiling around all over the place while he was trying to play it.
Personally, I think I would have fled in panic, but somehow he played.
Well, those were things that happened back in those days. But I thought it was interesting.
Will look forward to more about the guitar.
Oh, I ended up with an Ibanez Jazz type guitar.
Mostly I wanted something different from the Ovation. But I will never amount to a Jazz guy. Not in this lifetime anyway!

Thank you so much! That Ovation was my 3rd. My 1st Ovation has gone to live with my youngest Son. A "Jazz" guitar isn't only for playing jazz. Just like any other instrument .... they are capable of doing anything that the Player wants. Enjoy! Ibanez makes a great guitar...and Thanks again.

Why on earth Paul put P90 pickups in guitar for presentation to Santana when he doesn't use them was ridiculous.

Thanks for watching! Paul probably had that guitar built....and possibly no others ready, when he was trying to make the connection when Carlos Santana came to town...just my guess.
