My associaton w/ David and Paul has been educational and positive and they have both been so supportive of me.
Yes; I built that test guitar while consulting for Collings, and David, Paul and I used it on the DGT pickup thing. But here's the thing about David and Paul: They are both VERY tonally aware. ( !!!) David has been in my shop, and shown me his ability to "squeeze" tone out of a messed up acoustic guitar to the point of making my jaw drop.
    E. Johnson showed me that too, way back when ... . I may have helped these folks, but they have all been my teachers (in the extreme). Paul and David are both generous, open, and real.
The reason the DGT is so good is their unending dedication to excellence, and the openness, and DRIVE ( both analytical and instinctual) that's needed to go above and beyond.
Thanks for mentioning my name, David. That's nice. What's more nice is to be gifted w/ knowing folks like you and Paul. There's not one HINT of mediocrity, settling for less, or complacency with those two.
Just 2 guys continously pushing the envelope. .... Pretty cool.

It's now 2023 and I am slowly getting back to playing and acquiring gear again and Tim is killing my GAS syndrome at the moment. Well I guess to Sweetwater I go this weekend.

In 1981, I started taking lessons from a phenomenally talented DC-area guitarist named Bill Kotapish (of 70s-80s prog rock band 'However'). Bill's main guitar was one of Paul's earlier builds, from his parents' house in Annapolis, MD.
It had nearly all the features of modern PRS guitars, including the exact same bird inlays and highly carved top, though the body was solid mahogany (no maple cap). The two pickups were old Gibson P90s, which I believe had been fitted into rosewood(?) cases and mounting rings. It also had Schaller's slightly more adjustable take on the Junior's one-piece stud-mounted bridge. The entire front back and neck had a beautiful mahogany stain, with a satin finish, and just a bit of woodgrain texture...organic in a sort of 70's / Alembic kind of way, but more "rock". It was SO beautiful and played like butter.
Okay, so maybe the DGT doesn't have the bird inlays or Paul's sweat on it, but it's phenomenal how modern guitar manufacturing techniques have advanced to the point that a guitar that a person might grow with for a lifetime is available for under $1K. What a great achievement!

I love this guitar so much I bought two. Not for a backup or any other reason but to compare two side beside for quality and playability. I bought two several serial numbers apart and they are flawless and the best most affordable PRS Ever!!! I am so hooked on this guitar because it eliminates the need for a tele, strat and a Les Paul for a gig. I did decide that the second guitar would just be used for open tuning stuff. I have to adjust the tremolo due to the lower string tension in open ED or G. Once I balanced the tremolo for all three tunings, and a small neck adjustment, that guitar is so powerful in helping me write and play riffs like no other guitar I have own. I can play all night and get every sound ever heard on record using this SE!!! I did do a mod in which in the middle pickup selection on the switch, I can lower the neck or bridge volume off without the sound shutting off with either one to zero. Now I can always stay in the middle switch and dial all bridge or neck with one volume off without losing anything. Just blending tone all the time with my ears and I love that. Much like Billy Gs pinstripe Gold Too, no selector switch, and it works best for me as that pickup selector is out of the way and a bit hard to get to when using coil tap and wanting a blend of bridge and neck…. Losing the switch is not a bad idea for this wonderful guitar.

Hey Tim! Hope you're doing well. Just watched your short about that amazing new HEX patch bay. In it, you touched on the Pete Cornish Soft Sustain for just a moment and it got me thinking about how nobody, at least to my knowledge, has ever done a YT deep dive on any iteration of the Soft Sustain pedals. I have zero understanding of what the platform is based on and have always been curious. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that dual pedal you have. You know, you've been my guitar guy since I bought that first John Waite solo album, back in 1982. I had bought that album assuming that Neil Giraldo would have played loads of guitar on it... my disappointment that he hadn't lasted until about 30 seconds after I dropped the needle on side one/lol. I've always been a massive fan of the work you did on After Here Though Midland, too. ...and all that brilliant guitar on Living in Oz. It still seems a miracle that I get to see you play so often. Between you and Buk, life is pretty damn great.

I reluctantly sold my PRS Custom 24, to help fund the Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s that I really wanted. It was the right decision as I absolutely love the Les Paul, but I do miss the PRS. I can't warrant buying another Custom 24, but this guitar definitely appeals as it's a quality PRS for an affordable price. I will check one out when I can. Also love David Grissom's playing and sound. Great video Tim!

Great video. First time I saw a PRS was at a Red Nugent show I think. I was hooked. I have a ten top for sale now. May have to buy one of these even though I have enough guitars. I guess you can never have enough.
I'm like Mr Grissom. I'm 71 and when I started playing there was nothing even close to the quality of a PRS SE on the market.
Plus, Dave was the player for Melloncamp who is from my hometown of Seymour Indiana. I went to school with Melloncamp cousin.
Great video. Thank you sir. I might have to buy one. I love the gold color and how it's simple and has the big frets, etc. ♥️🤘♥️

Not one PRS I ever tested impressed me because they all lacked dynamic capabilities, so I'm really not a PRS fan and never had the wish to own one. But this clean near stratlike sound from a humbucker was really good. So at least this pickup and elektric circuit seems to be worth a test.

Spotted Scott Nelson on bass in that clip from the Saxon Pub. Great player that I first met when he was playing with Doyle Bramhall Sr. and then again when he was with KWS. Great player.
The guitar will definitely be added to my collection.

Can't wait for mine to arrive, 2 guys I trust to give me good advice when it comes to guitars, Tim Pierce, and Dave Grissom... I pulled the trigger as soon as these went up in the UK, The SE line is killing the competition at the moment, took me so long to try one, every gig since, there is a PRS SE helping me, I Can't quite reach the core models financially yet but as soon as I can...
