I hope they add another option for the bird inlays on the gold top version for just a little bit more. That's the combo I personally want. The bird inlays increase your tone by like 69% or something.
I’ve wanted a gold top guitar since Joey started playing the Sorokin. Since I can’t afford Gibson, Sorokin, or the like, maybe this Gold DGT SE should be the one for me. Thoughts?
Well is it simply a gold top or the shape or Joey's tone? Cuz that narrows down the field quickly at this price point. The only thing w p90s is the Sire Larry Carlton LP shape albeit with a sparkly gold finish and you'll have $ leftover for a case or a Dane (well, almost). And before anyone jumps all over me, I got an H7V and though the qc can be hit or miss, my guy must've got laid the night before - it's fantastic for tat price. Otherwise, for shape, have you looked at the Epi std 50s LP gold w HBs? I A/Bed one in cherry burst against the LE 59 and again they're both a lot of guitar for the $. Both I tried were 2-piece bodies at that, but that std 50s neck was just a little too D for me, though. I'm gritting my teeth and budgeting for a genuine std 50s goldtop cuz it's got to be D. ALL OF THE ABOVE. This DGTSE looks like a great package, but I'm just too trad for that body shape - funny since they market it as 'vintage'.
I ordered min from Guitar Center in mid-January and they told me it will be available in mid-July. Bummer.... I cant wait to play it. I ordered the Gold Top of course.... did not realize it was going to be so popular.
If Pete and Lee (or anyone for that matter) want to do a deep dive into David Grissom’s music. Joe Ely’s Live at the Liberty Lunch is Essential listening, David shines on it. His work with Ely and Storyville is great.
Just buy it! I got mine about 3 weeks ago (Goldtop) and it was everything I had hoped for when I preordered. I did add the locking tuners and lampshade knobs for aesthetics but neither are needed. It stayed in tune perfectly. The pickups are amazing. I swap pickups in many of my guitars but no need on this. Best SE, closest to a Core, I've ever seen. My neck is ~1mm thinner than a 50s Standard if that helps but that 1mm makes a major difference on feel, neck is pretty much perfect and the frets seem a little larger than on other PRS models...
Were the lampshades (PRS?) a straight fit? I have the McCarty SE and purchased some locking tuners and PRS lampshades, but haven’t tried to install (or have them installed).
@@rcdubya yea they fit perfectly, sad they come on packs of 2 but I have a friend still waiting on his so I’ll give him the extra. The locking tuners are a super easy install. That being said the screws in mi DGT were slightly bigger than the ones that came with the tuners so I used the originals, fit perfectly.
Its mad I thought this would be 1000% for me to the point where had they of been listed before the uk guitar show id of bought one online, but at the show I got to play it and found the E to E string spacing was too wide for me and much preferred to new McCarthy se which I played right after the dgt. Morale of the story is, get yourselves into guitar stores first folks whenever you buy anything ahaha
Good advice. I have a DGT SE and I love it but you are quite correct it is better to try a model out first to see if you really do like it and if it really is a good fit for you. The problem with these SE DGTs (at least for the short term future) is that they are being snapped up on pre-order and it may be difficult to play one in person for a little while. That will settle down and there may be second hand opportunities down the line. My Gold Top won’t be leaving my hands anytime soon though.
@@ThePeps1776 @Peterthecoder D. Same for me. My new PRS S2 is also a great game changer. It’s never too late and we only live once!! 😉
I just bought one and looking forward! But there are many great mid price guitars out there, like the Sterling Valantine series. But in the end, only your hands and your mind can make the real difference! Ok!
Traded a Strat for an SE Semi- Hollow...nothing but impressed with it...the neck is thinner than I like and the pickups are hotter than I like and I still can't stop putting it down. Just a fun and incredibly versatile guitar. Thought I'd end up with a Paul's guitar, but it's a chunky neck...can't wait to play one of these...all I really wanted from PRS...low output pickups, a tremolo and non flashy / classic finishes
@@idontgrillonwed Funny, a week ago, I picked up a used SE Singlecut with Jr. style bridge. The neck is different from the Semihollow...a bit more vintage. Killer guitar...gonna swap P rails into it an it should do a great mix of Jr. and tele tones along with classic Les Paul tones...
Just an aside, but there is a whole bunch of Billy Gibbons in Mr DGts right hand technique and he admits to more than just a passing influence there. All those odd interval, quiet right hand double stops across the strings. Very old school blue kind of thing. Keep up guys, a couple of my favorite Brit Guitar killers here with Danish Pete & The Captain ! Boogie Chillins !
Davidhas a cool video where he talks about his tone and setup his main crunch is vol on 7, and for higher gain he goes to vol 10 then again his technique to get those sounds is flawless, you came pretty close with those last crucnhy licks before the end jam Pete 🤟😁
I believe I heard Grissom say he was chasing Duane Allman's tone. Listen to the Allman Brothers Band Live at The Fillmore East. That's THE tone (Duane, not Dicky).
The Captain and Danish Pete! Well done! Captain, what wah were you using towards the end? Oh my…my my my….killer tone! Pete, you were amazing to, the rotary was perfect! Loads of fun 👍🏼. So, I bought a DGT SE Goldtop from a very reputable dealer in the states, sadly mine came through with some issues…scratched frets, tiny neck joint paint chip missing, off center truss rod cover, not a very good factory set up, played like a truck. Luckily the dealer has been spot on to help me. The original is going back. Now on the wait for a replacement. Very surprised this happened with a PRS guitar. How did it get through PRS QC? I did have a chance to play it a little and hear the pu’s. Very good and different enough to have in the stable with the Gibsons and Fenders! Cheers! Thanks for the great demos.
i know how much effort dg put into making this model as close as his own flagship model. he even said he barely notices any difference in the feel. the prs video on the making of this guitar is a good watch..
DG had played entire gigs using just his signature SEs. He wanted to make sure they were gig-worthy/gig-ready. There are some vids of him playing his SE at Saxon (Austin TX) available online.
Imo this and the SE Paul's guitar are the 2 best SEs on the market. The Pual's guitar is more of a modern guitar- 25 inch scale length, 24 frets- which pushes that neck pickup back a little and give you a more modern tone and a design that's friendlier to down tuning- and it's higher out put pickups so you can get those "smooth, gainy" tones, as Capt. put it. But, when you split them, the remaining coil drops its output so it sounds like a real single coil instead of a split hb. Plus, you get the bridge Paul designed- which some love, some hate- but is used on some of their 4-5 G Core series guitars. I like it, I'm a stickler for intonation and I like that it's a fixed design, once you get it right- it stays that way. The only adjustment is a couple set screws which tilt the bridge one way or the other- simple and effective- I like it. If I could have both I would- I love playing classic rock and blues as well- and the DGT is definitely the guitar for it.
Truly a great guitar at any price. The only reason I don't have one is because I pranged my car and that's all my guitar money gone. Amazing guitar that does everything I want a guitar to do. A bit SG a bit Gretsch and a bit extra Spanky Tele. The bridge is clear, tight and aggressive with great transients, and the neck is throaty and chewy. And the fretwork and board is like playing on pillows. I think it is a bit of a game changer.
The Caps waa sound at the end was stellar on that. Seventies stylin' why worry about faster players if you have soul. Nobody seems to have this axe in the states
This is gonna be my forever guitar...the one that will be my last guitar (even though it likely won't be, you know how it is, lol!) I just can't decide on which model to get! I prefer the tobacco burst to the gold top (but only just a bit) but I prefer to moon/dot inlays to the birds inlays by a wide margin! Decisions, decisions....
Lee said anyone wants one of these beauties needs to be prepared to jump into a queue. He's not joking! To give an idea of how long that queue is, I ordered my Gold Top at the beginning of February and just got an email from Andertons today stating that PRS are hoping to deliver to them for the end of September... So, if you're thinking about getting a DGT SE for next Christmas, it might be wise to place your order PDQ! - I won't be surprised to get another email informing me of a further delay.
… I hope he did get the gold SE because it is actually better than the core. I sent my USA DGT back and bought the gold top SE. Slightly thinner neck and feels, plays and sounds sensational. This is now my main gigging guitar. Thoroughly recommend it…
as if the whole internet hasn't been patiently waiting for this one. doubtful australia will have many of these anytime soon but last time i ordered from the UK t arrived sooner then my local stuff does so lets see. that gold top is calling me
Would have liked to have heard more from Pete on why this is best SE guitar PRS have done. He's obviously happy with the play and feel, but I wanted more explanation.
I believe the sentiment comes from this particular SE model being so very close in feel, vibe and tone to the core model for 1/4 of the price :-) This and the SE 594 model are the newest developments within the SE range and it would appear the guitar community reviewing these models believes there has been a noticeable step up in their production values. The public forums will no doubt let us know if this is for real...
I'm guessing that's it's because of the mccarty body with trem, and he likes the pickups more than the mccarty se. The bridge vol knob being the closest to the hand is extremely nice. Also the look of it maybe vibes with him more. I think I'd rather have a 245 or mccarty. Don't love the sound of the dgt se over youtube, but I'd have to play them all irl.
This PRS is the only guitar in the entire world that i would bother to upgrade from my Revstar to 🎸 *But im happy with my Revstar for now but might start saving adter hearing Pete demo this beaut 🥳
Yep. Other than an extremely rare Korean made semi-hollow Koa SE I got years ago, from a dealer that commissioned a private run w/ tons of upgrades in it, the DGT SE is the next best one I’ve ever tried. Nearly indistinguishable from the core version. I prefer the flamed version over the gold one though, so I guess I’m a poser. :)
Thanks guys for another in-depth tone comparison. 🙌 However it's killing me to see all these demos You see, like a fool I waited 3 days after their release of the SE DGT to order mine from a main brick and mortar in the states and initially I was told on the outside that I would see it 6/23. When I heard this co. was facing some major financial problems again, I called to check on my order and was told it would be August earliest. Well I contacted the manufacturer directly, I live in Maryland as well and was told that new SE models take a good 6 to 9 months to see it. Now I understand why they flooded all the retail locations a fine business move to garner need and desire from the public It just gets me no end to see all these demos while the consumers have to wait 6-9 months. I only hope that after all that time that my guitar will be defect free and as good as Mr Grissom said he wants them. Sorry guys just had to vent. I love all of your demos and watch every single one. Keep up the good work and sorry to vent.
@@alee7275Still very happy with the guitar. I have a SE Custom 24 and a CE24 so I already like this shape. I played a DGT at Thomann and immediately liked the chunkier neck (50s Standard but a little slimmer) and the tone versatility is just great fun to play. Even the split-coil sounds very good.
Other than the coil splits it's not a million miles away from my 2009 SE Custom 22, which also has moon inlays. I fitted new pickups and a push-push coil split on the tone knob, plus locking tuners. Remains a very good guitar. The one big change since then is that the SE models had a flat top back then.
The volume control placement makes PRS the only brand I really pay attention to now Gotta have it right there where I can reach it without thinking (So I shan't be looking at any 594 models)
This is the first PRS shaped object I have really liked the sound of ... I liked the idea of them...24-08 SE ect....but never with bonded with the sound. Got to get one... thanks for draining me wallet 🤠
I bet I know what y'all are playing through. I can hear it and I'm going to get me one too. I almost bet that's the Cloudburst. Oh man is that pedal dreamy. I have to get one as soon as I finish paying all the damn taxes then that pedal Is Next! Thanks for another super review.👍
Awesome! It's really exciting to see Andertons' take on the DGT SE! Lee pretty much summed up my attitude to PRS's traditional flame tops and bird inlays - they're just a bit too ornate for me. But the gold-top DGT with its crescent moon inlays was a revelation and it's the first PRS I've instantly really liked. So, when I saw Tim Pierce and David Grissom introduce the SE model on RUclips, I placed my order for one with Andertons straight away. David Grissom says the gold top is his favourite of the two options - as he puts it, he's a meat and potatoes kind of guy and likes its straightforward styling. Although I don't eat meat, I guess I must share his taste in guitars! 😉I can hardly wait for my order to arrive! 😎
Do you guys prefer this over the 594 SE? I have a Schector SOLO 2 and a ESP EC-401 wanting a 3rd guitar either this style or another les paul style like 594.

Aggghhhh! Pete’s recommendation is hard to ignore so I’m now torn over which PRS SE to get for my 60th birthday. Paul’s SE, McCarty SE or the DGT SE. Any thoughts on what to rule out?
My gold top DGT SE is a very dark red tint clear coat. It looks black a lot of the time because it is so dark but if you look closely or under bright light you can see the grain through it on the body and neck. Can tell how many pieces were used.

His solo on Letter to LA is just stellar.
❤ Just ordered one from you based on this review. Can’t wait…
@@MarbsMusic Thanks. I got the Kluson locking tuners. You?
@@rcdubya I got the PRS SE locking as they look like the Core one and I actually like the locking mechanism.
The larger frets sounds great as I prefer jumbo to medium.
Love it, ordered one yesterday
I’ve watched a lot of your videos but that may have been your jam so far. Keep rocking it. 🤘
I'm not a guitar player, wish I was, and I love watching your videos. I don't think you can over-use the Cloudburst pedal.
It's never to late to learn.
Never to late to start, I am 45 and played when I was a kid. I picked it back up and am looking into 1on1 lessons now.
@@ThePeps1776 @Peterthecoder D. Same for me. I’ve started with guitar when I was at college then played bass for years in a band (as a hobby) and now…well…I’m 45 and I’ve started to re-learn guitar from scratch! My new PRS S2 is also a great game changer. It’s never too late and we only live once!! 😉
I started at 43 with my son. Been 5 years of fun. Get yourself an axe.
I’m 72 get a git.nothing says you gotta follow the rules,.
I actually like having both now - a chunky neck and a thin neck. It keeps carpal tunnel at bay.
Lee's playing has improved a lot, he has become a groovy player now. :)
Davidhas a cool video where he talks about his tone and setup his main crunch is vol on 7, and for higher gain he goes to vol 10 then again his technique to get those sounds is flawless, you came pretty close with those last crucnhy licks before the end jam Pete 🤟😁
it seems for every demo, you play with the best model until the next demo lol
that's marketing '"good for the price" :)
that's all
I loved Dave's playing in Storyville. I'm a poser. I ordered my flame top today. Cant wait to receive it.
I watched the PAUL N DAVID PRS utube video on this guitar. David explains all the tone values an why the mid tones are what he was after.
Oh my, when Pete kicks in that fuzz!
It may not be a purple tele, but I think Pete definitely connected with the gold top here. That’s actually says a lot.. I’m sold.
Great jam guys. Pick ups are brilliant. :)
I think that the DGT SE is the best in the entire SE range.
Agree, I have a few and this is head and shoulders above the rest
Truly a great guitar at any price. The only reason I don't have one is because I pranged my car and that's all my guitar money gone.
Amazing guitar that does everything I want a guitar to do. A bit SG a bit Gretsch and a bit extra Spanky Tele.
The bridge is clear, tight and aggressive with great transients, and the neck is throaty and chewy.
And the fretwork and board is like playing on pillows.
I think it is a bit of a game changer.
Love that goldtop!!!!
The Caps waa sound at the end was stellar on that. Seventies stylin' why worry about faster players if you have soul. Nobody seems to have this axe in the states
This is gonna be my forever guitar...the one that will be my last guitar (even though it likely won't be, you know how it is, lol!)
I just can't decide on which model to get!
That sounds killer, very impressed
I don’t think Pete has ever gotten a better tone. I hope Pete owns a Core DGT, or at least one of these. 🤘
… I hope he did get the gold SE because it is actually better than the core. I sent my USA DGT back and bought the gold top SE. Slightly thinner neck and feels, plays and sounds sensational. This is now my main gigging guitar. Thoroughly recommend it…
as if the whole internet hasn't been patiently waiting for this one. doubtful australia will have many of these anytime soon but last time i ordered from the UK t arrived sooner then my local stuff does so lets see.
that gold top is calling me
great playing Captain ! You've gotten quite musical !
Awesome episode guys. Is this track available somewhere yet??
Would have liked to have heard more from Pete on why this is best SE guitar PRS have done. He's obviously happy with the play and feel, but I wanted more explanation.
I believe the sentiment comes from this particular SE model being so very close in feel, vibe and tone to the core model for 1/4 of the price :-) This and the SE 594 model are the newest developments within the SE range and it would appear the guitar community reviewing these models believes there has been a noticeable step up in their production values. The public forums will no doubt let us know if this is for real...
Yes considering how much he loved the guitar this is one of the shortest videos they’ve ever done
A good presentation always leaves you wanting more. Stand by for part 2.
I need a Silver Sky with the Moons, love those things
Wish they made the SE version in more colors
This PRS is the only guitar in the entire world that i would bother to upgrade from my Revstar to 🎸
*But im happy with my Revstar for now but might start saving adter hearing Pete demo this beaut 🥳
Wish the sunburst had the moons. Not a fan of the birds.
I really, really need that Cloudburst pedal
Thanks guys for another in-depth tone comparison. 🙌 However it's killing me to see all these demos
You see, like a fool I waited 3 days after their release of the SE DGT to order mine from a main brick and mortar in the states and initially I was told on the outside that I would see it 6/23.
When I heard this co. was facing some major financial problems again, I called to check on my order and was told it would be August earliest.
Well I contacted the manufacturer directly, I live in Maryland as well and was told that new SE models take a good 6 to 9 months to see it.
Now I understand why they flooded all the retail locations a fine business move to garner need and desire from the public
It just gets me no end to see all these demos while the consumers have to wait 6-9 months.
I only hope that after all that time that my guitar will be defect free and as good as Mr Grissom said he wants them.
Sorry guys just had to vent. I love all of your demos and watch every single one.
Keep up the good work and sorry to vent.
Just bought one of these. Wow, what a great instrument.
Hey there! I’m about to pull the trigger on either one of these or a McCarthy 594. Are you happy with your purchase? What swung you toward the DTG?
@@alee7275Still very happy with the guitar. I have a SE Custom 24 and a CE24 so I already like this shape. I played a DGT at Thomann and immediately liked the chunkier neck (50s Standard but a little slimmer) and the tone versatility is just great fun to play. Even the split-coil sounds very good.
Can anyone name the pedal used by Lee at 2:00
Sounds like an octave fuzz, can’t tell which one though!
The DGT neck is also pretty different.
@@PaulCooksStuff that's a given
The volume control placement makes PRS the only brand I really pay attention to now
Gotta have it right there where I can reach it without thinking
(So I shan't be looking at any 594 models)
This is the first PRS shaped object I have really liked the sound of ...
I liked the idea of them...24-08 SE ect....but never with bonded with the sound. Got to get one... thanks for draining me wallet 🤠
Nice guitars. That Argo sounds Awesome!!
COOL GRISSOMESQUE OPENING JAM!
Good choice!!
Ordered me a gold one as well mate…here in the states we’re backordered 6 months… crazzy!
Do u still like it?
@@che2335 Absolutely! It's one of my top two guitars (the other is a Tone Fox Elcaster).
How different is the feel of the neck compared to the JM neck profile on the SE Silver Sky?
Pete got his Cloudburst! Sounds freakin' awesome but I looked up the price -
25 years and 20 of them over which inlays to use on the fretboard.
Do you guys prefer this over the 594 SE? I have a Schector SOLO 2 and a ESP EC-401 wanting a 3rd guitar either this style or another les paul style like 594.
Beautiful sound just sounds like an old Gibson very warm for a PRS some like prefer the brighter PRS sound .Sounds like a vintage Les Paul gorgeous guitar pro instrument to
Yes, but when is a shipment arriving in the UK?
Aggghhhh! Pete’s recommendation is hard to ignore so I’m now torn over which PRS SE to get for my 60th birthday. Paul’s SE, McCarty SE or the DGT SE. Any thoughts on what to rule out?
Sounds like we're in same boat. Let me know
Soon I believe that sheriff amp pedal would be mine 850K 😈🤘🏼that would be so needed right there on my pedalboard
Would love to hear it side by side with a Se 24-08
Just noticed you can really hear the click of the pickup switch. That's odd, I can't say I've noticed that before on other guitars
😆haaa haaa!!! I knew it! Pete just said y'all were using and going to have to use the Cloudburst all of the time. I agree.👏👏👏
So DGT SE or CE 24 for my first PRS? I'm ok with the price of either. If the CE 24 is worth the additional cost.
Sound great...I just wish there were more color options....namely vintage cherry, dark cherryburst and orange. Not a fan of these two finishes.
The guitar looks awesome, but I must admit I'm also interested in Pete's orange watch!
Some kind of G-Shock?
I love the gold top and how affordable it is!
Sensacional trabajo
I did have to laugh at @10:52 in response to “that’s a good sound, it *just*…” then names four different pedals
I'm digging this one. And I don't even like PRS. Well, there's always a first time...
I wonder how many people watching or making this video have actually cranked up the CD Storyville - A piece of your Soul on a high quality Stereo.
With reference to the 2 volume controls, with the toggle in the middle position, is it possible to reduce the volume of each pickup independently ?
There are two volume knobs so I would say yes.
Great guitars but I'm more interested in Pete's Jordans. What version are they? :)
I think the moon inlays make the difference in the tone. 🙂
4:15 oops! ESP?
Unless I misses it, you did not mention the coil-tap
I wish there was a Prs se vela hollow.
Thanks for the review. Which colour is on the back? Dark red on the goldtop and Black/brown on the Tobacco?
My gold top DGT SE is a very dark red tint clear coat. It looks black a lot of the time because it is so dark but if you look closely or under bright light you can see the grain through it on the body and neck. Can tell how many pieces were used.
