I’ve had my gold top for about 2 months now and I can honestly say the hype behind these guitars are well deserved. It’s definitely my favorite guitar I’ve purchased in a YEARS. The only things I’ve done to make it that much more perfect for me is a quick setup, locking tuners and swapped out the speed knobs for top hats. It’s so good now!!
The main things I love about that PRS SE DGT is the jumbo style frets and moon inlays. I like do like their birds inlay too but I always preferred the moon inlays 😊

I concur, there is definitely something unique with this SE (PRS) than any other SE, as you mentioned. I have a few SE experiences, sold each. Purchased a Tobacco version from Sweetwater; made the 5 hour drive, one way, to try/play etc prior to actually committing. I even compared to three McCarty’s (SE, S2 and Core); to me, this played/sounded better (better = personal subjective). I wanted to compare to DGT Core; however, all were OOS (Out Of Stock). As a bedroom/hobbyist type of player, this coupled w/ new FM9 Turbo, checks a lot of boxes. I got one back in February. Upgraded to the SE locking tuners and some lampshade knobs. I’ve owned a core an, S2, and now 7 SE’s. Every SE I’ve had has hit waaaay above their price point. Since I got my SE DGT I haven’t really played anything else. Hands down the best guitar I’ve ever owned. I’ve been lucky, never had one that was anything less than perfect fit, finish and they’ve all been set up perfectly. I highly recommend getting your hands on one. 🤘🏻
Love the soloing over "Sorrow," that song always reminds me of your sound. Also a great song to throw the solo from Beat It over, same progression more or less

PRS current SE line up looks really interesting. The DGT looks sick. What really has me curious though is the new SE CE. The CE is one of my two favourite guitars. I might have to go the same route as you and get one to compare to my USA CE24. Great demo as usual!
Thanks for mentioning the difference in the neck profiles, now it makes more sense to me why I see so many people selling these after owning them for a couple weeks.
Just got one today, been playing for about 6 straight hours, and am absolutely loving it. Among PRS guitars, the DGT has the feature set that checks all the boxes for me, chunkier neck profile, trem, love the control set and layout, and the gold top with moons is cool and classy, looks great without being overly "blues lawyer-ed" out with fancy schmancy wood and inlays and all. Also, like the McCarteys (DGT is based around McCartey), I prefer the nickel pickup covers to plastic coils exposed. That never looks right on humbuckers to me. I don't have any other guitars with frets this big, but it's really comfortable and feels great to me. Anyway, just taking a break from playing mine, thought I'd watch some videos of other people playing one. BTW, is that a rack full of ADA MP-1s behind you? I had one of those in the late 80s, it was pretty awesome.

I have a synergy syn2 and I’d like to be able to sync that with the Friedman and my board. In the process of building a new board from scratch and these videos help me make choices on gear. I’m tossed up on a chorus modulation oedal,mead a wazacraft Dimension and loved it but it died last week after five years . The H90 is out of my price range and I’m not a menu scrolling player. I need a nice modulation pedal that gets the job done. Tossed up what to buy. So many choices. I looked at the Strymon ola but it might not be for me. Can you make a suggestion? I loved my dimension, it did something special. Thoughts on the crazy circuit pedal just out? I currently use a neunaber illlume for reverb…love it….any help greatly appreciated. 👍
Love my DGT SE, and like you it’s not my first PRS not my first SE either. Highly recommend it to anyone who has GAS. However, at full disclosure; it will not suppress CORE gas.

I look at the SE and S2 models as workingman musician guitars. The Core models are a couple of steps up and mainly about some details for some may not be worth it, but if you have one, you'll appreciate it.

Glad you like it, I decided to wait until I sell my LP or Musicman before getting another. Is the neck D shaped, C shaped, V shaped? Guess I ought to go into a shop and find out. I put a Suhr Thornbucker II into my Waghorn bridge, like the DGT its Alnico II, so be interesting to see how PRS SE have done with it especially as DGT runs mainly off the bridge pickup. I have become ultra critical against my Waghorn, my 2nd playing guitar now is Gibson LP DC with JJGuitarpickups J90s and they wont be going anywhere. Let us know the neck shape please
I had the PRS SE Santana single cut, I just couldn't jel' with the trem'. I'm an amateur, so it just coulda' been me. Love the look of this guitar, and you make er' sound killer.
Wow.. What a beautiful guitar.. If I were buying a new guitar it would be between this and the new S series from Ibanez with EVO frets and that gold pink color from the Lab series.. It's very cool too and really thin and lightweight which I love.. That reminds me, I am dying to see you do a new video on the South African company fiber guitar you have.. I can't remember the name of it since i"m old and the 70's are killing me.. 😛 It sounds great man and I love love love that gold finish.. Locking tuners and I would be set.. I'd replace the net with a graphtech if it's not already bone or something besides plastic.. Very cool sir.. My DGT SE has a similar weirdness in that exact same spot with the nut. I ended up filing it smooth with a glass nail file and now you can't tell it was ever an issue. But it's interesting that we both had that exact flaw.

This looks very nice Leon, great tones as well from your set up and fingers! I never thought about PRS, so expensive, but you get what you pay for. I looked at the Acoustics, then a shop in the UK was selling the SE HOLLOW BODY II PIEZO in Peacock Blue burst for almost half price, so I got one, much smaller than my ES335 Copy and Pat Metheny Ibanez, so feels odd, will have to get used to it, very loud high output, lovely clean tones through the SY1000. That Gold Top is lush!!

Hi Leon. I had mine for about the same time 6 months or so. The neck is Cool. I learned to play on an 58 Les Paul junior and the neck on it was on the thick side.My DGT is more Thiner and I notice it's a little more flatter after the 12th fret It think Divid wanted it that way. I was just wondering how much better is your core model pickups. I like the way the SE version pickup sound By the way. Not sure but I think they were going after the 57 PAF Sound for the most part. I sent back my core DGT and purchased the DGT SE for a third of the price. Did not like the neck carve of the core but the SE is great. To me the neck isn’t as chunky as the core but that may be because it is a touch wider. However my gold top DGT SE is a keeper. Very happy to gig this guitar. Thanks for your vids Leon.

I have had my SE DGT since launch and there's so much to love: it sounds great, feels great to play, and really stable tuning. I just have one complaint and can't get over it: how it looks! I got a tobacoo burst as it was the only one in the shop at the time. It's the worst looking one I've seen of all of them, really lifeless and dull. It has however confirmed that I will likely buy a Core DGT for my 40th which is not too far away!

My Sunburst DGT SE has the same flaw with the nut being a little too narrow and not aligning with the end of the fretboard/neck. It doesn't affect playability, but as you mentioned, if I ever replace the nut, it will likely resolve at that point. But I also love the guitar, and think it punches way above it's weight class.
Yeah it's the sort of thing I don't personally care about but need to mention in a vid like this. Out of the box this thing is pretty close to perfect.

Would you mind making a video about decking the bridge? I plan to deck mine, and I do not know whether the PRS design will require additional considerations and/or work as compared to a six-screw Fender bridge.
With that SE MODEL sounding that dayum good, i don't even want to hear a CORE MODEL!!! IT JUST CANT SOUND ANY BETTER!!! The CORE MODEL must be all about the look of it.
The fit and finish on the core is even tidier than this, and it's got a slightly different top carve with much better pots/jacks/hardware. Definitely diminishing returns price wise though!
Hi Leon. I'm thinking of buying the Amperium Live, do you think they will support the unit and make it even better with firmware updates? I like the tweakability of it, as it's better than most, but not as mind boggling as my FM9. 🙂

Looks nice ... What are the necks like on a prs ? Always liked the look and style but I've not played on one for some reason. Seems pretty sweet for the price... The is it worth 5 X more question.... the nicer ones are always worth the extra.... Like an Lp studio v a Lp custom. 🤘
@@LeonTodd Agreed. And with the current 20% off all SE models, it's almost an impulse buy at $560. I've always wanted a CE 24, but never pulled the trigger. Just wondering if these will be a close enough approximation of the more expensive models.
Technology and demand these days is fantastic for guitar players, new & old. Manufacturers can no longer produce cheap terrible products. The same quality of this PRS SE DGT is way better than what a Gibson and Fender core line produced 5 years ago.
It's interesting to me that all of the American brands are starting to produce pro instruments under their 'budget' branding - sometimes garnering better reputations than their prestige lines. They used to be very much the entry into the brand (with the exception of the Japan only models). In fact they seem to belatedly be adopting the Japanese model of offering the same guitars at different price-points rather than just 'the original' vs the 'budget lookalike'.
Here for my regular "the dgt se gold top has no bird inlays, it has regular dots/moon and therefore is one of the very few PRS models worth anybody's time"
Hahaha I've already burnt that bridge when I smirked at him while he was trying to figure out a slide riff at a guitar show (didn't even realize it was him and the smirk was more a "yeah I feel you dude" than anything malicious). Ran into him later and he goes "you were the guy laughing at me!". He was pretty cool after that though :p @@ToneDeth.
Yeah I've seen people refer to him as "arrogant" or "stand-offish" but i think he's just a guy who genuinely cares about what he does. When I told him my main guitar is a 245 he asked "you like it? Is there anything you'd change about it?". Love that!@@ToneDeth.
As far as I'm concerned, there isn't such a thing as the "best" PRS SE model, it depends on what you're planning to do with it. For me, the lack of birds and 24 frets is a dealbreaker.

Yeah this is more traditional PRS to me. I actually like that the core is different, kinda Strat like with the neck?
Yeah, I got one of these a week ago, and the neck is THICK compared to almost anything else. Bummer.

My DGT SE has a similar weirdness in that exact same spot with the nut. I ended up filing it smooth with a glass nail file and now you can't tell it was ever an issue. But it's interesting that we both had that exact flaw.

This looks very nice Leon, great tones as well from your set up and fingers! I never thought about PRS, so expensive, but you get what you pay for. I looked at the Acoustics, then a shop in the UK was selling the SE HOLLOW BODY II PIEZO in Peacock Blue burst for almost half price, so I got one, much smaller than my ES335 Copy and Pat Metheny Ibanez, so feels odd, will have to get used to it, very loud high output, lovely clean tones through the SY1000. That Gold Top is lush!!
The HB SE's look mighty tempting too :P

Hi Leon. I had mine for about the same time 6 months or so. The neck is Cool. I learned to play on an 58 Les Paul junior and the neck on it was on the thick side.My DGT is more Thiner and I notice it's a little more flatter after the 12th fret It think Divid wanted it that way. I was just wondering how much better is your core model pickups. I like the way the SE version pickup sound By the way. Not sure but I think they were going after the 57 PAF Sound for the most part. I sent back my core DGT and purchased the DGT SE for a third of the price. Did not like the neck carve of the core but the SE is great. To me the neck isn’t as chunky as the core but that may be because it is a touch wider. However my gold top DGT SE is a keeper. Very happy to gig this guitar. Thanks for your vids Leon.

This difference matters because your phrasing would make the current SE Santana a "Santana SE", which is the name of the previous and original era of SE guitars that bears no resemblance to this era (which has spanned more than a decade thus far). I understand that damn near everyone on the Internet is saying and writing it incorrectly, for whatever reason, but this a scenario in which syntax genuinely matters.

In the other hand, Gretsch guitars can rock, for sure. They’ve got such an incredible dynamic range and note separation, it’s insane. Quite amazing for crunch.

I have had my SE DGT since launch and there's so much to love: it sounds great, feels great to play, and really stable tuning. I just have one complaint and can't get over it: how it looks! I got a tobacoo burst as it was the only one in the shop at the time. It's the worst looking one I've seen of all of them, really lifeless and dull. It has however confirmed that I will likely buy a Core DGT for my 40th which is not too far away!

My Sunburst DGT SE has the same flaw with the nut being a little too narrow and not aligning with the end of the fretboard/neck. It doesn't affect playability, but as you mentioned, if I ever replace the nut, it will likely resolve at that point. But I also love the guitar, and think it punches way above it's weight class.
Yeah it's the sort of thing I don't personally care about but need to mention in a vid like this. Out of the box this thing is pretty close to perfect.

Would you mind making a video about decking the bridge? I plan to deck mine, and I do not know whether the PRS design will require additional considerations and/or work as compared to a six-screw Fender bridge.

IT JUST CANT SOUND ANY BETTER!!! The CORE MODEL must be all about the look of it.
The fit and finish on the core is even tidier than this, and it's got a slightly different top carve with much better pots/jacks/hardware. Definitely diminishing returns price wise though!

Looks nice ... What are the necks like on a prs ? Always liked the look and style but I've not played on one for some reason. Seems pretty sweet for the price... The is it worth 5 X more question.... the nicer ones are always worth the extra.... Like an Lp studio v a Lp custom. 🤘

Technology and demand these days is fantastic for guitar players, new & old. Manufacturers can no longer produce cheap terrible products. The same quality of this PRS SE DGT is way better than what a Gibson and Fender core line produced 5 years ago.
This is way tidier than most of my USA Gibson's.

It's interesting to me that all of the American brands are starting to produce pro instruments under their 'budget' branding - sometimes garnering better reputations than their prestige lines. They used to be very much the entry into the brand (with the exception of the Japan only models). In fact they seem to belatedly be adopting the Japanese model of offering the same guitars at different price-points rather than just 'the original' vs the 'budget lookalike'.

As far as I'm concerned, there isn't such a thing as the "best" PRS SE model, it depends on what you're planning to do with it. For me, the lack of birds and 24 frets is a dealbreaker.
