I bought my one and only PRS because of David Grissom. (a custom 22 with dragon 1st gen pickups) and I still play it live all of the time. 1997 gold top with a stop tail. Thanks Tim for all that you do. I’m a big fan!
There is always something that no one can feel in the video but is the first thing that you feel when you open a new PRS guitar and is that sweet smell of lacquer or whatever it is, but is amazing that smells like magic, at that moment is when you say OH BOY!
Grissom is a “super hero” of mine. Had the pleasure of seeing his guitar clinic at PRS Experience 2010, and many years later saw him live with Robben Ford. Simply put... the best show I’ve ever been to. Love his signature model PRS!
I'm even more blown away to discover THAT was your house, Tim! Your foyer is bigger than my entire dwelling. For some strange irrational reason I had the impression that you lived in a small cottage sized house in suburban LA. Wow! And beautiful guitar. 😊
Got a wood library DGT a month ago and love it! Have many other core PRS guitars but think the DGT pickups are my favorites. Thanks David and Paul for creating such a great guitar.
I've gotten to Austin a few times for that gig and it's is totally worth it. Magnificent sound and playing and always great band. As noted, Carter is badass as well. Got to hear trio with Glenn Fukunaga in room with PA only for vocals and it was as great an amp in room sound as I've ever heard.
Mike Bruns i met carter when he first moved to austin for the UT jazz program 20 years ago. Im about 18 yrs older than him but we hit it off and he used to invite me to these house jams off campus the jazz program people would throw-even back then carter was amazing. i rarely played at those jams cuz i was out of my depth but carter was kind enough to invite me. He recco’d me to sub for another thing he couldnt do as well. just a great guy. watching his playing develop over the years has been incredible. to see him throwing down with grissom without breaking a sweat was killer.
I have to thank you for an awful lot, but I'll keep it as short as possible. I played in bands in the 70's and 80's. I stopped when I got injured and needed metal in my spine to hold it together. Got bad advice from a bad doctor and was on opioids for 28 years. I decided I needed to quit the pain meds and start playing again. Went through two years of horrible sickness until I finally got the right doctor and got detox meds. During the bad time I wanted to get back to playing really bad. I was always the rhythm guitarist back then and decided I wanted to learn new stuff like leads I hadn't tried before. While I was so sick, I got through it by searching youtube for videos that would help me. I went throu8gh a lot of videos, and eventually the algorhythms led me to you, Pete Thorn, Rick Beato, Phi X and some more. You remind me a lot of the old jazz cats. I grew up in jazz. My dad was Red Kelly, a noted jazz bassist. All those cats were like you. Cool temperaments and just nice guys all around. The bigger they were, the nicer they were. I met every A-lister in the 50's through the 70's because of my dad. And you reminded me of those times, when I was most comfortable in life. So I watched all of your videos that came up and even looked some up. They got me through the toughest times I've been through in y life. I'd even bet they are tougher than most go through, but even then I am sure some people had it worse. But thanks man. And now I will finally be starting the right doses of detox meds this week. I'll soon be able to play again, and I can't wait. I've dog-eared all your videos to help with that. Pete has been a lot of help, too. And Phil X just reminds me of me when I was younger so you are all a blast to watch. Those videos probably kept me alive. Bo kidding, and not trying to be overly dramatic, but the last doctor I saw told me I could have died being taken off those meds cold turkey like that. (I told her it felt like I was dying, but what could I do? Too sick to do anything about it and I live alone.) But I got through it so far, and it's a big thanks to you and the guys, but especially you. I will end this with a video of my dad playing bass just so you can see where I came from. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed your videos. ruclips.net/video/DGNONKjHDXc/видео.html
Saw David many, many times with Storyville in late 90s. He’d do a solo before “What Passes For Love” that blew me away every time I heard it. Tim shows a recent video of him doing a small piece of it at the Saxon Pub in Austin around the 9 minute mark.
The beginning of “What passes for love” by Storyville has always giving me goosebumps. Love that tone and seeing him playing it live at Antone’s is something I’ll never forget 🥰
I think this is such a positive and happy way of the past finally paying off. So awesome to see, as well as just a great story to hear! Wonderful, Tim!
He and my wife are both blissfully unaware of the bromance Ive had with David for the past 3 decades or so. I absolutely love his guitartistry and he’s easily in the top 10 players that I’d like to have a dinner and conversation with. They’re all great, Tim, but this was a particularly great episode for me, brother.
Slightly Thicker body, jumbo frets, volume control sensitivity and full control of these amazing pickups makes my 2015 DGT a go to guitar. Mine came with a rosewood neck that vibrates endlessly in the hand. A winner.
Great interview Tim & David, thanks. Wow Tim, love your hall, it's like something in a movie! Standing in for Dickie Betts after a 45 min sound check, that's a tall order David.
That was a wonderful interview, thank you so much Tim for touching bases with such a wonderful musician. I love hearing the stories behind instruments and awesome musicians like David. I love the “Bros” story! Yes, let’s have longer people!
Great interview and gorgeous guitar! I have a DGT Standard (all mahogany) but it sounds very similar to the regular version and it’s such a well-designed guitar. Love everything about it.
you always have great interviews, i have to hand it to you this is one guitar i have to have The almond brothers Dickey Betts a great person I met him back stage in utica. ny southern hospitality at its finest a stand up person
That open string stuff Dave does @15:23 was the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while! I usually hear it used sparingly by most players but he has complete mastery over the technique. Love the vid Tim, thanks for the content!
Grissom is great. I really liked his sound, and didn't want a Gibson when I started playing again, so I took a chance on a beat-up gold top DGT, and love its feel, and its sound. It's got that late 50s Les Paul sound, then somewhere between a Tele and a Strat with the pickups tapped. And, the big frets make the 11s feel like 10s but give it some real guts. I'd also always wanted a nice cherryburst and later found a very pretty 10-top which is equally fun to play. My friends lust over them both. As far as Grissom's playing, nothing beats hearing him live where he can turn it up. He is the artist in residence at the Saxon Pub in Austin, which is a good sized club, most of the video footage is from there. Rumor is the Saxon is closing though. We saw him twice there... what a sound.
I know this is an older video, but I’m still waiting on my SE Gold top version of this guitar. Too bad the shipping date keeps getting pushed back. This Hass to be a fantastic guitar to own and play way too fancy for me I’m more of a plain Jane type of person, but definitely on the list of dream guitars. Always love seeing the joy on your face regardless of what instrument you choose to play Truly inspirational.
We have been blessed beyond measure here in Austin. Many Tuesday nights dropping in to the Saxon Pub to hear Mr. Grissom put on a master class, for the price of a beer and something for the tip jar. Lord please save the Saxon! If I get to do it again it'll be tears of joy
The DGT was my introduction to PRS. I had played other PRS models and wasn't really wowed until the DGT. Awesome guitar and it's currently my number one.
Fortunate owner of a 2105 DGT Wood Library flame maple top, I believe its Whale Blue. Has a Korina neck with Brazilian RW, Ivoroid button tuners. It’s beautiful and a fantastic playing/sounding guitar.
S2 McCarty Thin Line owner here....thank you, Dave!!! Ironically, my next one will absolutely be the blue SE Piezo Hollowbody. My first blue guitar! ;-)
Even laypeople can hear the sound quality of this guitar. Excellent Tim! I admire you, not least because of your beautiful house. Fantastic insight! Thank you very much :-)
Great guitar tim! congrats! i have a McCarty 594. i was sitting here playing it thru a timmy into a boing reverb pedal into my morgan sw22 while watching the DG interview :) everytime i put the PRS McCarty down for a few days to play some of my other guitars--which are all very nice, mind you--then i go back to the McCarty, I'm reminded all over again why these guitars are so frickin good. anyhoo--got to see DG at the saxon in austin a couple times before i moved. amazing shows. but wanted to hip you to a killer player who played regularly with DG at many of those shows as DG's guitar sparring partner: Carter Arrington. Absolute monster strat player with chops for days--but tasty as hell. Carter plays any style of music at a deep level--yeah, he's one of those guys. Seeing them work off each other was magic. Carter has a recent course on Truefire, as well. He's a wonderful guy and a phenomenal musician who deserves wider recognition. Ask DG about Carter and maybe you could have him on for an interview? I bet your subs would love him. Cheers!
Look up happiness and joy in the dictionary and there is a picture of Tim Pierce with one of his wonderful big grins on his face! Love your videos and your topics! So very interesting and entertaining. Don't ever stop. Thank you!
7:18 two pickups with a similar output? I thought I was the only one who wanted something like that from a more modern guitar 😜 that red guitar is a beauty
SWEET guitar, love that jazzy style & love that singing Santana/ Al DiMeola tone & style, Great video Tim!!! Stay safe my friend, Rock On & God Bless!!!
Thanks for another great video Tim, love the looks of your new guitar. I saw David in Austin Texas playing with Joe Ely at one of the ballrooms at UT 35 years ago or so, I remember he was playing a blue Stratocaster, sounding great
Great video Tim. I noticed at the 18:00 minute mark the audio and video get out of sinc by maybe a second, with David talking about touring in Europe, then there's another edit going back to you at 19:00 and everything is in sinc again.
I heard a lot of this story prior, but I could hear it every week and not get tired of it. David got me pushing that 5 way selector down to use the bridge pickup. It had been along for the ride for 40 years! That particular PRS has gotten plenty of knock offs on the market. The basic layout is pretty close to perfection.
This is the first time I’ve ever really stopped and listened to David play. Sweet baby Jesus have I been missing out! What a monster player!
He truly is one of my top five.
Best Tone I've ever heard!!! Damn!! Mean and sweet all in one !! Peace brothers!!
I bought my one and only PRS because of David Grissom. (a custom 22 with dragon 1st gen pickups) and I still play it live all of the time. 1997 gold top with a stop tail. Thanks Tim for all that you do. I’m a big fan!
Hi Tim! It was my pleasure dealing with you. I hope you experience some great music while playing the best PRS guitar being made.
Thanks John... you find great guitars!!
What a beautiful house. I always smile when I see accomplished musicians have a decent life living off their trade. Nothing less then deserved, TIM!!!
Was thinking the same thing!
There is always something that no one can feel in the video but is the first thing that you feel when you open a new PRS guitar and is that sweet smell of lacquer or whatever it is, but is amazing that smells like magic, at that moment is when you say OH BOY!
I got to meet David and hear him talk about his guitar at a clinic in my hometown. One of the coolest experiences I've had with a musician
Message to Paul Reed Smith: TIM PIERCE CORE SIGNATURE MODEL!
I’ll be waiting for the UPS guy for that guitar!!!
Yeah Tim is a strong advocate for these guitars.
The single cut he just got would be a great candidate! I would play that guitar!
Tim Pierce doesn't need a signature
@@satishdass7460Need and deserve are two different things.
So long as there’s an SE version, I’m in!
Always love to see how happy Tim is while playing, especially with that new guitar rush!
Grissom is a “super hero” of mine. Had the pleasure of seeing his guitar clinic at PRS Experience 2010, and many years later saw him live with Robben Ford. Simply put... the best show I’ve ever been to. Love his signature model PRS!
When Tim ‘put the guitar through it’s paces’ at the start I’ve never seen someone so happy to play and you sounded amazing. Love it.
Totally agree! Emotion in motion!
I'm even more blown away to discover THAT was your house, Tim!
Your foyer is bigger than my entire dwelling.
For some strange irrational reason I had the impression that you lived in a small cottage sized house in suburban LA.
Wow!
And beautiful guitar. 😊
Thank You Tim.
So good for you to interview David.
Awesome Story from a great, great Guitarist/Musician.
Got a wood library DGT a month ago and love it! Have many other core PRS guitars but think the DGT pickups are my favorites. Thanks David and Paul for creating such a great guitar.
I got mine only a couple of months ago. Definitely my new number one.
David Grissom with Joe Ely ... David as such a unique style and tone.
Yeah. Live @ Liberty Lunch is toe tapper for sure and still gets some play time.
I had planned a trip to Austin to see David play at the Saxon Pub until the pandemic. One of my all-time favorite guitarist!! Thanks, Tim!
see my comment--you likely wouldve seen carter too. sorry you missed it. killer sets.
I've gotten to Austin a few times for that gig and it's is totally worth it. Magnificent sound and playing and always great band. As noted, Carter is badass as well. Got to hear trio with Glenn Fukunaga in room with PA only for vocals and it was as great an amp in room sound as I've ever heard.

just a great guy. watching his playing develop over the years has been incredible. to see him throwing down with grissom without breaking a sweat was killer.
Love my blue PRS! Played a 594 today and I loved it too! That DGT is so nice Tim!

Probably one of the most inspirational comments Ive ever seen. God bless u man.// Edit: I loved your Dads vid. Thats my kinda music.
My #1 is a 2013 DGT Artist Package with a rosewood neck. Best guitar ive ever played. Just feels like you can do anything you can think of.
Saw David many, many times with Storyville in late 90s. He’d do a solo before “What Passes For Love” that blew me away every time I heard it. Tim shows a recent video of him doing a small piece of it at the Saxon Pub in Austin around the 9 minute mark.

Gary Smith Storyville was so great.
That tone! Hair on my neck stands on end. I was going to link video 1 when I saw your post. Great taste!
The DGT is probably my favorite PRS out of my collection! Great interview 👏👏👏
A PRS DGT and a Fender Eric Johnson Strat are the only two “signature” guitars that I REALLY would like to have
I think this is such a positive and happy way of the past finally paying off. So awesome to see, as well as just a great story to hear! Wonderful, Tim!
Thanks!
@@timpierceguitar Definitely!
The guitar is stunning , that’s the color I want, and I dig your abode also, very nice ,and Great interview with David 👍

Hi Tim, learnt allot from your jam and interview with David here. Will check out your Master class course. Thanks bro. Dantoo
Thanks Tim! David is a great guy and a hell of a player.
David Grissom is such a great player, as are you Tim. Thanks for sharing
Slightly Thicker body, jumbo frets, volume control sensitivity and full control of these amazing pickups makes my 2015 DGT a go to guitar. Mine came with a rosewood neck that vibrates endlessly in the hand. A winner.
Thanks for this! David Grissom's sound and approach to the guitar provide an endless source of inspiration to compulsive noodlers like me.
That paint!!! Wow... Work of art!
Great interview Tim! Love my McCarty 594. Good to know where some of the input came from.
DG has such a unique/inspiring sound and feel. Lucky to have seen him at PRS Experience a few times.

"Duane at the Fillmore" seems to be that tone standard for PAF type humbuckers. With good reason!
Tim and David...two great players! Cool interview.
Yep! Well said.

I saw David play with the Allman Brother, Mellencamp, and Storyville. His aunt was my neighbor as well.
What a great interview!!!
I love your new guitar!! That color is Gorgeous!!
It’s a great guitar but at the end of the day I believe it’s Tim’s heart ❤️ and soul that makes it sound the way it does.
We have been blessed beyond measure here in Austin. Many Tuesday nights dropping in to the Saxon Pub to hear Mr. Grissom put on a master class, for the price of a beer and something for the tip jar. Lord please save the Saxon! If I get to do it again it'll be tears of joy
That guitar top is unreal! Love it! Incredible playing as usual.
Tim with his "Joy Ride" Face...such a pleasure to see and hear.
The DGT was my introduction to PRS. I had played other PRS models and wasn't really wowed until the DGT. Awesome guitar and it's currently my number one.

Congrats, that's a fantastic river blue DGT, please do more demos playing it if you can.
It looks so amazing congrats Tim!
When Tim Pierce @15:15 said „hahaha“ i felt that. Really made my day😂 love you!
Nice work. I have a 2008 and I LOVE it!✌️

Even laypeople can hear the sound quality of this guitar. Excellent Tim! I admire you, not least because of your beautiful house. Fantastic insight! Thank you very much :-)
John Price is an excellent guitar player, haven't seen him in more than 20 years. I was pleasantly surprised to hear the reference. Thanks.
Tim, speaking of signature tone you gotta do an episode on Trey Anastasio and the languedoc Guitars. Love your stuff!
Awesome story!! Thanks Tim I am a huge fan. Keep on rocking!!
I got an 09 DGT. Best guitar I own.
What a new gorgeous guitar, and great interview with DG!

I don't live far from Austin and get a chance to see David play at the Saxon, will be glad when live music comes back.
Yeah!! The Allman Brothers!! My true inspiration for music!!! Nice video Tim
Great interview with a great guy.
I have a PRS 408 with blue quilted maple top with tremolo bar and ebony fingerboard that's fantastic.
Look up happiness and joy in the dictionary and there is a picture of Tim Pierce with one of his wonderful big grins on his face! Love your videos and your topics! So very interesting and entertaining. Don't ever stop. Thank you!
What a Fantastic Great Live Sound David and Tim ~#~
Never PRS Sound So Goood ~#~
Love Greeetzzz Henk. ~#~
You guys are great! Love both of you. Thx for sharing.
7:18 two pickups with a similar output? I thought I was the only one who wanted something like that from a more modern guitar 😜 that red guitar is a beauty
That was a great vid, Tim! I owned an early 594 but now I'm thinking I'll give the DGT a try...
SWEET guitar, love that jazzy style & love that singing Santana/ Al DiMeola tone & style, Great video Tim!!! Stay safe my friend, Rock On & God Bless!!!
DGT's are great guitars! I remember seeing that one in The Gear Page for sale listings.
10:48 DG plays "Steppin Out". Awesome!
Thanks for another great video Tim, love the looks of your new guitar. I saw David in Austin Texas playing with Joe Ely at one of the ballrooms at UT 35 years ago or so, I remember he was playing a blue Stratocaster, sounding great
I love seeing that even a man such as yourself gets excited about amazing gear. Your smile says it all!
Tim Pierce is just about the highest on my list of guitarists I’d want to meet; how many people seem that happy? 🙂
Great video Tim. I noticed at the 18:00 minute mark the audio and video get out of sinc by maybe a second, with David talking about touring in Europe, then there's another edit going back to you at 19:00 and everything is in sinc again.
I have one of the first 2008 PRS DGT guitars. Love it.
Great interview. Awesome, and informative. Keep doing what you do, Tim!
I had a phase when I wanted a blue guitar, but when I went looking for it, I ended up with a green McCarty (ca. 2003). Love it.
WOW Congrats Tim she’s Beautiful!
I love listening to Tim play
03:03 - That was an awesome jam! A lot of stuff in there! A lesson that would be amazing.
That blue DGT is beautiful! 😳
what a gorgeous guitar!!
