@@robertcoleman4782 ...and it is an 8 String Multi-Scale Fan Fret guitar! Tommy & this guitar was what inspired me to start doing my research into these. I had been using Baritone Guitars in my "Ambient Guitar" journey....and then I found a pretty reasonably priced 8 string that is kind of an import version of his Custom U.S. made instrument. I now own TWO! ..and have found so many ways to use them! Headless makes them more compact and removes a lot of weight. Both of mine are 6 pounds or less....and I would have NEVER thought that I would own anything like them before giving one a try. Thank You again!

Yes, it is a Wonderful Flute....but a little more delicate than "normal" maybe. Thank You. (It is also a pretty wide finger spacing for some people.)

My pleasure Brent! Flute x and z have different keys. Perhaps a bit off topic, but a question that has kept me busy for some time: Does each key with it 's pentatonic scale has it 's own signature? Is, for example, a D flute not only a lower sounding flute than an E flute, but also has it a different character in sound? In other words; does each flute key, besides from sounding higher/lower, has a different signature able to produce a different feeling when played? Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

​@@Eric-lh6wp Interesting question Eric....but it has a lot more involved in the simple asking of it. I am thinking of "Singers" when I first read your question. Singers have a unique (in most cases) "sound".... quite often you can tell the distinct "voice" that a certain Singer has...often in the first couple of words sung. The way that a Flute is "made" (or crafted by the Flute Maker) may make it "smoother" sounding..or "mellower".... they may make their Flutes to be "more responsive" with a crisper, clearer "voice" that is more articulate. Some "woods" used can also change that tone characteristics of a Flute. Different Singers will have different "ranges" ....and sing best in a certain key....but that range doesn't change the actual tonal characteristics of their "voice". The Singer may sing the same exact notes...but will have a certain tone to their "voice"......a Flute made in the key of "D4" (mid range...some people call them a Bass Flute...) can have very different "voices...due to the way the TSH is created. The angle and depth of the splitting edge...smoothness of the air flow and the bore.....the shape...and size of the bore. A "D4" Flute can be made with a 7/8" bore, up to an 1 1/4" bore (possibly even more extremes than this, but I know these work.) and the smaller sized bore with typically feature higher harmonics in its "voice" than one with the largest size bore...which will feature a "bigger" & "rounder" sound. They willl play the exact same notes...but the largest bore size will be perceived as "mellower" and have (generally) a "bassier" sound with less of the higher harmonics present. In other words there is much more to making up the voice of a flute than just the key. Everything...affects... EVERYTHING! when designing a NAS Flute. Then add in how the Flute Player makes each flute sound through their playing style and characteristics! The subtle differences are endless.........another "experiment" that YOU can do... Get 5 "D4" flutes made by different Flute Makers covering as large of a bore diameter range as you can find...and then play them .... then play them them using more air than you typically use....then with the lightest breath that they will play with. The tonal possibilities are endless.

@BrentAdams thankyou so much Brent for your extended answer. I was asking myself this question because I 'm thinking of buying a second flute in a lower key than my E flute. To have a different experience I 'm looking for another flute maker, even though I 'm very satisfied with the E flute I have. The fact that, as you mentioned, so many factors influence the sound of the flute doesn't make it easier to buy a next flute from the internet. 😁 Perhaps that's why some people say buying a NAF can be a hit or miss?

@@Eric-lh6wp I know this will NOT help much...but I always ask for a video recordng of the flute being played in it's basic scale with NO EFFECTS used. I also try to get them to try to demonstrate the flutes range of responsiveness by playing the fundamental note & slowly using more and more air through the flute until it breaks to the next octave....then slowly back off again to see how it comes back down to the fundamental note.

@@naiman4535 I'm about as Modern as RUST! It took me forever to get a cellular phone...the last of my family...and only to be able to take payment for my merchandise while Vending at Flute Festivals. I refuse to use and pay for Streaming Services (for the most part!). My TV is NOT connected to anything other than my BluRay/DVD player! I would much rather play my guitars through "Old School" Tube Amps! They feel & sound better than the newest Digital stuff. Progressive? I would question that as well.....

And I am also a little wary of those cloud and streaming services - is it just a pretext for high tech scamming and taking you for a digital ride? But I, as a Taurus, am usually considered to be a lot more conservative and Old School - but heck, I'm a flaming liberal! As Joni Mitchell so wisely said: There's something lost and something gained, in living life each day....

Guitars bought during the COVID 19 World Shut Down when many people bought guitars....and are now deciding they really don't want/need them. It's a Buyers Market right now!

Why, Thank you so much! I have a Breedlove Guitar that has their specially designed laminate Myrtle back & sides with a solid Myrtle top. I chose it after a LOT of searching for my "right" A/E Guitar.
