Yeah. I would have fired him the first day. Way too many notes. No groove. He played like he was the only guy on the stage. Just awful. There is no way he played on those records.
Fran is a great bass player but it was Tom Schultz that wrote and recorded the bass on the album to this song and 98% of the first 3 albums. Fran only recorded a very small amount of bass
Ugggg,,, he's rushing so bad. There is no groove what so ever. Way too many notes. These guys are so inexperienced at live performance and it shows. There just up there playing parts. Boston wasn't a band, it was a Tom Schultz project. Great record but, I highly doubt if Fran played a note on the record.
Yes, Barry Goudreau was a key ingredient in the original lineup. Too bad Scholz felt they could no longer work together. As far as Sib, he was a fine drummer but I think Jim Masdea’s drumming was more powerful and may have been a better fit. Rock And Roll Band’s drum parts from the debut are standouts imo.
Goudreau’s VOCALS are CRIMMMINALLY underrated!! 👈 😱 My 🎧 are on 11 and I cannot believe my EARS!! What a TALENT! He’s carrying half the weight up there!! 🤘🤘
This is actually the first time I'd heard Delp live, & he's not hitting the notes the way he does on the albums. But the other guy sounds exactly the same, & I'm listening on a phone.
These guys were and are ROCK GODS! Boston was a great band ( live or studio) hard to believe they had so many hits with just a handful of albums.I ❤ BOSTON 4 EVER!
I'm so in love with Brad Delp's voice. Whenever I hear Boston I wish I was born at least 10 years earlier lol. I was born in 1978 and first heard about this awesome band in the late 90s/early 2000s.
Have come to realize that Barry Goudreau was a much more critical component of this band than I ever knew about ....through both his guitar and his voice.
Barry Goodrow was definitely an asset. Great guitar player and voice one of a kind just like Brad Delp. But I did recall something years ago, Tom got his rocking sound from Barry Goodrow's, amplifier with a blown resistor. Either or the XPR modulator, One was supposedly used by Barry goudreau on stage, couldn't buy that one I believe it was an XPR a, gentleman would not sell it to me but he had an XPR. Which I bought, either or you can't beat anything with Boston's music and technology at the time, this band is my favorite and what all of them have achieved, will be in history books or at least mine.
Dang, this is the BEST version of Boston, Giants Stadium 1979 live video I've heard!!! It sounds great!!! I wish you had more of Boston from this live concert. We all already know about Brad's voice, best in rock history. But dang, Barry is then the best harmonizing vocal ever! And this video clearly you can hear that. Thank you!!!
Love the base player ..i need what hes taking...wow them vocals get a little ruff but thats diff between live and studio..watching def lep and you can tell there was some recording help with them live for joe
I like how Tom Scholz often would just slide up a couple of frets to hit a note instead of bending the string a couple of frets back. Unless you have a great ear for pitch and vibrato, players should consider this a bit more. Just a different approach that works.
Why not , do bolth, to me hitting a note or cord sounds better than just , bending a string to achieve a cord, only if you're playing a lead, or just put a capo on it , drop it down, a few frets. Detune. Have somewhat of an ear tuning but it's always one note flat which is good for a recording. But what the hell do I know about a guitar.
Barry Goodreau’s lead guitar work on that song just really puts it over the edge. The harmony guitar riffs are awesome but Barry really puts the icing on the cake too bad Tom Scholz just hates him so much. Envy is a terrible thing.
This just proves the high notes on the records were digitally produced. His normal singing here is great, he can't come close to any high notes. The "more than a feeling" song from this concert really proves it.
Brad did it differently here, but I heard him hit the highest note in more than a feeling. I saw them 5 times. Besides, this was an all analog recording on the original album.
Brad delp could hit the high notes live and did , theres plenty of live recordings where he does it, i have several so yes he could hit them and really did on the album recordings too
So, Brad's vocals aren't perfect in this performance BUT I love this so much more than the auto tune that people are using today. Because although it may be a little pitchy in the higher end, he is giving it everything he's got and he's probably been singing for several nights in a row. I just love this and respect this so much more than the way they do it nowadays.
F- TOM SCHOLZ (nicest way) -"Yeh, I'M TOM" "Id be the TALL, rich/famous Genius MIT post-grad, concert pianist ,rock star, GUITAR GOD, sound engineering music producing ,patented INVENTOR and entrepreneur w/ MODEL good looks"
Flat as a pancake. Kids at high school.thought it was Rush. Had the first record. Thank God for record clubs..13 records for one penny .just buy 6 more in 3 years
No human could actually sing the Boston tunes live. Brad was an amazing vocalist, but there is no doubt Tom did a ton of work manipulating his vocals in the studio.
Again.... Scholz strumming chords through a machine and the REAL GUITAR PLAYER who gets no credit and was thrown out of the band, BARRY GOUDREAU is playing the guitar for real and the solos.
This is just guys thrown together to promote a record. This isn;t a band. They just don't know how to play together. There is no groove. No timing. No sense of being a cohesive unit. Completely fake. And, there is no way this lead bass player played a note on the records. He's terrible. The records were great. But it's just studio work that didn't;t translate to live.
@@davidstewart4310 And,,,, it sounds like it. I would have fired that clown bass player on the first day of rehearsal.. Thanks for the info. You just confirmed what I thought.

The bass player was just wild.
Yeah
Fran Sheehan
His style is very funky. I like this mix where you can really hear him.
Yeah. I would have fired him the first day. Way too many notes. No groove. He played like he was the only guy on the stage. Just awful. There is no way he played on those records.

Such a great band. Insane they aren’t in the RR hall of fame
Fran Sheehan at 3:51 is my new favorite bassist!
Haha

@@midlifemotox I'm sure everyone in the audience is like, "Damn we'd be having a great time if that bassist just wasn't rushing."
There will never be another band like this!!! I'm still in love with them after all these years!! ❤
Barry's background vocals as well as Sib's drumming really brought the sound to life. Nothing better than the ORIGINAL LINE UP
Barry had a great voice.
Cool effect on Barry’s vocals too
RIP Sib Hashian

Barry’s great as a singer and player in Boston and his solo album from 1980 is pretty awesome as well.
The great Brad Delp. RIP.
One of the best bands of all times

This is actually the first time I'd heard Delp live, & he's not hitting the notes the way he does on the albums. But the other guy sounds exactly the same, & I'm listening on a phone.

I remember listening to them on 8 track with my Koss headphones when they first came out. I was young but I knew what great timeless music was ❤
WOW! Boston playing at NY Giants stadium. And getting positive results. Whoda, Thunk?
the bass player is off his tits ...love him !!!
What a great band Boston! Beautiful vocals and amazing musicians!
This song is a masterpiece love it. Boston is a masterpiece 💙💙💙💙
The rest of the band trying to keep up with Fran, what a talent on bass! DaYuM
Great singer
Golden! OMG, so pure. No auto-tune, just jamming. The real deal of rock and roll! Smoking hot guitar players. Thanks for posting!
For such an epic production.....they killed it.
Magnífic band is místic Boston forever \m/
I love the bass player too. He's always bouncing with the beat🎸🎶👍
Late 70s gotta love it music was raw genuine and felt great awesome tune
They say a little before there time ❤️💯amazing
God they were a great band!

Tom said the Boston guitar was chained soaks and 100w amplifiers…no idea what a soak is; he’s the engineer!
@jaybee9269 he means chained 100w amps together with a power soak which reduces volume without reducing gain.
2:50 He was so freakin' adorable. And Barry was a damn good singer!

Nagyon szeretem a Bostont! Remek zenét játszanak!
1:36 That is the most rock-n-roll bass player ever.
Funniest clip of the whole thing. lol. Just boppin' his way across the stage out of frame.
BarrrrBarrosssss rockkkkkkkkkkk 🎵🎶😃🥰
Thanks for this. Looks like Fran Sheehan snorted more than his fair share.
He did seem to be moving around a lot.....
😅😅
Yess!!!
They are good live i seen them in 85
I like how Tom Scholz often would just slide up a couple of frets to hit a note instead of bending the string a couple of frets back. Unless you have a great ear for pitch and vibrato, players should consider this a bit more. Just a different approach that works.
Or you can get ear training classes so you have better tuning
Why not , do bolth, to me hitting a note or cord sounds better than just , bending a string to achieve a cord, only if you're playing a lead, or just put a capo on it , drop it down, a few frets. I have enough problems trying to tune my , My g-string, no that's not funny, according to my PRS custom ..
Scholz es una guitarrista superior. No hay mas que decir.
The way that Fran is rocking his ass off on stage, looks like he belongs in
AC⚡DC not Boston.
Good lord 🔥
Nice
Sheeeesh!
What kind of drugs was the bass player on?
Ain't it? He always kinda freaks me out a bit lol. The only other thing I can think of is maybe he needs to have a rhythm to not lose the beat.
@@animemanganet >> It was the 1970s, so probably cocaine. Maybe he’s just happy like Tom?
Fran Sheehan looks like he's playing in a different dimension than the rest of the band. haha.
Little bit of struggle but damn good though!

The whole tune is a bass solo. Fire that guy.

How about his backup vocals too? Sounds like he could have been a singer in a band himself
Barry always been great…but he needs to be in a band like this to be great. Yeah, Tom’s a control freak and a perfectionist, for sure. Bless him!
WTF is the bass player with the red outfit on? Must have been that California dreamin' stuff with all those facial expressions @3:51 ....😂😂😂
Buddy’s in another Dimension. Galaxy 2095. Performing in front of Alieans 😂😂😂.
They were soo anti-disco, but were wearing disco garb. Fine. Giving them a pass. They were great none the less.
