Yes, they have completely different personalities: Arya never would have stayed in Kingslanding, because she didn't want to be a lady. Sansa didn't care about becoming a swordsmen or how to handle a sword.

You took my words out of my mouth. Arya didn't have enough patience nor was she as good at lying, even though Sansa's lying at the beginning was quite bad.
Sansa's body wouldn't survive what Arya went through, she wouldn't be able to hide her gender. They are two beings, no two beings would ever survive the same thing, there is a breaking point somewhere.

Great character arc indeed. 2nd or 3rd best for me. After Cersei and maybe Daenerys.
Sansa had perfect development from an annoying naive and "weak" wannabe disney princess to a truly solid badass queen. She kind of missed the first few seasons of fabulousness while Cersei and Danny were always great. From the very start to the very end. Yes, I am one of the very very few who loved those two character's endings.
Cersei is by far my favourite, charming, spectacular, solid, believable and consistent all the way through her epic journey through fire. Danny had some underwhelming chapters but her beautifully tragic ending was enough for redemption.
Sansa's becoming the Queen of the north was very satisfactory although I would really have preferred it if it had happened in an other way. That horrible last episode with the super-cringe coronation of Bran left it seem like Bran just gave a crown to his sister only to stop her crying at him about it. She deserved better than that. We all deserved better than that merciless disgrace of the last episode. Cersei's and Danny's deaths almost worked as salvation. They escaped the ship before the absolute downfall.

The reality is that Sansa has always had more nerve and steel in her than people cared to ever pay attention to, but because she was quiet and demure and lady-like surrounded by wild flashy characters, other characters got more attention than she did, but Sansa has always been strong, far stronger than many people ever thought she could be. Her ability to endure such trauma and always find ways to adapt but always maintain her true self is honestly a level of mental and emotional strength that few characters have. Tyrion was one of the few people to ever saw Sansa for what she could be capable of when he said "Lady Stark, you may survive us yet" and survive she did.

This analysis misses the significance of her character arc. Of ALL the characters in the series, Sansa was the ONLY one who changed fundamentally. She really WAS a silly, romantic, helpless little girl, and she had to learn and grow into the powerhouse she became. Jon pretty much remained Jon throughout the story, Arya remained Arya, and even Dani had a streak of malice from the get-go that only became more apparent toward the end. If Sansa had any "steel" about her, it was that her experiences didn't break or embitter her, but her 180-degree transformation was the result of her efforts, NOT some intrinsic strength. Don't deprive her of that.

Then never fell for his words again, while her little sister executes the man! Not to mention the development between sisters. Both surviving things that more than likely would have broken the other, followed by acknowledging how strong each are. John could’ve died in that battle (should of if the plot wasn’t doing shitty things). She wasn’t cunning either. She didn’t escape winter fell on her own. She didn’t do shit on her own. Every single time she escapes she had someone else help her. She was stupid, she trusted little finger to begin with. He was the one who betrayed her father. I mean like come on. She isn’t smart. She is dumb. She is a clear example of a badly written character that could’ve been amazing if the writers weren’t with their heads up their asses. She was insufferable in season 1 but that was a given because all her life that was all she knew and surrounded with, then reality comes in, breaking the door and grabbing her by the hair. I think that’s why she couldn’t forgive Ramsay most of all
When he raped her, he destroyed that bit of innocence she had tried so hard, with so much difficulty, to protect. Her chastity had been threatened so many times in the worst way possible, and I feel like although, she no longer had those stupid dreams about marrying a handsome prince who would make her a princess, she still hoped to someday have a happy marriage, become a happy mother, and find a man who would love, respect and make her feel safe, just like her mother had done with her father. But Ramsay broke that dream. I think that what he did to her made her unable to ever hope for love or a happy marriage, because this was the last straw that probably made her unable to ever trust men again or to even stand one trying to touch her.
Because of Ramsay, she could no longer believe she would ever be loved or treated well and sincerely by a man/husband and he probably made her someone who would no longer be able to feel romantic love again.
Because of him, she lost her ability and chances to ever enjoy that ordinary happiness that most women want, a happy marriage and motherhood 😢

I agree Sansa had some of the best character growth in the series, but I also think we gotta be careful about romanticizing her abuse as the catalyst for her growth..yes she showed amazing strength/resilience, but she was so young at the start of the series, there's a lot of character growth she would have experienced as she matured regardless of her later trauma

@@NovaLena22 I’ve been through an abusive relationship, and I didn’t find it to be romanticizing. It’s vindicating. I felt the same way about my abusive relationship.
It’s not romanticizing because the abuse defines you and becomes forever who you are. At the same time, you become much, much stronger because of it.
I wouldn’t call it better - it’s colder, and darker. But it’s certainly stronger.
It’s kind of like saying a story about a man who has been to earth and came back stronger would be romanticizing war. It may appear that way to someone who has never been to war, so I guess in that way it is sort of true, but someone who has understands that it is genuinely the only silver lining in something so toxic and hellish, that everything else is negative.
I liked that about the storyline. I get sick of hearing about what a victim I am from people who hear what happened to me - because it’s not true. I wasn’t a victim, just like Sansa wasn’t. We were victimized, sure - but there’s a difference between being victimized and being a victim. Both of us chose not to be broken by it, but use it as an occasion to acquaint ourselves with evil and accept that it exists. Something many other people can’t face.
That being said, not all abused people feel that way, I’m sure - but I do.

Misfortunes and abuse don't make you stronger or better. You are who you are because of the way you choose to live... in good times and bad.

@@NovaLena22 oh, sorry! I might have gotten that from a previous comment.
What you’re saying is true, but also kind of not, in a way…but let me just explain that from my personal perspective. (It’s fine if you disagree by the way, I respect that you have your own logic behind your beliefs!)
Anyways, I’ve always been this type of “character”, but the things that happened to me in life were what molded it. Taking another example, let’s say that you are a hardworking person who had a near death experience and then decided to devote your life to your family?
You’re still a hardworking person, but your paradigm shifted. Now you hold family as most dear, whereas before you may have held your career as most dear.
In the same way that changes a person, permanently, so does abuse. It forever shifts the way you view the world, and especially the way you prioritize values and avoid risks.
You really are not the same person afterwards. You are, in that you’re still who you were born with. You’re not in the same way that you wouldn’t have been the same person if you were raised in a different country with a different language.
To use another example - let’s take a soldier who has PTSD. They’re not the same person they were before they had it. I can pretty much guarantee you that any soldier with PTSD will tell you that.
These things fundamentally change the very core of your being. You can never “recover” from them - you can only incorporate them into the new version of yourself that you create.
In fact, the abuse even changes your brain chemistry and can lead to a number of health problems like cancer.
So I disagree with what you’re saying, but I appreciate the sentiment behind it and I think it’s a really kind stance that you have. I know you’ve thought about it deeply and I don’t discount that.
This has been my experience, but maybe not all people have felt the same way. Maybe Sansa didn’t 😉

Such terrible writing of a great strong character destroyed any interest many of us had to watch this great series. Tho I have seen so many many scenes on youtube to know how it all goes and seeing the incredible acting and character development. Sansa goes thru a horrible crucible but emerges as a uber strong, smart queen of the north who really understands how to get things done.

Sansa had the best character development. From innocent, naïve girl to confident, cunning Queen. The best part about season 8 (And there wasn't much sadly) was that Sansa became Queen of the North.

When she realized no one could protect her, everyone who promised failed, that's when she became a badass. She protects herself now, she gives peace to those who cannot protect themselves. The Queen of the North was a hostage, a prisoner, she was beaten, raped... She will never be those things again and neither will her people. Go Sansa!!!!

It’s hard to believe the girl that sansa was in season 1 and the confident badass woman she is now ❤️ I don’t watch game of thrones but Ives seen some scenes of when she was younger and she seemed so timid and naive but she learned how to defend herself and be the woman that she is now bc of those things she’s faced.

She so perfectly embodies the power of a woman who bears witness, speaks out unapologetically about unspeakable violence against the most vulnerable, and demands justice. She’s a rightful inspiration to all the good men in the show and delivers a terrifying end to worst men in the show that they never see coming. I love her arc.

So many people hate her and think she is annoying. She was an indulged child, and naive, due to really no fault of her own. She had a very rude awakening, survived, and took lessons from her ordeals. She used what she learned to claw her way back up. To me, that makes her a much more interesting character.
