Finally! Uncle mark you are an amazing teacher and very talented in my opinion. I built my shovel a year and half ago just cause I wanted one. Yours looks so much like mine. I know squat about guitars and have never played one in my life. Through your lessons and a couple other guys I can play a dozen songs now. So happy that now you may have some more slide, or “fret less” songs coming. I owe you at least $20 lol and you will see it within a day. A really good lesson on how to play on a shovel guitar!!! I got my JJ delivered here to Sweden yesterday so this tutorial helps a lot.The music theory on the fretboard was like turning on a lamp in the dark.Much appreciated! I will follow your site and contribute so we "shovelsliders" :-) can improve. Can one have a request for a lesson? In the early bluesdays of Fleetwood Mac they had a song that had some awesome slideguitar by Jeremy Spencer ,"Shake your moneymaker"
That song would be cool to play on a shovelguitar i think!

I don't own a "Pignose" amp.... sorry. I use a Roland "mini" Cube now for all lessons.
Looking foreward to these new lessons..... I want one, but I'm left handed, so I am gonna have to see if he will make it.

Im planning to build one this is so cool fretless more feelings you can express depends on your mood .. another question Uncle Mark what is the distance from nut to bridge? Is it accurate if i copied the distance fret of my strat and apply to this shovel? If not Can i ask what is your distance fret 🤗🤗🤗
That’s a question for on of the online groups on Facebook. I don’t build. I just wouldn’t know how to measure to be accurate. It’s a fine measurement.

Really liked this lesson Mark..I have a guitar i use for slide because the frets are either flat or sharp..so playing it with your fingers it sounds out of tune all the time...But with a slide i can adjust that. If i go a little sharp i usually slide back a bit....or flat i'll whack on some vibrato and sneak into it that way sometimes and it sounds kinda deliberate..if i get it right..! But it does have that slightly out of tune authentic bluesy sound..
Slide guitar is also a good way to start training your ear..it's a good way to start learning guitar because you can start playing stuff much sooner..learn chord progressions and intervals..and you don't get bored and give up..
Personally i set my strings flat so my slide contacts all the strings when i want it to..if i set them following a radius i just end up with a ton of buzzing...so i use a short stubby little slide..
The strings are flat...I just want folks to visualize a radius. It can make getting individual notes easier sometimes...cheers and thanks
I use a small slide too..... since it only has 3 strings, I can get away with a much smaller slide that only covers the space. This allows me much more freedom to get that middle string alone

Thanks for the video, Can you play minor chords as well?
minor chords are "implied". Just pretend the majors are minors and the open chords will work just fine.
I am new to this..what key are the three strings in?
All my lessons and videos are in open G tuning. GDg. I use the same electric nickel wound strings on my shovel and my Cigar boxes.
I know scale length doesn't matter too much with a fretless guitar, but do you know the length from nut to bridge on your guitar? Great video btw!

Yep did you know sound requires matter. In space-time sound can't exist.
sound requires a medium to travel through as a wave....atmosphere, water etc.....sound can't exist in a vacuum. Very True...Thanks
