- I haven't listened to Norma Jean since 2002. I was 14 and only liked whatever was on the radio, and I never got around to checking them out again. Until now! I absolutely love the emotional delivery of the singing, and the harsher vocals hit me right in the chest. Many thanks to our patrons for such an amazing suggestion!

When are you doing sun eater???
Norma Jean is one of the most underrated metal bands out there, they’ve only got better and better with every album. Love to see them get the recognition they deserve
There’s only a few things in the world that can bring me as much joy as someone appreciating Norma Jean for the first time. I love it
"sword in mouth, fire eyes" will always be my favourite from norma jean
Same here. Love your avatar as well 🥹🤘
I see that AngelMaker profile pic 😏
@@zombiebrokill6605 tyty fellas
God such a great tune.
That's the natural choice
Norma Jean = underrated
They are such an underrated band . They should be bigger than they are
As a young kid dying for metal in my hardcore Christian life I was SO Thankful for the “Christian” hardcore/metal/screamo scene that was absolutely brilliant in the late 90’s early 2000’s.
You should check out the song Anna off this album. SO GOOD!! The last scream in the song is SO SICK!!
Mark would lose it at the ending all hail belting and I want to see it so bad
it also features Garrett Russell of Silent Planet (my fave) :)
I second this.
Best song on the album
Definitely needs to react to that one
heard the distortion on that first riff and was instantly hooked
That whole album is PURE GOLD. Their new music is incredible.
CB is one of the best metalcore/hardcore vocalists of our time. The dude is a national metal treasure
Please do more Norma Jean! Cory pushes his screams THE MOST in "I. The Planet" Great video!
I'll check it out!
Amazing song
All Hail!
Glad you enjoyed the song so much! No vocalist had made me want to sing/scream as much as Cory has. Dudes a creative beast.
This whole album was excellent. This song happens to be my favorite from it.
These guys have been killing it for years. My personal favorite album is Wrongdoers. So raw and emotional. Great "breaking up" album
The story behind this album (All Hail) is really cool! The guitarist (Grayson Stewart) joined the band in 2018 and was a huge fan of the band. He was fanboying out hard and couldn’t believe that he was now the guitarist of one of his favourite bands. Then the mad lad wrote the best material the band has come up with in their lifespan and has really moved the band forward into a brilliant new chapter.
Grayson is a beast and an even better dude
Grayson is seriously the dude. I met him early on and he truly belongs.
We lived next door to the Stewarts for 20 years and our kids grew up with Grayson. I can't tell you how many hours we spent hearing Grayson shredding his guitar and pounding on the drums. The kid had so much dedication it was crazy. Plus he is just super great person all around.
That is the fucking coolest.
Norma Jean never disappoints! I love all the albums. Probably, my favorite band ever.
You should definitely react to some Greyhaven at some point! He gets really playful with his vocals at times and is a fantastic vocalist!
echo and dust pt. 1 has a lot of range and I want to see him cover it
"Ten Dogs - Red Heaven" by Greyhaven is GOAT!
Yes Greyhaven is such a good choice
Greyhaven is amazing….. they AND Norma Jean JUST put out new albums. Both are next level
Norma Jean, The Chariot, Every Time I Die, The Bled. Easy all time top 4. First time I heard Memphis Will Be Laid To Waste back in 2002/03 basically changed my musical landscape. what a record that was
The best live show I’ve been to was The Chariot.
Same here. Waltzing round the room.
My brother in law got me into them right when that album came out and opened me up to more than just NuMetal. That album changed my whole outlook on music and made them my favorite band even with the lineup changes.
You should definitely check out the last three albums (Wrongdoers, Polar Similar and All Hail) if you dug this. Norma Jean are in such a good career groove these days.
Is normal Jean's still a band? 😉 Havent listened to them in years
@@BirdOfHermes83 yes, they are, and a very good one. Check out their last album All Hail - it is amazing.
@@BirdOfHermes83 NEW ALBUM COMING IN AUGUST!!!!!! Check their new song Call for the blood. It's sooooooooo good!!!
@@BirdOfHermes83 they are more than a band. they are a living breathing entity that Cory continues to nurse everyday of his life
1,000,000 Watts and Everyone talking Over Everyone Else. Great songs
If Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child is the last thing you heard from them just know that the entire band is different now including Cory (vocals), who joined on the next album.
The song was from All Hail. I'm a long time Norma Jean fan and I must admit that it might be my favorite album of theirs.
Norma Jean was the first band I fell in love with and they pretty much got me into metal music. So stoked to see how far they're still going and do glad you enjoyed them!!
please please PLEASE do more Norma Jean songs. Definitely my favoeite band and they don't have a bad album in my opinion
Norma Jean has had an incredible run of albums from Redeemer through All Hail. Not many bands have such a solid discography.
Dude Norma Jean is awesome I love that band
The album this was on was my favorite record of all of 2019 and I fell in love with the band from there 🙌 Definitely check out Full Circle and Mind Over Mind as well
Norma Jean is severely underrated. In Nuance and in longevity and maturation.
Love Norma Jean. Totally underrated band. Been listening to them since I got into metal in 2008 right before high school.
Came for Norma Jean and that southern crawl. Stayed for the insightful and articulate breakdown!
All Hail the Almighty Norma Jean!
not sure if you still check these comments, but the lead singer has a side project called orphantwin. I think you'd really dig it!
Meridional is a GREAT album to get into the post Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child era. Very much more musical while retaining the fierceness that drew everyone in to their sound in the first place.
Meridional is their creative peak. Nothing they did before or since really reaches the depths of this absolute masterpiece. If you listen to it as an an album in its entirety you just lose track of time and imagine youre in a cyan skied world. .
@@ondrejhabina7163 I think wrongdoers, AH, & deathrattle absolutely mog meridional
@@immortallix Not even close. I like parts of all those but the level of material just doesnt reach the same depth. Although Polar Similar and Deathrattle come closer, Meridional is just their pak.
Cool! 🖤
Norma Jean is so underrated
I really enjoyed this song, I'll have to check out more!
This has been my fav heavy album in a long long time. I listen to it front to back over and over. Can’t say that about many other bands.
That's really cool!
As a person who was never necessarily in love with Norma Jean : yeah listen for sure to All Hail (the album this is from) cause as you were saying it definitely pulls you in
I'm actually in shock. This song is really really good. I listened to the more chaotic version of Norma Jean as a teenager but good lord they've progressed. I'll have to catch up as well.
The more chaotic first album was a different singer. They started to be less chaotic an album or two after that. Their first singer then started the chariot, which is also awesome, but they have no clean vocals.
@@BirdOfHermes83 By more chaotic I meant O God the Aftermath. The Chariot was pure chaos. I nearly got knocked out in one of their moshpits as a teenager, while Josh Schogin was simultaneously literally hanging upside down from the ceiling headbanging
Norma Jean is an amazing band and their albums are consistently good.
I've definitely been missing out on them!
Good call on the tool vibe. Def a good song. Better than i expected
Always fun to see someone enjoy Norma Jean
Been listening to Norma Jean since 05. So cool to see you react to one of theirs! Really enjoyed seeing how much you enjoyed the song as well! Love your videos Mark! I’ve learned a lot watching them even though I don’t consider myself a vocalist per say. I just play guitar. Thanks for all you do man, much love and God bless!
2 words...
1. Lorna
2. Shore
Two words. Already has
I love Norma Jean so much! I heard them when I was 14 and loved them ever since
Man there is not one member left in the band from the last time he listened to them. They are one of my favorite bands and so humble got to shake all there hands and tell them great show by the merch table after seeing them live.
You should check out orphantwin.
the song or Corey's new band?
Can you do a Trevor Strnad tribute video? Such a killer vocalist and metal ambassador. Always wanted a breakdown of his vocals.
Im so bummed out about him!
He was an amazing person and singer. Hope he's not in pain anymore!
And a Tribute video would be awesome
Oh if you love this, your in for a great catching up since Bless the Martyr.
Polar similar is probably my fav record, but honestly the last 4 or 5 albums have been FANTASTIC
Holy canoe !! :D
Love these guys since 2011, saw them live 2016 in Moscow, they're awesome. I remember drummer used to talk with fans for 20 minutes after the show)
Have always fucking loved Norma Jean from the first song I heard. Glad you reacted to them, no matter what song, it’s a banger. It might be less of a banger than their other bangers but it’s a banger regardless.
Can confirm - was a banger!
truest title of a video i have ever read... Norma jean is criminally underrated in the music scene, one of the few bands to get better with time
Sorry commenting on a 2+-year-old video, but at 00:13 I realized, I subscribe for puns like this. And this is the first one I've seen from this channel, so I cannot imagine this doesn't just get better
I loved watching you react to this song even though I'll never be a singer.
Never say never!
Mark! i firken loved that dad joke at the beginning of the vid! you should do those more often :D
If you like that track, I gotta be honest, that whole album “all hail” is fire. Probably my favorite to date.
Kardasharks academy? 🦈 1:21
Love the video as always Mark. Thanks for being a great goober!
If everyone says they are underrated, then who underrates them? Not underrated, just highly rated
Love your in depth or at least explaining how sounds are made through vocal expression. Appreciate this. I am learning.
I'm glad it was helpful, thanks for watching!
I absolutely love Norma Jeans last 3/4 albums they make me want to learn to sing!
Great review, amazing song and band
I just found your channel and tbh I wish we were friends now. I love everything you brought to that song and how much you just loved it too.
Thanks so much, that's very sweet - I hope you stick around and watch more videos - or you can even join our Dicord community and come hang out sometime! Thanks for watching!
Great reaction vid
Thanks bro!
Will you review 'Dragged through the Inferno' soon?
I'm waiting for this video haha
I haven't listened to Norma Jean since Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child. This is way different
Yes I'm going through most videos I haven't seen or get recommended to me. No this doesn't get boring
The entire All Hail album is so good!! And I would highly recommend to listen to it in it's entirety.
I'll have to check it out!
They’ve always been 🔥
You oughta check out Disconnecktie.....PHENOMENAL song, and I'd love to see your analysis
Mark coming in hard with the Dad jokes already
Cool man. Subbed.
Definitely check out NJs catalog with Corey! Easily one the most stellar discographies in metalcore
jouliiicanouliii jajaja ure great bro, very good video, muy buen analisis del vocal, very good resume about the flow of the lead, hugs from chile
if you like this, i can almost guarantee you would love anything by Greyhaven, but i suggest you get into Echo and Dust Pt.1
echo and dust is what got me into greyhaven and is definitely going to be one of my top ten songs this year along with Anna by norma jean
Since you've checked out this one, you should try listening and reacting to other mathcore bands like Car Bomb, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Ion Dissonance, The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, Vein, etc. Those bands are great too!
But first, we would love to see you do a tribute reaction video to Trevor Strnad's vocals and his band TBDM.
The Chariot too!! But ALL GREAT suggestions!
Horse! The Band
Ion dissonance really deserve the love man
Ever since all hail came out, Norma jean has been my absolute favorite band. Every album has some incredible bangers! I think I mostly love careen and translational off all hail, they feel like they have similar sounds to underoaths disambiguation which had the same drummer I believe.
You gotta check out "10,000 Watts" by them. The main riff is fucking nasty and it's a very great song.
1,000,000 watts!
"A millions watts because I'm feeling alive, but you're broken on the inside, baby"
My favorite song from them, not a huge fan, but this song hits hard.
I need to see you react to Deviloof the vocals are WILD
There is no way he could explain that
@@kavetolson5655 that's exactly why I wanna see that
I wish you'd check out Keith Buckley from Every Time I Die someday. I truly think he's one of the best vocalists in metalcore/hardcore. His cleans are killer, his screams sound like a wounded animal, absolutely my favorite vocalist.
I'll check him out!
@@KardavoxAcademy awesome man! I'd recommend checking out White Void. It'll introduce you to both his screams and cleans.
Norma Jean have come a long way since Bless the Martyr! It was great watching you react with glee I was loving it.
They do have some new singles out, you might want to check 'Spearmint Revolt' the breakdown is epic!
I'll check it out!
Memphis will be laid to waste is a legendary pokemon level of special
I wish Mark would react to the last everytime I die album. I don't care which song because all of them are incredible. I feel like most people vibing to this Norma jean song would agree.
Hopefully all of them😉
Please do something with Josh Scogin. He's a legend. He was the singer of Norma Jean when they became one of my favorite bands, then he created The Chariot. I'd argue his best vocal work was in The Chariot.
Fun fact: Corey did almost every bit of writing from 2002-2016 including the riffs
I had no idea Zach Galifianakis did reactions.
Aria Obscura off the new album is pretty sick vocal-wise! Or shit, their classic “Sword In Mouth…” is also awesome
I do love every Norma Jean álbum... which means that I might be one of the fewest people who love the anti mother =)
I'll have to check it out!
Bro, check out their song “sun dies, blood moon” it’s like a 7 min western? end of the world song
The beginning I totally get Tool vibes. The music was not the typical rhythm arrangement and he had a low breathy voice like Maynard does
Can we have a review of TBDM please? I would really love your take on Trevor's vocals and also... you know... it hurts so much ... HEARTBURN lives on in our hearts!!
You should do Anna
You'd LOVE that one. Best song on the album!
well Mark you sure got the dad jokes on point
Did... Did he just say... "Kard-a-sharts?" Lol
You heard that too? 🤣🤣🤣
Good episode :) Please do NORTHLANE "Talking Heads". Marcus Bridge is one of greatest vocs recently, imho.
Look into NJ - Falling from the sky
Every new album from NJ is better than the last. Not many other bands can say the same. Is there room for preference? Duh. But in terms of talent, cohesiveness, and sound, they get better and better.
That's cool, I'll have to check more out!
Norma jean has zero bad albums, these guys have been transcending hardcore and metal for over a decade.
As with most bands with a 20+ year history, norma jean's sound has changed alot and I know that the vocalist who started off with the group left, I think around the time the band put out the album "Wrongdoers" so if that was a reason you couldn't get into them before, might be worth noting. In my opinion The Redeemer is an example of a perfect album and perfectly encapsulates the more hardcore elements of metalcore in a way that make it unique, to me at least.
Thanks for the info, I'll do some digging!
Cory's actually been with them since O' God, making Bless the Martyr the only album not to feature him. His skill as a vocalist has just increased immensely since he started, which is why he sounds so dynamic now compared to his older stuff.
The old Norma Jean records are still masterpieces, though
