    The more I listen to the song the more I get the genre switch at the end. Especially listening to how the vocals are delivered specifically on the line "I've got a river running right into you." The first half it's almost live he's angry about, being controlling or yearning for something, the jazzy part when that part comes in he's singing it in full confidence. It's like watching a person's mindset about a relationship (or whatever it may be) change completely.

What’s great about it even being out tho is the singer doesn’t have a public profile, nor any more media content like live videos (atleast anymore, besides like 2 videos from his old project), so most people don’t even know what he looks like anymore. • @opart
      @opart Год назад +5

      I think they are trying to do too much in one go. There is nu metal vocals, there is growls and screams, there is your pop part, and dreamy ambient.
      Essentially it's pop music with some ambient and djenty arrangements. Individually these parts sounds good, love the solo, love the heavy drops, love the reverb part, but overall these cancel each other out. The breathing and the pop vocals don't seem genuine though, with all the high production quality, it's all too contrived.
      Also, can we talk about lyrics ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ :
      "Oh, and my love
      Did I mistake you for a sign from God
      Or are you really here to cut me off?
      Or maybe just to turn me on
      Cause these days
      I would be lying if I told you that
      I didn't wish that I could be your man
      Or maybe make a good girl bad"
      Anyway, call me old fashioned, but I like my music way more raw. Pass for me.

    This was my first intro to Sleep Token and it took me two listens to Get It, then I went back and binged Sundowning and This Place Will Become Your Tomb. I do have to say, even though I think Vessel has always been a very talented vocalist, it is VERY evident that he's been working with a vocal coach between albums. His vocals in all of the new singles are NUTS, and I get rly excited when an artist with a lot of skill will STILL put in the work to hone their craft, even if they were talented enough to skate by without the additional practice/work.

    I got a phone call right at 26:21 of the video and once it resumed, I vaguely remember the subject and got hit with “hi my name is Mark and I like sushi.” 😂 absolutely random.
    Love the reaction. Although it’s not your style, much respect for being able to analyze and critique it

      Hey I just wanna let you know that honestly i’m also really iffy when it comes to Sleep Token, this song & Chokehold are absolutely amazing but they definitely took a lot of growing on to really get into & I’m not too big of a fan of their older stuff or their latest singles
      Just thought I’d put that out there cuz even tho I’m still very optimistic for the new album, I can see how they aren’t really ur thing

    Vessel's voice style, in hitting the highs and lows, sorta reminds me of Jeff Buckley. Just became aware of ST on RUclips after the drop 2 weeks ago. I looked into their catalog and took a chance based on hearing a few songs, and ended up purchasing all of their music from iTunes. I set my music system on shuffle, and go on one of the best enriching music rides that I have had in a long time. Now I'm a solid follower and no second thoughts! Worship ❤

    Love this reaction man ,and learn some things on the way ,sometimes I feel that the vocalist sings so relaxed and makes it look so easy that I like it so much, thats the why many of us say it's even sexy,like if the hole band is enjoying the music they are creating ,that you can feel the confidence and the vibe ,I dont know how to explain my mind properly

    I really appreciate your explanation on how to develop from one‘s speaking voice on. I am generally a little more in the upper tones it seems and for a long time I thought my full chest voice is what I need for singing, then one day (after having been told a few times I should not sing and since then have suppressed it really) the song Riptide really was stuck in my head and I hummed and sang along in the bathroom… what a break through. Finally understood why long serious talking exhausts my voice: I would activate a performative lower voice that strained my throat; but most of my speaking and my easiest singing actually takes place in the front of my mouth and it is easiest and feels most comfortable to have resonance in my mouth or head. Working from here on, maybe your exercises help me develop it more!

    The ending and the genre switch kind of felt like a release of tension. Most of the song has a darker sound to it and the ending feels more the singer is finally at peace and feela more Free. I guess this song also resonates differently with people depending on how they emotional feel. I didn't really find the switch weird it felt natural to me but I personally think metal can blend well with almost any genre

      I only heard about ST after the full album release. I was driving home from work and saw the album art and thought it looked interesting. Anyway, I listened to part of Chokehold and thought his voice was interesting. Then The Summoning played and that’s when I realized there was something different about this band. When the last part started I was like “What?!?!” I would say it’s not my favorite on the album but it’s what hooked me and I do like it.

    If you aren’t a fan…it’s ok. I tried but classifying them as a metal band makes me expect certain things musically. They don’t deliver within that genre very well.

    • @carsonlewis7901
      @carsonlewis7901 Год назад +4

      I think you really have to create space for them to just be Sleep Token, no way to classify these guys. I still don’t know what kind of music they play. All I say is if you EVER get the chance to see them live, take it!

    • @wavewithus4081
      @wavewithus4081 Год назад +5

      In my head canon they're a prog metal band.
      I found ST through a progmetal forum too and it helped with my expectations.
      I can be surprised by the band but still 'expect' these guys to mix hiphop with rnb with metal with pop and occasionally put out a acapella/ballad track.
      They do whatever and go a lot of places musically, but after a while you start recognizing their 'sleep token song formula' lol and by that point you're fully invested :p

      This is one of those cases where I think genres are a net negative. You see people arguing that they aren't a metal band, arguing that they aren't a pop band, etc. etc. They dip their toes into a bunch of different genres, which is rad. Unfortunately, that also leads to metal elitists losing their collective minds over them being talked about by metal music outlets.

    I did not like Sleep Token at all when I first heard them in May when their latest album released, I thought it sounded to simple for. I like more technical metal and hard rock.
    So I can def understand if anybody feel unmoved by Sleep Token, I did too, I felt I did not understand what people thought was so great about them, nothing special at all I thought.
    But his voice and their excellent ambient stuff and atmosphere in a lot of their songs really grew on me last week when I listened once more to their Eden album in my car at high cruising speed ;)
    Now I have come to really like this Eden album, especially the title track.
    He has a very special voice and I actually like the RnB and other influences they have in their music.
    A bit of a different breeze to all the melodic death, blackened death metal and stuff I listen to normally.
