After countless suggestions, I'm so stoked to finally be diving into Sleep Token! Enjoyed the hell out of this first one, and looking forward to many more -- leave your suggestions below!
Take Me Back To Eden is not only my personal favorite album of all time, but the title track is one of the most incredible pieces of music I've ever heard.
I’m seeing a lot of Take Me Back to Eden, Ascentionism but may I suggest going backwards? Hypnosis, Atlantic, The Night Does Not Belong to God and (my personal favourite) The Offering ❤
SO EXCITED that you've found sleep token!! I would recommend you listen to the entirety of the Sundowning album in order, then the Take Me Back to Eden album in order. It's almost akin to Epic where different aspects of the music are reused later on with new meanings, especially in the final song of the second album I mentioned :) (also if you can convince Mortius or Casper to react as well, I would be STOKED. I feel like they'd both appreciate the depth of the lyrics to a lot of the songs. No worries if not though, I understand you're all separate people ❤)
The Summoning, Take Me Back To Eden, Ascensionism, Rain, Sugar, Atlantic, Euclid….really all of them 😂 You should start from the very beginning though.
This... 😁☝️ Euclid is the conclusion of a trilogy that begins with the album Sundowning. Also, the drummer, known as II has a Drumeo interview that's fascinating.
I only discovered Sleep Token a few months ago. My, current, guilty pleasure is watching people discover them for the first time. Great reaction and analysis.
We are all here pretty much for the same reasons. Watching others react to this genius band gives us all the feeling of listening to the song for the first time…at least in my opinion and how I feel.
Don’t worry, the longer it’s been since you discovered them, the less “guilty” this pleasure is 🤣 I’m not even ashamed anymore, like yes I’ve been watching ST reactions for four hours straight, what are you gonna do about it? 😂
"No idea what's coming next" yep, that's Sleep Token. If "never let them know your next move" was a band it'd be them. So creative. Check out Bloodsport from the Room Below. Vessel delivers emotion like few do.
Fun fact: Vessel (the vocalist) and ii (the drummer) are the only ones who record in studio. Vessel does all vocals and plays all instruments except for the drums (that's all ii) while recording. The talent is otherworldly. Hope you continue to explore their work!

I legit thought there were two singers listening to this band the first time hearing The Summoning. Dude has a dark as hell chest voice then an amazingly falsetto, especially on Atlantic. I've been greatly expanding my range, and I still can't reach his highs on Atlantic.
He not only has a wide range, he has great control too. You start to notice how he transitions from chest voice to falsetto and also how tight his vibrato is, it's really not something you hear every other artist do😁
This is the breakdown we needed...and he has no idea the incredible skill he's discovered. He's heard one song...and it's obvious he will become supremely obsessed. Worship!
Definitely not. There's tracks I like more than others for a variety of reasons, and it really depends on my mood too, but I fully agree. Even songs that I thought I didn't like when I first discovered Sleep Token have grown on me over time
I'm not going to lie, one of my favorite things is to go through reactions of blind reactions to ST because it's like listening to them for the first time again. It's ...just lovely to see what things people pick out that jump out for them based on their expertise and how they approach the music. ST has a great range and I would be delighted to see that journey for you.
Blood Sport, Jaws, Say That You Will. His own covers that are on the deluxe version of Sundowning are great. If you aren't opposed to live videos, there's a lot of quality concert footage out there. Sleep Token live is a very different beast than the studio recordings (and that's for a reason).
@peterbarber People will (Quite rightly) suggest the newer tracks, but if you really want a showcase of the vocalist please listen to "Take Aim" from the album Sundowning. The entire song is built around his vocal range, especially his Falsetto. Its truly phenomenal and underappreciated by the fanbase at large. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
I simply cannot imagine now, what it would be like to listen to ST for the first time. I am jealous. Welcome down the rabbit hole of this phenomenally talented brilliant band. They are wee sweethearts as well. WORSHIP❤
Spot on with the critique of Vessels singing and technique! He was definitely classically trained. He plays the piano in the band as well. You have to check out Sleep Tokens other songs! You will not be disappointed. Here for it! Worship!
Vessel's vocal range is from Bb2 in Euclid up to F#5 in High Water, Take Aim or The Apparition. Not only is Vessel the singer, but also plays piano, guitar and partly bass in the recordings. The members III(bass) and IV(guitar) are so far just touring members. II is the drummer and also part of the recordings. Personally I wouldn't put Sleep Token into the rock genre. They don't think in genres at all, it's about the music in general and they use elements from different genres. I hope to see more videos about them from you. I'm also a singer trained classical at first and now I'm more into pop and rock music to build my repertoire. I love to hear the opinion of others about their music and production/singing/writing. I'd recommend some older stuff like Calcutta and then pick some songs feom each album (don't forget Jaws, the song is perfect, but not on an album!) Up to the new stuff. I'd love to hear your opinion how Vessel's voice changed from 2016 up to now.
“We haven’t heard him stretch those folds yet to go really high yet” 😂😂😂😂 just wait till you hear some of their other music man. Very good introduction to the band, can’t wait to see you review more from them.
Referencing the part when you talked about the drums having a trap high hat sound, the drummer has a really cool and interesting interview on Drumeo and he talks about some of the styles he's studied and uses. Electronic is a big influence of his. Great drummer, as well.
Just more info!! It’s actually only 2 guys!! The signer does everything but drums. And honestly I would recommend live videos as well because he adds more vocal variety live as well !!!
first time I heard this song, "beneath the stormy seas, above the mountain peaks" made me feel like i was literally soaring above the mountains and seas
Can't wait to see your reaction and analysis for this one!🤌🤌 I'd love to see you do Rain, my personal favourite, or Ascensionism, another masterpiece, aswell. But whatever you decide, I heavily suggest not listening to Euclid until having heard at least The Night Does Not Belong To God, Bloodsport, The Apparition and Granite. PS:(or just listen to all of their work, on or off YT, to then react and analyze Euclid👀👌)
This was awesome. Great to hear a musician breaking this wonderful song down. This song is a comfortable stroll for this singer, who is a 'classically' trained musician btw. Talented pianist too.
Subscribed for more Sleep Token reactions :D Glad to hear recognition for II's genius drumming in here as well. The drumming is what pulled me into their music after resisting for years.
My first sleep token song was the summoning. It even took me like 6 months to start listening to their other songs and I've been 100% obsessed with them for a good three years now. I can listen to them everyday and never get sick of it.
Your theory and production feedback is informed, and you deliver it in a way that doesn’t detract from the listener experience. It’s a rare relief from the “look how knowledgeable I am” approach that dominates this space. I didn’t plan to stick around for a 25 minute reaction, but that was well worth it. Thanks!
Thank you. Glad I found you. I’ve become addicted to people reacting to songs. I get to learn more about music and music theory, and I get the closest thing to hearing the song for the first time again. I think it’s the latter that keeps me looking for this kinda content. Subbed. Thanks dude.
Your facial expressions during this video, sold me on your reactions. The way you describe not only the music but also Vessel's voice as well, encouraged me to subscribe. Great reaction. You should absolutely check out their music in order. It tells a story and all of their songs have tributes to their previous songs as well. You won't regret. Loved this video, nicely done.
I think “The Summoning” is a good example of Vessel’s vocal range for the higher end of his range. I’d say “Ascensionism” probably for a bit more of his lows. Either way, definitely an amazing vocalist! Hope you enjoy ST as much as we do 💜
From a person like you who has the knowledge and skill and passion for music. Your reactions to sleep token are just going to be THAT much better. Please do more. You have earned yourself another subscriber!
The Gourmet Meals that is Sleep Token music. You can't just gobble it up. You have to smell and taste each piece slowly (as you have), finding all the hidden flavors and notes that Vessel and II have amalgamated together to take you through an emotional journey and experience. And just when you think you've got the dish pegged, try it again and I'm sure you'll find something new. Their music has changed me. Thanks for your reaction. I LOVE seeing people that know music liking and appreciating this band. * Chef's Kiss *
I’ve been a Sleep Token fan for a year and I have a musical background, and you still helped me hear new elements for the first time. Incredible review! Instant subscribe!
Just want to say I've watched a hundred reaction videos to this song, and your reaction and musical analysis was SO insightful. You hit on a LOT of aspects I was WAITING for someone to analyze/explain.
What you're saying about the piano mainly functioning as a percussive instrument is so, so interesting and true. It really got me thinking about how to implement it in a more... Clever manner in my own productions. Love it.
Keep in mind that Vessel (the singer) does all of it himself in the studio with the exception of the drums. He also writes most of everything, but II (the drummer) also helps write some things. The others are really only there for the tour cause he can't play all instruments plus sing all by himself live on stage 😂
Thank you for the excellent reaction, Peter! I always look forward to watching your reactions and hearing your insight into the vocal & production techniques. I'm so glad you have made it to Sleep Token! The entire catalogue is incredible, but I hope to one day hear your analysis of a handful of songs: Take Aim, Calcutta, Blood Sport, Rain, Atlantic, and Vore
Peter I would recommend listening/ going through the latest album in full to get a sense of the current lore and sound. And then dive into select tracks for analysis from the previous albums that have significant lore and unique sound elements. From the album This Place Will Become Your Tomb, I would select songs like; Atlantic, Hypnosis, The Love You Want, Fall for Me, and Descending. From Sundowning I would select; The night Does Not Belong to God, Sugar, Dark Signs, Blood Sport (Both Versions) and Gods
You are really going to enjoy your journey through sleep token. Every song has a different feel and a different emotion. Welcome to the rabbit hole. I highly suggest the summoning ascensionism and take me back to Eden you will not be disappointed
Omg, please do a full album reaction. There's so much story and lore to all their music. Also, I highly recommend Aurora's new album. It's incredible and she's such a once in a lifetime kind of artist.
what’s crazy is that i would say that this is probably one of the songs that is pretty mild in vessel’s vocal technique out of the album - it’s still freaking amazing obviously but this song is just the tip of the iceberg on what that man can do with his voice😭
Excellent analysis of one of my favorite sleep token songs. His voice is just so incredibly unique. Glad to put some terms to what I’ve felt from day 1. I loved your production commentary as well on the use of clashing tones, atmosphere, breath, space. It adds the drama listeners feel. Thank you for doing this! I really like your style. Subscribed! God, I love music!
I come from an art background, so i know chiaroscuro from contrasting light and shadow in at. I didn't know that it could also be applied to music and vocals! That's cool!
Peter you have a true gift for this. Rarely will i listen to a 26 min video on a 4 min song. But i listened to every word. Chokehold is just the tip. Vessel’s vocal range is all there for you to experience. ST’s 3 albums could occupy your next year. I know you are a fan of vocals, production, and genre. This band has it all. Also note that Vessel sings most, if not all, the backing vocals during recording. Then brings 3 background vocalists on tour to capture the magic. Can’t wait for your next reaction.
Sleep Token are the best band I have ever come across and the recent album is definitely my AOTY! You should go down the rabbit hole now. They’re genre bending and use elements of everything from rock, metal, RnB, trap, hip hop, gospel, and more. Even if you don’t like one song don’t write them off as every song is different and as you can see from this one they switch up completely through the songs, also don’t be thrown off by some of them being 7-8 minutes long either as it goes by far too quickly. You should start at the beginning and work your way through as they tell a story and have call backs to a lot of them. The band are anonymous, I and others know who they are but won’t reveal out of respect to the band and fans but the singer goes by the moniker Vessel, drummer, who is a beast is II, bassist III and guitarist IV. From London UK. As far as their discography goes they brought out two EPs called One and Two, then 2 singles called Jaws and The Way That You Were, then the three albums Sundowning, The Place Will Become Your Tomb, then TMBTE (Take Me Back To Eden). They’ve done five covers that I’m aware of. One being Hey Ya by OutKast, I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston, Is It Really You? By Loathe and When The Party’s Over by Billie Eilish, Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. His Vocal range I believe is B ♭2 to F#5 and he has a wonderful chest voice, head voice and scream. I have never hyper fixated on a band like I have with these! Loved the react and hopefully see many more. 🖤 The trilogy = Seduction. Destruction. Liberation.
I started watching you due to your epic reactions/analysis. Can't believe you're reacting to my favourite band! Id honestly watch you react to any sleep token song. Their music goes all over and they sound just as good live!

Also, I highly recommend Aurora's new album. It's incredible and she's such a once in a lifetime kind of artist.
I love seeing what Sleep Token does to people
what’s crazy is that i would say that this is probably one of the songs that is pretty mild in vessel’s vocal technique out of the album - it’s still freaking amazing obviously but this song is just the tip of the iceberg on what that man can do with his voice😭
Dude, do "Blood Sport live from The Room Below" if you want to hear Vessel giving it his all emotionally. It's incredible.
Love the content brother...Very insightful as well as entertaining. Keep the grind alive
Welcome to the table. Worship
Your low register makes me weak, we need more of you
Take Aim is so hauntingly gorgeous
"Not a texture I was expecting" welcome to sleep token.
Bruh… ready for your new obsession? Warms my heart❤
Super informative! I’ve heard this song so many times now, I love the details you are pointing out.
I've watched so many reactors go from the beginning! I'd watch! We always show up!
The trilogy = Seduction. Destruction. Liberation.
Telomeres and Jaws are beautiful songs. My personal favorite is The Apparition
The Summoning is a must listen from sleep token, but you cant go wrong with any of their songs to be honest : )
Great analysis! Sleep Token is amazing!!

Sleep token is an experience. Its so good.
I would love to see your thoughts on Sleep Token's "Bloodsport" The vocals are absolutely raw and so powerful.
Chokehold is probably my favorite song from Sleep Token. I would love to see more videos from you reacting to their music.
I started watching you due to your epic reactions/analysis.
Can't believe you're reacting to my favourite band! Id honestly watch you react to any sleep token song. Their music goes all over and they sound just as good live!
ow boy welcome to the trip. You never know what to expect with Sleep Token. Enjoy! and.... Worship!
Great R&A, of course. So much to learn!
I discovered Sleep Token accidentally in an article in Metal Hammer. I was blown away. I'm a worshipper. Perhaps, as a 55 yr old female I'm one of the oldest followers. 😂
I'm 63, their music is ageless ❤
He's generally described as either a baritone or a second tenor, but that's just where he's most comfortable. He has quite a wide vocal range.
