I really need to start a deep dive into this band. Everyone is talking about them much like "The Warning" (which is totally different) as it took me a while to get into them. But . . . as you are always asking us to turn you onto more bands. Another technical Death Metal bands it seems NO ONE knows about is *Desecravity* from Japan. They don't have a "Drumcam" video, but Videos with the band featured (and can clearly see the drummer and his gorgeous kit) and drummer "Yuichi Kudo". I have never seen a Tech-Death Metal drummer with the size of kit he has (maybe Kolias) and has plenty of different sized cymbals that he accents. He's pretty amazing; try tracks "Ominous Harbinger" (his double-bass at times sound like a machine gun from a WWI Biplane!) or "Impure Confrontation". Awhile back (the Opeth video) you also asked for some "Prog Metal" to get into, and I left you a list (from my other channel) and to look-up my themed playlist series called *Melodious Progulus* that features various bands with mostly clean/melodic vocals with excellent drummers (and some details about Opeth) in a new comment I just left. - Hope you find some new music to enjOy \m/.

Sleep Token is Vessel (frontman with every musical talent under the sun) and ii (drummer and writer of perfect drum parts that compliment and accentuate Vessel's vocals and music.) When they tour, they bring iii (bassist and rowdy character,) iv (guitarist and back up harsh vocals) and Espera (3 amazing back up singers.) They are a genre fluid, anonymous collective from the UK. They are "vessels" for an ancient diety named Sleep. Their songs are "offerings" or "tokens" to said diety. It's just good, fun marketing! Fans are "followers" and we "worship" and attend "rituals" when they play live. Most of us know their identities (very easy to find out if you have access to the internet) and support previous and side projects of the members. BUT most groups of the fandom ban publically discussed identities, so I wouldn't say their names out loud. Prepare for the unexpected when listening. Their songs are like snowflakes. No two are the same, and some combine several genres depending on the verse. Also, prepare for some emotional upheaval. Vessel is a vulnerable persona who pours his whole heart into his art. Also, prepare for a story arc if you start at the beginning of the discography, clever callbacks, easter eggs, and endless rabbit holes regarding lore and lyric interpretation. Now that I know some of the back story I almost feel compelled to. As far as Emotional upheaval, I had a transcendent experience at the end of the song when ii took that drum solo and then the whole song changed directions into a beautiful funk feel. I am slowly counting myself among the many "followers" and gearing up to "worship" at a "ritual." If this is the future of heavy music then the future looks bright!
yessss Man, that was absolutely wild! The playing felt so spontaneous, like it was all improvised. Honestly, that’s what really sold it for me. I was hooked on the groove, the song, the fills, and then came the drum solo into that funky ending. What a total blast of a track!

His name is II (two) and he is definitely a drummer's drummer. The other recording and founding member is "Vessel" who does vocals and everything else. There is a bassist (iii) and guitarist/some harsh vocals (iv) that play live, along with three backing vocalists known as Espera. Don't let the masks and lore fool you - they are the real deal, if a bit divisive in the metal community. Since they pull from many different genres, they get a lot of hate from purists for the pop and softer elements. They do sometimes lean into jazz (my favorite of their many flavors) especially in Aqua Regia. It's an understood rule we don't talk about their former projects or identities and honestly it's immaterial to what they're doing now. Thank u so much! I totally get what you're saying-it’s exactly what drew me in from the beginning. There's something so fresh and organic about it, almost like it’s flowing naturally (that’s definitely the jazz influence coming through). A lot of metal can feel mechanical and sterile at times, and while I do enjoy technical, perfect metal, this is on an entirely different level. There’s so much life in this music; you can feel the energy and freedom in every moment. Honestly, I couldn’t care less about their appearance or how they present themselves. It’s the playing that matters, and I’m so pumped to have found them because this kind of music really hits differently!
The drummer (II) was actually what got me into sleep token. I thought it was gimmicky until I saw the whole Drumeo episode with him. Now I’m a big fan. You should react to the entire hour long episode on Drumeo! It’s epic.
I'm not instrumentally inclined myself, I like cello music, and tribal fusion. And I'd been trying to break into metal, but felt like the drumming kept coming up short with anything I listened to. Vessel hooked me in with TNDNBTG, but I wasn't feeling his vocals for a while there. But iis drumming was exactly what I imagined in my head when I wanted metal to be more percussive and organically erratic "like tribal fusion" (Solace especially). And it kept me listening until I watched Bloodsport from TRB, and resonated with Vessels vocals and all the pieces fell into place. He's an absolute force of nature, tectonic plates shifting and mudslides.
I had no clue going into this that this guy was legitimately a great drummer, actually I was thinking I'll just get this reaction out of the way and get to some better stuff. Turns out I found an absolute diamond in the rough. Plzzz any fans of this guy tell me everything, I must know who this elusive sleep token is..... I will not rest until I know! METAL!!!!

Sleep Token is like gospel metal. Plenty of r&b, pop, jazz mixed with a metal edge. The entire Drumeo interview was amazing because it was the first on camera interview by any member of Sleep Token ever. He plays a lot of their songs and talks about them, including g a little bit about the drum solo during the break in The Summoning, which was added during live performances and isn’t part of the album recording. If you want a jazzy Sleep Token check out Aqua Regia. The video is just a visualizer so you can focus on the music.

8:40 well actually fun fact, it’s very not spontaneous, he actually plays it live every night the same way😁😁 And it’s not on the record! I hope they bring out a live album or EP with their next album whenever that’ll be, there are some other awesome additions to their music live like the solo, for example female backing vocalists (and of course their guitarist and bassist, who are only touring members - all the songs are written/played only by the vocalist and the drummer!).
That entire Drumeo playthrough is definitely worth checking out, especially since you're a drummer. It's just under an hour, but the guy is so talented you'd definitely come away with a greater appreciation for his abilities. He combines a bunch of different elements in his drumming, including metal, rock, jazz, pop, and gospel. Super interesting dude in the way he approaches each song. Also, the drummer's name is II (like the Roman Numeral) because he's one of the two founding members of the band, along with the singer who's name is Vessel (who also does all the guitars, keys, songwriting, and backing vocals on the albums). When they play live they have additional live musicians called III (bass) and IV (guitar), along with backup female vocalists called Espera. Even if you're not into bands with lore and all that, they're just all really good musicians who make great music and put on a fantastic live show.

He's by far my favourite drummer. I was fortunate to find these guys early as I'm around the London music scene. His writing is so thoughtful and skill wise he's off the charts.
Went to see sleep token live on their recent arena tour and my god II was fantastic!! The best part is he never plays the sets the same way its almost always improvised which is so freaking cool 🔥🔥 WORSHIP
That’s the best, being a jazz guy at heart I literally need improvising in my music. If it’s robotic I respect it but I’m so bored. Take some risks and I’m there all day. 2 was stretching on that solo section, mad respect for that. Fan for life, worship🙃

The singer (Vessel) and the drummer (II [pronounced Two]) are two of the 4 main members of Sleep Token(there are also female backup vocalists called The Espera), and the only two members with writing credits for the music. Sleep Token is a completely anonymous band from the UK. They are classified as metal, but they have a tendency to bend and blend multiple genres into most of their songs. They released a few EPs before their trilogy of albums. The trilogy starts with Sundowning, the second is This Place Will Become Your Tomb, and the trilogy is capped off with their magnum opus Take Me Back to Eden, which this song is a part of. Definitely give the whole discography a listen, and watch the entire Drumeo video of II's offering.

Sleep Token and II are so awesome. Another drummer I highly recommend if you’ve never heard is Blake Richardson. He also did a drumeo not too long ago and he is an absolute machine!
@yarpyarp85 any excuse to watch it again I will take. I also highly recommend reacting to a Matt Halpern, Periphery drum play through. Matt is the king of "if there is a cymbal, it must be moving". The track "Satellite" is probably the best place to start.
If it wasn't for II I probably wouldn't even listen to Sleep Token, let alone have it become one of my favorite bands. Hypnosis was the first song I heard and the drumming/vocals were what settled it for me. No question one of the freshest bands out there right now.

sleep token has been my #1 listen on apple music 2 years in a row. the intricacy, delicacy and ingenuity of their mixes is best enjoyed on some over ear studio style headphones. not sure what your speaker arrangement you have in that space but the experience is undeniable on some legit headphones

Mesmerizing watching II go ham on the drums. Drumeo and sleep token have many drum cams. Would love to watch your reactions to more. Aqua Regia doesn’t have a drum cam I believe but if you want to hear a jazz type modern track. 100% recommend and all the drum cam videos.

So stoked u held off on this because of the presentation of the band, but once u just close your eyes & take in the journey that is Sleep Token, it just hits different. There is so much re-listen value in the whole album/discography, both for the average listener, & the music nerd alike. Lyricism, song writing, production, musicality, mood, & structure alone is mind boggling. The musicianship that brings brings it all together is insane... The drummers name is II (2) & he is one of the few drummers in alt metal that toes the line of DnB, jazz, hip hop, metal, funk & anything else u can imagine. His fills & cymbal work r next level. Entire album is a work of pure art. Highly suggest listening to the 3/2 feel of their first track "The Night Does Not Belong to God. Always gets me going, and will make you appreciate Euclid a lot more once you listen to it :)
Oh man II is so smooth, so much feel and taste in his playing. They're so good at blending genre's it makes them a super accessible "metal" band for the average listener. And Vessel's vocal ability brings everything together so well. Its like easy listening metal and i love it!!! Every note has a purpose, his ghost notes im super jealous of. They all recently updated their masks which look amazing. And hes hand paint not gloves. Probably helps him keep his feel. That section with all the notes is his drum solo live so it changes all the time so fluid love it. They have earned their hype they've been a band for years and then they finally blew up well deserved. So now you definitely have to watch Dan Presland - And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope (Studio Play Through) Do it!!! Lol, please? 🙏 ❤
The rabbit hole is pretty deep with this one and you'll definitely be rewarded from jumping on in. I'd go right back to the start (the EPs) before running through the 3 albums in order. The drumming is unbelievable throughout.
The Drumeo video is an absolute master class. II has studied all kinds of drumming and brings so many influences together. With the state of celebrity and parasocial relationships, I don’t blame anyone for trying to be anonymous and letting the artistry talk for itself.
That whole Drumeo Vid is one of if not the ONLY well recorded LIVE performances by Sleep Token, even though it is only the one member. I still go back and listen to it specifically because its is INSANE and absolutely a pleasure to listen to every single time.

Don't judge a drummer by its mask is the new saying since II showed up :D They uploaded a couple of drum playtroughs, they are all amazing. I can say that during a live show he does the drum solo/improv in this song and its just as good as always. Such a consistent amazing drummer
I love that the original doesn't have the drum during the transition from metal to funk because it hits differently. Downside is I love his solo. I wish they had the option to both on Spotify.

Sleep Token is like gospel metal. Plenty of r&b, pop, jazz mixed with a metal edge. The entire Drumeo interview was amazing because it was the first on camera interview by any member of Sleep Token ever. He plays a lot of their songs and talks about them, including g a little bit about the drum solo during the break in The Summoning, which was added during live performances and isn’t part of the album recording. If you want a jazzy Sleep Token check out Aqua Regia. The video is just a visualizer so you can focus on the music.

8:40 well actually fun fact, it’s very not spontaneous, he actually plays it live every night the same way😁😁 And it’s not on the record! I hope they bring out a live album or EP with their next album whenever that’ll be, there are some other awesome additions to their music live like the solo, for example female backing vocalists (and of course their guitarist and bassist, who are only touring members - all the songs are written/played only by the vocalist and the drummer!).

That entire Drumeo playthrough is definitely worth checking out, especially since you're a drummer. It's just under an hour, but the guy is so talented you'd definitely come away with a greater appreciation for his abilities. He combines a bunch of different elements in his drumming, including metal, rock, jazz, pop, and gospel. Super interesting dude in the way he approaches each song. Also, the drummer's name is II (like the Roman Numeral) because he's one of the two founding members of the band, along with the singer who's name is Vessel (who also does all the guitars, keys, songwriting, and backing vocals on the albums). When they play live they have additional live musicians called III (bass) and IV (guitar), along with backup female vocalists called Espera. Even if you're not into bands with lore and all that, they're just all really good musicians who make great music and put on a fantastic live show.

You are 100% in for a real treat. These guys are the real deal. II and Vessel's approach to music is an island in an ocean of formulaic music creations.
He's by far my favourite drummer. I was fortunate to find these guys early as I'm around the London music scene. His writing is so thoughtful and skill wise he's off the charts.

Went to see sleep token live on their recent arena tour and my god II was fantastic!! The best part is he never plays the sets the same way its almost always improvised which is so freaking cool 🔥🔥 WORSHIP
That’s the best, being a jazz guy at heart I literally need improvising in my music. If it’s robotic I respect it but I’m so bored. Take some risks and I’m there all day. 2 was stretching on that solo section, mad respect for that. Fan for life, worship🙃

The singer (Vessel) and the drummer (II [pronounced Two]) are two of the 4 main members of Sleep Token(there are also female backup vocalists called The Espera), and the only two members with writing credits for the music. Sleep Token is a completely anonymous band from the UK. They are classified as metal, but they have a tendency to bend and blend multiple genres into most of their songs. They released a few EPs before their trilogy of albums. The trilogy starts with Sundowning, the second is This Place Will Become Your Tomb, and the trilogy is capped off with their magnum opus Take Me Back to Eden, which this song is a part of. Definitely give the whole discography a listen, and watch the entire Drumeo video of II's offering.

Sleep Token and II are so awesome. Another drummer I highly recommend if you’ve never heard is Blake Richardson. He also did a drumeo not too long ago and he is an absolute machine!

I also highly recommend reacting to a Matt Halpern, Periphery drum play through. Matt is the king of "if there is a cymbal, it must be moving". The track "Satellite" is probably the best place to start.

If it wasn't for II I probably wouldn't even listen to Sleep Token, let alone have it become one of my favorite bands. Hypnosis was the first song I heard and the drumming/vocals were what settled it for me. No question one of the freshest bands out there right now.

sleep token has been my #1 listen on apple music 2 years in a row. the intricacy, delicacy and ingenuity of their mixes is best enjoyed on some over ear studio style headphones. not sure what your speaker arrangement you have in that space but the experience is undeniable on some legit headphones

Mesmerizing watching II go ham on the drums. Drumeo and sleep token have many drum cams. Would love to watch your reactions to more. Aqua Regia doesn’t have a drum cam I believe but if you want to hear a jazz type modern track. 100% recommend and all the drum cam videos.

So stoked u held off on this because of the presentation of the band, but once u just close your eyes & take in the journey that is Sleep Token, it just hits different. There is so much re-listen value in the whole album/discography, both for the average listener, & the music nerd alike. Lyricism, song writing, production, musicality, mood, & structure alone is mind boggling. The musicianship that brings brings it all together is insane... The drummers name is II (2) & he is one of the few drummers in alt metal that toes the line of DnB, jazz, hip hop, metal, funk & anything else u can imagine. His fills & cymbal work r next level. As they say-he's so deep in the pocket he comes out covered in lint & spare cjange

Entire album is a work of pure art. Highly suggest listening to the 3/2 feel of their first track "The Night Does Not Belong to God. Always gets me going, and will make you appreciate Euclid a lot more once you listen to it :)
Oh man II is so smooth, so much feel and taste in his playing. They're so good at blending genre's it makes them a super accessible "metal" band for the average listener. And Vessel's vocal ability brings everything together so well. Its like easy listening metal and i love it!!! Every note has a purpose, his ghost notes im super jealous of.
They all recently updated their masks which look amazing. And hes hand paint not gloves. Probably helps him keep his feel.
That section with all the notes is his drum solo live so it changes all the time so fluid love it. They have earned their hype they've been a band for years and then they finally blew up well deserved.
So now you definitely have to watch Dan Presland - And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope (Studio Play Through)

The rabbit hole is pretty deep with this one and you'll definitely be rewarded from jumping on in. I'd go right back to the start (the EPs) before running through the 3 albums in order. The drumming is unbelievable throughout.

The Drumeo video is an absolute master class. II has studied all kinds of drumming and brings so many influences together. With the state of celebrity and parasocial relationships, I don’t blame anyone for trying to be anonymous and letting the artistry talk for itself.

I really enjoyed your reaction to both my favourite band and my favourite drummer. He goes by the moniker of II (Roman number 2). The singer goes by the moniker Vessel. Real identities, even when known, are not discussed by fans as the band themselves wish to remain anonymous. For recording purposes, the band consists of only Vessel (all vocals & all instruments), and II (all drums and pads). For live performances, they are joined by III (3) on bass and IV (4) on guitar, along with Espera a 3 piece female vocal group who supply the backing vocals and harmonies. I thought i was watching a year old video, i click on lots of sleep token reactions just to see people discover them but most are from when they blew up earlier in 2024. You have a great journey ahead. This is the only band i can play through every album back to back to back and not skip a song.
