This was so good. It's crazy how self-conscious a talented drummer like Greyson can get just knowing that there is an existing drum track he's trying to "live up to." At any rate, he killed it.
If you watch the one with the drummer from Megadeth, he's so self-conscious and is like nervous laughing at the end apologizing if it was bad. And it was goddamn amazing. Nice to know even extremely talented people can be nervous or self-conscious about their work and just power through

I'd actually never heard Sleep Token before this, and now I've had them on repeat for the past couple of days. "Take Me Back To Eden" has especially been great to listen to.
I don't know this tune at all, but I think making Greyson angry and off-balance really helped how he interpreted the drum part. The music calls for undisciplined edginess, which Greyson delivered in spades, although in the practice room I bet he's the most disciplined player alive. I love an emotional performance, and I certainly got one here!
There is something really cool about seeing somebody who’s immensely talented/skilled still being both nervous and proud when they get taken out of their comfort zone and absolutely crushing it.
Greyson might be the most versatile drummer I’ve seen in decades. He’s a throwback. Pick a style, pick a genre, he can play it. Insane talent, insane work ethic. This is what it looks like when a savant has an obsessive work ethic. It’s unbelievable to witness.
Yeah his version felt way faster. I reckon if he just like, took out half the highhats and a bunch of the double kicks he would have been really close!
Please… please… please… more Greyson Nekrutman on these. I honestly loved his take of that sleep token song. That was so bad ass, kid is so crisp he’s like fresh fucking laundry out of the dryer
The song is so intricately written and so unique I understand why he had a hard time adapting. Vessel and II compose for them as musicians. Intepreting a song by Sleep Token can be hard. The give out will be yours. He did really good as I said and gabe the song a whole new flavour.

Truly great recording, drumming, and video production. Truly a great series! Honestly would love a "how we do these" tour when its later in its lifespan
Greyson absolutely owned that song. I love that even when he was unsure and the choices were different than the original, he played it like HE was driving the song vs just another element in the mix. So freakin cool. The confidence to just make a decision and own it is what made it work.
This is not embarrassing at all, for someone that hasn’t listened to this band or this song, Grayson did an amazing job, he is for sure a talented musician!
You can tell he wasn't in his comfort zone and it was challenging, but I think the more impressive thing to take away is how II and Sleep Token as a band can make longer songs not sound boring or repetitive
Watch the video once more and focus solely on Greyson's hi-hats. It's like he speaks through them, there's a level of expression in his strikes. Mesmerizing as always!
Right?! I mostly knew him as a jazz drummer myself, but he now plays for Suicidal Tendencies of all bands! He's just a world class musician through and through.

It creates a resilience in you that allows you to cover mistakes and mishaps on the fly without freaking out. The plaid pants help as well. Great job brother. Very difficult.
haha was thing the same! the plaid pants makes him instant a 5% better drummer
cool story bro
“I don’t care what anyone says” Nobody would ever argue with that lol
So how does a jazz drumer become this wicked with the double bass? Thats INSANE. And the fact that he somehow landed on doing the drum & bass groove and even the same cymbal phrases. Wow.
Nice to know even extremely talented people can be nervous or self-conscious about their work and just power through
@@chacehorsman2615 This is true for many people who have mastered some craft or are specialists in their field. In my experience, these very people are much more humble in their field because they know the incredibly long way they had to go before.
I find this video series really impressive, such talented people, true masters of their art.
How could you even become a master if you're not self-conscious? You kinda need that so you know how you need to improve. Being too hard on yourself is a different matter, though.
@@Felms99 yeah its some sort of dunning-kruger effect where they're so good that they realize how much more they could be doing.

His eyes lighting up when he realizes that he did well is awesome
You don’t give this song to a drummer who can’t handle it. Dude is a fucking animal
Buddy killed it! His version was a ramped up energetic variation of the original and it sounded sick!
The hammering double bass in the bridge gave me goosebumps, very cool take on the song
I would love a refined, clean version of this. It's such a different feel to the original. It's fucking sick.
With ya homie domie !!!!
kind of a shame you couldn't buy a copy of this track. would be blasting it driving down the road.
definitely, the double bass he adds in sounds so good with the rest of the band and adds a whole bunch more energy to the track
@leonidas.original that section is so tasty. makes me wish I had the talent and resources to get a kit to play. so awesome sounding. his play on the think it is a high hat is really cool as well.
It’s too driving and in front of the meter. Obnoxious basically
WILD how Greyson does so much hi hat work in the verse having not heard the song, given that II is constantly using the hats in the verses. Insane
Maybe they're pulling a fast one, and Greyson actually is II

ruclips.net/video/tAXdMCTLboc/видео.html
It is a 12 episode docu show about the beginnings of metal and about the main genres.
That, as I just said elsewhere, goes back to the progressive elements of metal in the 90s. They looked back to a number of influences in the 70s from prog rock and jazz, or in the case of people like Igor from Sepultura, even Latin music.
Heck, I'd love to see Greyson's deep cuts dive into metal before he leaves ST and gets into a prog jazz/metal supergroup that is the modern take on Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Dude absolutley killed himself trying to get the parts down the way he thought they'd work. What a beast.

unless a drummer is insane (tool, animals as leaders), the drum parts will typically fall under a fairly predictable vocabulary

I sincerely hope II sees this and appreciates his creativity and chops to pull this off. Insane talent.
It’s so funny reading this knowing that II has an absolute blast drumming always looks like he’s having the time of his life even on the darker songs

Greyson absolutely owned that song. I love that even when he was unsure and the choices were different than the original, he played it like HE was driving the song vs just another element in the mix. So freakin cool. The confidence to just make a decision and own it is what made it work.
